Julian Calendar
I was curious if any growers out there use this system to track their grows. The Julian calendar is basically a consecutive 365 day calendar, there are no months or weeks just consecutive days in a year.
In the commercial agricultural industry this system is widely used, especially in the swine industry where my background comes from while I worked in the animal reproductive physiology field. In commercial swine production animals are bred 365 days a year and keeping track of their respective due dates is a monumental challenge when you deal with 4,000 sows in one facility. There are 2 numerical systems out there for tracking one being PIC's 1000 day calendar but I found useing the Julian system's 365 day calendar much easier because it corresponds with the calendar months we use in our daily lives.
Here's an example from my garden: I will be cutting the next generation of clones for my system on or about the 30th of Decmber, 08. These girls will finish about 85 days later. In our normal calendar days that would be March 25th if I spent the last few mintues figuring it out correctly. With the Julian system the girls will harvest on day 83. Simple, no looking at the calendar and counting weeks. The only thing the grower has to do is know what day it is when they enter the grow room then base every decision from that numerical day.
I have spent way way way too much time in the past year figuring out when something is due to cut, clone transfer etc. It's the first of the year almost and my system is going Julian.
