What makes this "humorous" is that I'm state-legal-licensed, and I'm under the possess limits, so I should be able to take control of this fast and easy. But when you rent month-to-month from a landlord who's an _____, the landlord can make life difficult really easily....

No shit man. I had a landlord from HELL, two of them actually. One woman who was completely batshit crazy and her husband who did nothing at all to stop her. They were actually spooks, posing and landlords back when I was being monitored actively because of my involvement in some anti-establishment activities. Worst thing they did was evict me and my gf a week after I had emergency gallbladder removal surgery. Having to move all your stuff recovering from surgery is just inhuman.

Long story short, I'm legal here, and my landlord was fully informed when I moved in that I would grow.
I gave a large deposit to keep everything cool.
Now, after all is dried/cured, he came over last night, and told me he wanted 1/2 of the total. ( !!!!)
It gets even worse, but I'll leave it at that for now.
__
I have to move now, and I have to protect what I have until then. $5k in eqpt. and plenty of medicine.
My landlord is a piece of trash. He's been waiting for this moment to f' me w/this situation.

Any suggestions on how to make a quick exit? Any non-violent options to deal w/my landlord?

Thanks for any feedback. Much appreciated on this great site. Lot of smart people on here.

Move all of your product. Contact the authorities--get a tape of this guy extorting you.

What you're doing is legal. What he's doing is a federal crime. (Yours technically is, too, though not as severe with the state of things--hence why I suggested you move everything).

Thanks very much, Squiggly, for the advice:) .
That is my biggest concern - (Federal - I'm a bad guy, but in the state - I'm perfectly legal).
I don't want to bring law enforcement, and the Dept. of Health into this. I feel like my name will be "highlighted." I don't need more problems. And they have more important issues than my minor grow and a white collar/type of crime landlord. Then again, they might be very interested.
I don't know the legality of taping someone without their permission in NM. I know it changes from state to state....
Stressful day.

In my opinion, yes, you do.

There comes a time in life where a man/woman must choose to do what is right.

What's being done to you isn't just illegal, it's wrong. That's what separates you from him.

What you're doing is illegal, but it is not wrong. History will vindicate folks like us--whereas folks like him will always be the scum of the earth. It will always be wrong what he's doing.

What you're doing might not even be illegal a decade from now--and it won't ever be wrong.

Get your gumption up--legalize your area, and give this fuck what is coming to him (a jail sentence). Are you medical?

If so, just think of this guy doing this to another patient--and think how LEO is REALLY going to view someone extorting someone for their LEGAL medicine.

I think that if this had happened to you 5 years ago, you'd be best to take a bat to the guys knees under the cover of night--but as it stands now you needs to stand up for what is right, not only for you but for this country--and for this movement.

If you don't, I don't blame you--and I don't think there's any shame in that, but I urge you to just go over this in your head. Who is the real asshole here? How would YOU view it if you were a law enforcement officer (keeping in mind that these are just other people like you and I).

If you keep your grow within legal limits, I don't know what's stopping you.

If it was me, all I can promise is this guy would remember the day he tried to fuck ME--one way or the other, broken knees or cuffs and bars--doesn't matter to me.

Realistically, I would've said the following as soon as he tried to extort me:

"Well, so long as we're saying criminal things openly to each other--if you ever open your mouth to suggest something like that again, I'll take your fucking life. If you report me to the police, someone else will take your life for me. Basically all roads lead to a dead you, but thanks for your offer!"

Thanks for the info, Squiggly.
I don't own a gun, and my landlord has at least one .45, because he showed it to me. I don't know the local police, and my landlord has relatives/family/friends (including L.E., everything from a-z) through this entire city from over 30 years.
I have a strong doubt that without extremely clear and obvious evidence, even if I could find a court which would take this (has this ever, ever been brought to court?), that things would go well for me.
***If it comes down to it, I'll contact the proper people, but for now - I'm moving, and quickly.

And with all due respect to you, I am not about threatening to kill someone.
If a person crosses that line, there will not be a warning.

Really feel for you on this Sky - its crap like this that give landlords such a bad image.

But now my question is: What are not sure about at this juncture? Ok, you need to just move out of there - a huge hassle for sure but what else is holding you back? You're not on a lease.
Are you going to lose the deposit? Is he going to let himself inside your rental when you are not home? Do you want some kind of payback for his shitty behavior? What is it?

I do agree with you that getting the cops or courts involved is a tiresome ordeal, probably not worth it.

This sucks. But, At least it wasn't one your "friends" who helped water that one time, when you were out of town at your cousins wedding. Bringing the "your crop would be dead if I didn't help" argument. It happens.... Greed.

With all due respect--you're 100% wrong on this.

Extortion is extortion is extortion--it doesn't matter what over.

This is like asking me if whether it makes a difference where a person was raped, it obviously doesn't matter where--they were raped.

It doesn't matter how in this situation either, you're being extorted.

Every court in the country would accept it, and every law enforcement officer in the country would abhor it (unless they are a total piece of shit).

Again, do what you do--no one knows what's best for you except you, but this shit is BLATANTLY illegal on the part of your landlord. It doesn't matter if you don't know the cops. Get to know them through telling them you're being extorted--I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help, they'll probably even call the FBI in.

Missing items already. I thought I had the only key to an area, but somehow it was accessed, and things were taken - including my $270 dehuey, 8-bulb T-5 (that was bulky), best timers, Tri-meter. None of the really bulky stuff was taken. He claims total ignorance.
I changed the lock since then - just until I can get it all out.
___So- for your question, nothing is holding me back. I'll have to break the lease, definitely lose the deposit (out of spite I imagine), he knows I have a surveillance camera in my place - long story - so now that he knows, it's not so effective. No payback required.
I'd like it if he just admitted his mistakes, and gave me some type of compensation for being such a bad landlord / person. That won't happen. But, I don't have a lot of anger at this point.
He's an ass, and people like him usually pay some price near the end. Not my job...

All true.

If that's your standpoint, I support you in that--good luck with working everything out.

I'd just fucking rob the guy myself, I'm an eye for an eye kind of dude.

Or I'd wait till I was moved out, and have someone go destroy the house.

That is a hilarious example:D. Many years ago, I had a "friend" look out for my garden for a week while I was away. All he had to do was empty the dehuey, add water to res., I made it simple enough for a 7 year old. So simple.
I came back and it was a disaster. I knew when I opened the door, the smell was terrible.
I don't think he ever went in the room even once. Disastrous. Who knows why. Seemed like an ok guy at the time.

Trust me. I have had some bad ideas on how to "fix" this. But, again, it's not my job.;)
