1) All of your tubs and res will leak light in because they are white. I would cover them with reflectex (from home depot in the attic insulation section)

2) Is that all on carpet? I highly suggest getting a pond liner under all that because you will have spills.

3) what size ac are you running? The ballasts and chiller are going to give off a lot of heat.

Hey Cap, I am planning on covering those buckets for sure, and the Res, I don't not have space for a "Control Room" So I'm hoping my 14,000 Btu portable will do the trick here, with the chiller, and the 2-Burner. We put down carpet protector we criss-crossed the whole floor, it's nice. Yeah dealing with hydroponics it's impossible to keep h20 off the floor, who want's stinky mildew carpet, I sealed the seams between the walls, and the carpet protector to keep mold in between. I was planning on a Mini-Split but the guys at the shop said this Hydrofarm a/c will do the trick for 5 bare bulbs, and the generator and chiller.

It was a lot cheaper, and easier to set up so If it works i'll be real happy. i'll get the last few things tomorrow and do a test run.

Max-Juice,
Capulator is right on with his observations. 14k isn't going to be close to cutting it. you're going to need 30k for five lights, and that would be without the ballasts and chiller in the room. rule of thumb is 5k per lamp + extra for your gen, pumps, fans, etc.

Looks like it's going to be a killer set up man. I'm sure you will get all the issues worked out and growing some nice buds. This is kinda my dream set up, as 4 plants in my state is still a misdemeanor, too bad they don't say how big they can be!!

Can't wait to see what you can do with this. What strains are you planning on running?

Hey guys thanks, my plants have been in veg for about 2 weeks under a 1,000watt
week 1 600 ppm
week 2 700 ppm

Roots Excel
AB Grow
Sensi-Zyme
SuperThrive
Algen Extract

They looking good growing fast almost ready for 1 week veg in vert room

Has anybody tried purple passion, I picked up 6 clones, weird shaped leaves but they are really branchy, short internode spacing. I hope they able to produce big heavy buds, I heard it's pretty dank. Saw some pictures and it looks pretty good. I'll be getting into seeds and what not later just want to get some action going and see how things go.
If anybody has purple passion feel free to post pics of those ladies.

I'll be updating soon prob 1 week after flowering.

I hope botanicare doesen't get mad I altered their buckets :icon_animal26:

Were you able to test your room temps with all of the equipment running? You are also going to need a dehuey which will add heat.

The 14k portable will not be enough. It does not put out the same BTUs as a window mount of the same rating. Return that thing and get yoru mini split 24k. You will be so much happier. you dont want to deal with heat issues.

I have a 5 ton (60,000 BTU) that is barely keeping up with 9k in the summer, and I have my ballasts, res, adn chiller in another room, and I use tanks and no burner....

What is carpet protector? If it is "criss crossed" can water get between the seams if it spills on it? I'm not talking about a spill, I mean a flood.

I almost got it done I just to get some a few things and i'll be test running the room ill pick up a 2 ton if necessary. I want to see what this portable will do, if not i'll keep it for future control room cooling.

i'm not planning on a flood...lol I hope not, system doesen't leak though, I'll be in there 10 times a day checking on it.

Hey Cap do you know if you can run a mini-split condeser in a seperate room If it's venitilated really well? With 8" fans in and out?

Max-Juice,
even a 2 ton just isn't going to come close to cutting it. it looks like you've got the ballasts and the chiller in the same room. you'd better get your plan together quick for what you're going to do when you throw the switch and that room heats up to 120 degrees with that portable going.
do you have power in place? can you move the ballasts out of the room? if you should need 3T of a/c, how would you do it?

I totally agree with Mr. common sense right here.

14k btu for all that shit will never cut it in a sealed room. Why woudl you fix it after the plants are in. You wont be able to move around in there much...

oh well. at least you have the winter climate on your side.

Also, I still cant belive all that is on carpet, with some painters plastic laid down... No offense MJ, but is this your first rodeo? I can see you spent a lot of money on equipment, but you havent taken some of the most basic precautions. Is that an apartment? Is it on the first floor?

IF you did have a big spill... (and I really hope you dont)... would it put your operation in jeapordy from a security standpoint?

I moved the ballasts and chiler out there room, wasnt a good idea, chiller does produce a quite a bit of hit and those ballast.

Tho only reason I got this A/C was because 3 different guys at 2 different grow stores said that this would cool 5 1000's in a sealed room with a small burner.

I moved my light box out of the room and started to test some lights 2 of them started smoking from the inside, these are new Xtrasun Switchables.

The guy at the shop said that the transformers were bad and would replace them today, I got one light in the middle going and the plants are in the system already, no co2 yet and a/c. I got a heavy duty cable to run the Hydrofarm A/C. the 15 amp circuit in the room runs all the pumps, fans, chiller, and burner. I have a 30 amp circuit dedicated for the 5 lights and a Helios 12 8 light Controller.

I really do hope that the A/C cools the 5 lights. we'll see here really shortly, i do have the ability to put in a mini split and I have enough room to work around the plants they are just vegging in the mpbs right now.

Thanks for the advice, and now if there is a flood im screwed so don't want to think about it, after this grow it will be done on concrete so if I can get a way with it, i'll be happy. sometimes you can't do everything perfect the 1st time because of time, space, money, etc.

I'm going to make it work to the best of my ability.

I'll post some updates soon when I get these new ballasts turn all 5 lights on, the A/C, and the burner going, see where the temps are at.

Max-Juice, what everyone is saying about the heat issue, is a Big Deal. No sense putting choice genetics in there only to fry them. Leaks happen, don't hope they don't happen. Count on it at some point, and prepare for the worst. It's like in the military, the more you sweat & prepare in peace time, the less you'll bleed in war. Freedom is sweet, losing it, sucks. Wisdom is the application of knowledge. Lots of sound advice has been given, either run fewer lights or up the a/c action. Not harshing, just saying. Salesmen at hydro stores work on commision, thanks goodness good advice can be had for free on here. Peace.
