Day 35, end of week five for Veg. I fed the plants yesterday evening when the lights came back on. They perked right up as expected.

Advanced Nutrients
Iguana Juice Grow @ 4 mL/L
Grandma Enggy's F-1 @ 2 mL/L
Ancient Earth @ 2 mL/L
pH 6.5, 2000 mL each

20230120 095301

Also sprayed them with a 25 mL/32 fl oz solution of Grow Safe to kill some powdery mildew I seen starting to grow.

Day 37 of Veg, identified five males this morning and removed them from the tent. They'll be going into the compost later on this afternoon. So now we're down to six females. Might end up putting one of the MAC plants in the Mother tent into the 4Ă—4 tent. I want to keep this plant I currently have in the 4Ă—4 with the MAC Stomper plants as the new Mother plant for the MAC strain. I like the growth pattern on it more than the other two plants, perfect cut clone.

The males that are getting culled are #4, #5, #6, #8, #9. I defoliated the females and did some LST. They'll be getting fed when the lights come back on later.

Male pre flowers, the small ball at the node is a pollen sac starting to form.

Day 38 of Veg, fed the plants last night. They're looking very healthy. First time feeding with Mikrobs and they seem to be responding well to it. Set up the AC Infinity self watering bases. Moved the M.A.C. plant into the Mother tent.

Azos @ 2 tsp/2 gal
Mikrobs @ 2 tsp/2 gal

pH @ 6.0 before adding the Azos and Mikrobs
pH @ 6.3 after, 2500 mL each

Increased PPFD to 600-700, temp closer to 83°F, leaf surface temps at 80°F

600-700 PPFD in veg?

How much CO2 you running?

No supplemented CO2 needed to be running that much light intensity in Veg. I'm not sure why, but I see a lot of people on this forum are afraid to push PPFD as well as nutes. I like to refer to this study done by a scientist who has done a ton of research on this stuff.

Light is the main source of energy for the plants. It's a main component of photosynthesis. More light allows more growth. To maximize growth, you have to push PPFD. Obviously to a certain extent. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

And to be clear, I am checking PPFD with a free app I downloaded on my phone. Not exactly sure how accurate that is and the HLG 350Rs do not have a gauge on the dimmer. They've been at 500-600 PPFD for a while now. No sign of any light burn at all.

If it works for you great!

I usually max out at 250 PPFD. Saves money on electricity and the plants explode in growth once they've thrown roots.

As far as nutes, I get it. I run 1300PPM during veg.

I know I'm pushing my plants more than a lot of other people. I'm always pushing the limit to get the best results possible. I know I'm proving the plants can definitely take the higher levels of PPFD. I don't track PPM or EC for my nutrient solutions, but I feed every watering. There's always plenty of nutes available in the soil and I try and keep the microbe populations up to break down those nutrients to make them plant available.

My last grow factoring in the cost of everything to grow (soil, nutes used, electricity) it was less than $25 an oz. If the damn electric company would stop raising the rates and I wasn't paying $0.28 kWh it would cost even less...

Day 39 of Veg, got a bit hotter in the tent last night then I would've liked, high of 94°F. RH is staying right around 50% pretty consistently with lights on and off. I checked leaf surface temps with my infrared laser temp gun and they ranged from 82-86°F. Looking a little droppy again, but still very green and healthy. With the added heat and light they're drinking more. The root systems have to be filling out most of the bags by now too which allows more water to be uptaken. Roots are shooting through the bottom of the bags. They'll be getting fed with nutes later when the lights are back on.

Day 46 of Veg, the plants are in near perfect conditions and they're just growing slow. No signs of any nutrient burn or light burn. Must just be a slow growing strain in Veg.

Day 48 of Veg, decided to feed them again last night, they were looking a bit dry on top. I think it's time to increase the volume of nutrient solution for each watering. They're drinking plenty of water, not much growth, but they're drinking. I topdressed the bags with 4 tbsp each of Coast of Maine Stonington Blend, it's a 5-2-4 slow release fertilizer. Hopefully that helps give them an N boost and that's a good all purpose fertilizer to be feeding the soil for the next month or so. The plan as of now is to flip the lights to 12/12 next Friday. I backed the lights off to 400-500 PPFD for now. The increased light did not seem to be beneficial.

I'm really hoping this strain produces some exceptional flowers because it is nothing special in the Veg cycle, but neither is the M.A.C. plant and that strain produces as high a quality flower of any strain out there right now. We consume the flowers, not the leaves. It ultimately doesn't matter too much how a strain performs in Veg if it's a real winner in Flower.
