Don’t want to be a nuisance as everyone has already been so much help, but if it’s not a bother, could you give me an idea of what I should do to top the plants? I’m brand new to this and I’m scared I’m going to hurt them lol
Have read that I can either top or Fim but not sure what I’ll get away with

When you top a plant the side branches/stems left will become the main shoots, you can't really do it wrong, you could cut the top inch off both plants. ( keeping it easy)

Topping your plants is fine, but don't top your plants unless you intend to give them a couple more weeks of veg. Topping plants and then putting it right into flower is an easy way to diminish your yield. If you choose to top, cut above the node about 1/4' to 1/2". This will help keep your stem from splitting.

Again, if you choose to top, give your plants a little extra veg time to replace the vegetation lost during the topping.

Oh yeah I plan to leave them in veg for at least another month or so. Plan on changing the space a little between now and flowering to accommodate for stretching. I tried to Fim the original glue and will be waiting to see what happens next. Glad to see you again Grampa, hope you are well.

I just went back and looked at your plant picture again. Your plants are actually clones. You can still top them but you won't get the traditional bushiness due to the alternating internodes. Topping works best on seedlings due to nodes growing out parallel to each other. So, when you cut just above the node, your plant replaces the 1 stem you cut with 2 new shoots. It doesn't work the same with clones.

I would consider using LST methods for this grow.

Glad to hear it, knowing my luck I’d end up fimming the fimming 😂

Cutting or clones make no difference
Sativa(staggered node spacing)vs indica(parallel node spacing)

You top a plant to control the canopy shape, often I have top plants a day before turning them over to flower.

The crop size will alway be down to the canopy shape and how full the canopy Is, not down to how you train your plants.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

All cannabis plants start with parallel nodes and then move to staggered node spacing as they become sexually mature. How you train your plants determines how well you fill out the canopy. Every cut you make means its going to take extra time to fill it. Also, topping a plant and immediately flipping to flower is almost always going to give you less yield on that plant than you otherwise would have. If the grower has many clones and is trying to run a sea of green, then yes, that would be a time I might top/prune and flip to flower all on the same day. However, when you do that the goal is a bit different. You're trying to fit single colas in space so a space that is 32 ft sq might actually have 32 clones in it ... 1 per sq ft. That would leverage yield on the canopy but its an awful lot of work to get there.

I guess we are different types of growers, I take clones a few days before I flower my plants off.
Cuttings taken about 2 weeks to root and then I keep the plants short and bushy for a good 6-7 weeks, slowly potting up, my canopy is very wide and bushy by the time I flower them off. If I top a plant a day before flowering, the two shoots often grow 4"-6", double short cola's are not to bad IMO. In general I like my canopy to be 18-24" anything thicker is a waste of time.

Yes, our grow styles do differ and many of my plants end up almost as wide as they are tall. I do this using lst and supercrop techniques.

The OP has only 2 plants. Rooted cuttings that have not had a chance to grow much. You, the experienced grower, would wait until you see what you want to see with plant growth and canopy spread. The new grower doesn't have the experience yet to know these things on their own. There's a big difference and I am sure that if you thought of it that way, your answers might be a bit different too. There are things that I do in my grows that I wouldn't recommend to a new grower. I tell @growsince79 this every once in a while... Only experienced growers can "break some of these rules" successfully. @growsince79 is one of the most experienced growers on this board and it's that experience that allows him the success he has with these methods. I see similarities between you two.

Guess your right, I started growing with 600w magnetic ballast over 20 years ago, loads of my friends used to grow, I was the one with the green thumb so I carryed on and they stopped, but they help me with the equipment, electric etc.
So my friends are 20 years older now and I am still growing perpetual, it's become part of my life now.

You should avoid heavy pruning or topping for at least 2 weeks before switching to flower. Just so the plant isn't focused on repairing damage only growing it's 1st buds.

I will give it a go but you have the stretch in flower(3 weeks) and 2 weeks in veg, that's 5 weeks, that would be hard to keep the canopy level (lst can only help).

LST and super-cropping Bud. If you really wanted to, you could use those 2 techniques to completely fill a net without topping at all. There's more than one technique to make this work.

I don't really use nets or supercrop but I do like to top and lst my plants.

supercrop works most the time but I have snapped the odd branch

When the canopy in the net, you can't move the pots or turn the plant, sometimes you need to.

I thought you were a scrogger the way you spoke of keeping your canopy even. It's not my favorite but it works. I'm more likely to grow out 4 different strains enough to get a couple rounds of 32 clones going and then flower the mothers. By the time I'm done with that I'm getting ready for the greenhouse run in the summer.

Quick update: looking good, tried to top/Fim the plants and looking good so far. Should I be running them like I am at 20 light 4 dark or should I run 18/6?

Won’t be watering for a little while until the soil dries up and haven’t added nutes at all since first day of posting.

Thanks again to all who are helping me along and giving me the much needed advice i need

I run indoor photos at 18-6. 20-4 is fine if that's what you want to do. The extra electrical consumption is one reason to consider running a different schedule.
