To be clear

Having your grow on the front page and posting a link two post up wasn't enough? You really had to post another link ? And who exactly was Pm you asking where your grow was? They can read the 2 links to your grow but not find it? Really not trying to be a dick but can you explain all this to me?Jack

Jack, You will be happy to know that I have been accused, tried and convicted of thread jacking... I'm sure you will notice that all of my post on your thread have been removed... I had responded to your questions in a earlier post but, it also was removed.... As farmers we are here to share and exchange information. Am I right? That is all I was trying to do. I have noticed that many members have posted links to their threads when commenting on your grow. Some of them once and others several times....The people that have it as their signature post it every time... I had posted my thread twice... The reason for doing so, as I stated before, was because of members PMing me asking for it. One twice (you know who you are).As that I am only a "junior farmer" I am unable to answer PM's sent to me or even send a PM for that matter. I'm sure you are aware that some people find it easier to ask questions then to read. To answer your question I'm guessing that this is one of those instances. As to who PM'd me, they can PM you in regards to that if they feel it is necessary. Hope this clears things up for You...

Look Ben, I, as well as others, am watching your grow and hope you post nearly the detail Jack has for the whole grow. Jack has already pulled his thread once because of inappropiate posters, I assume. I would guess that Jack has checked out your thread, could be wrong, and have not once seen him post there and steal any of your thunder. Look forward to following your thread and feel certain most of your successes will have a lot to do with the level of detail Jack has arduously posted here while managing such a large op and a FT job. He has gone way above and beyond the call of duty and deserves some respect from people posting here. I am constantly amazed by the moronic questions asked after all the effort he has put in and wonder how he tolerates it as well as he does. I am not a frequent poster nor a Jack ass-kisser, as you can see by join date and posts, but I will be super dissappointed if Jack doesn't share his next trial with the farm because of annoying posts. Look forward to learning from your grow, maybe you can tweek something you have learned from this thread. Now I apologize for thread jacking Jack.

Yes, It is quite obvious that you are not a "jack ass-kisser" as you put it. I don't know why you would even mention it..... If you would like to respond please do so on my thread....:kiss

Under Current 8-13 Gallon replacement lids...

The set that comes "stock" are very thin and flexible, at maybe 3/32" thick. Did you have any issues with them? I was looking to use a 10" net pot with my UC but didn't want to use/modify the original set, so I made some new lids out of 1/4" material I had at the shop. I cnc'd them on a vacuum fixture, etc... These won't be breaking, let me know if you could use any...

Nice lids....you must have gotten one of the systems before they introduced the HD 1/4" Lids that now come standard with the 13 gallon set ups.

WeedTodd, hit em up at CC HQ and I'm sure they could get you out the new ones if you ask.:call

BTW...hard to imagine the light weight lids breaking though, I'd like to see the plant that can snap 1/8" ABS.

Got pics of your set up?

Thumps up Jack!

Got a question related to your UV light.
Can you tell us what brand of UV light you use in the AC, maybe model, where you got it. I had some mold problems and would like to install a UV light in my air handler but got not far with google.

Thanks bro

Somegeek,

I assume his was with the Frostbox AC system from Greencoast but I've also found them made by Honeywell. If you search honeywell UV light you'll probably find something. I'd like to know the ratings on the one Jack is using as Greencoast doesn't provide any specs on them, don't know if they're bigger/smaller or what vs. the Honeywells.

I believe UC updated the lids and are now thicker. I got the new set with the system I got :)

Hi Jack. I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Simply amazing.
I'd like to ask about your future grow, and your plan to support your ladies.
You'd mentioned that you feel the tomato cages you used prevented the plants from spreading out and are looking at a different way of doing things. Have you figured anything out yet?

For my bio bucket grow, I don't have anything to tie things to. My girls are no where near the size of yours obviously, but I do have a few I've had to ghetto rig some support on.
Any advice in this area would be great, thanks!!

Caz
Whats up bro well the tomato cages are fine for medium size plants grown with over head lighting when growing with vertical lighting the plant gets so dense that the tomato cage restrics the plant from opening up and getting light penatration. I will be wrapping the out side of the bucket and plant in with wire mesh the squaers are 4" I really like the cages that Ben posted I might order some asap.JACK
Howzit Jack
Thanks for sharing this amazing grow!!
I learned quite a bit along the way.
Now that you're done with the harvest, did you notice any difference in the plants(yield/bud size/etc..) when you removed the fan leaves?
Good question I found that stripping the growth in the center of the plant increases the yield and the leaf plucking has to be done after week 4 with the Under Current system any time before just causes the plant to grow even more leafs,:muscle I would remove 15 lbs a day of leaf and not even make a dent so strip the middle folage and after half way point in bloom remove the leaves Hope this helps you. JACK:smiley_joint:
Are those reveged the stalk is fucking massive for the size of the plant??
If you read the first post and look at the pictures you will see these where all started from clone.I have never reveged a plant.JACK:icon_spin:
I have been wondering the same thing....thanks for asking that Mary. I have a diffferent question for ya Jack. The AC you went with....Excel Air? You killed it Man! Gonna be settin up for vertical lighting after my current run.

Ben I have much respect for your grow and the hard work that went in to building it If you need any help with you Uc system I will be the first one to help you out. Its real easy to get on here and start posting like crazy in every ones Grow. Just remember to let your grow speak for its self. I did not say anything when you did it the first time but the second time was un called for.:joint: I have asked to keep the post about this grow and ask questions that we can all learn from. The cages you posted look perfecet. Now put down the key board and go take some update pics for us all to see on your grow journal and I will stop by and check it out...JACK :smiley_joint:

Jack: I just finished my first UC-style grow. Did you notice dead roots/plant matter floating in each container? Did you experience strong pH swings in the last few weeks of flower (pH going down 1.0 in 12 hours)?

I was seeing extreme pH drops during my last 3 weeks of flower. I thought it was the dry koolbloom, but I believe the main culprit was all the dead organic material floating in each container that was causing the swings. I was running hygrozyme.

Thanks!

No Ph swings here. And the roots looked great the whole way through. I use Roots Excel and Cannazym, one of the reasons I love this system is how stable the PH is. It is a must to let the PH swing and not add any PH up or Down I ride mine at 5.0 to 6.3 its usally at 5.9 to 6.1 unless I'm doing add backs/nuting up. And Chiller temps at 63 to 66 is a must. Jack

pH swings are typically nutrient related having to do with un or less stable nutrient relationships.....decaying root matter can also drop pH as microbes off gas (shit) into the solution as they bioremediate the root mass. Adding sugars to water culture is another root die back culprit.

The presence of dead root matter is a symptom of some imbalance you've got in your solution......remember water culture offers very little to no buffer for mistakes made in the nutrient solution.

Most common causes for root die back are pH spikes during adjustments and spiking of EC during nutrient add backs......also allowing solution levels to drop too low which can expose roots....drying them out, causing die back....then rot after roots are resubmersed.

Roots should look stellar from veg to harvest....if not, then something is typically out of balance and can usually easily be corrected.....looking forward to seeing your next grow Noone88.

You're using Canna line I believe, which has pH buffers. I'm still using GH micro/bloom which doesn't have any buffers. Probably explains why my pH swings are a bit extreme.

UCMENOW:

I firmly believe that every grower will have some roots that will die, same with fan leaves dying off. I believe it's called root-turnover. That is why most nute programs include -zyme products. My nutrients don't have any pH buffers which explains the swings that i'm seeing. I'm not using any carbs in dwc.

The main issue with UC is that all the dead matter ends up floating to the water surface of the containers. If there's no way to actively filter it out, it ends up being food for all kinds of pests and diseases. At least with positive pressure and large drain ports, you can filter it out with a screen.

Starting a new cycle again. cch2o really needs 15+ gallon containers to grow trees and to maintain water flow. I had a 3# tree in another room in a 10" netcup and ripping out all the root mass filled almost 2 5gallon containers.

Lastly, if you guys are bored, your root mass might look nice and pearly, but tear it apart and you'll be surprised to see what you find in the center.

A couple things.... I do agree that for anything larger then 1# plant the 13 gallon buckets with the 3 " pvc will help elimante the clogging of the buckets and 2" pvc. I have to disagree in regards to the roots I tore every root apart and they had no signs of any dead roots. Every one told me I did not need to run Roots Excel through week 4 of flower but I always do, I also really like Cannazym and I double up the dose after week 6 through 8 this really helps. If the 13 gallons are not big enough for what you are doing it is real easy to get an even larger container and use every thing you already have from cch20. JACK

Jack the key is roots as long as you can. It just keeps shit healthy and as soon as you get ANY rot is a slowing it down game, not eliminating it..

BTW - Beautiful grow. I just got a UC 13 xxl 6 er and im just waiting for some plants to veg and i'll be posting my grow. Hopefully its as inspiring as yours!

Habitually innovating

Remind me Noone 88.....didn't you diy your UC with 27 gal tubs and only use 2" pvc? As far as I know the widest spacing the UC13's come in is 40" centers given the sizing of module in relation to plant size....which is about perfect for a 1.5-2.5 lb tree IMO

I don't think it's too far fetched to imagine that when CC releases its UC25's in 2012 they'll offer wider spacing....ooops, did I let that slip.

Well since the cat's out the bag I have heard from a reputable source that a 25 gal system is in the works for Spring 2011......

Also heard from the same guy they've got staggered pattern Evolutions coming out late this year...XOXOXOXO...

I bet Jack hits 3 per plant this run in the UC13's, that guys an animal, besides he just pulled 1.25-2 lbs out of 8 gallon modules....that's rediculous......JMO you da man.
