What word? And wrong about what exactly? I do think he is sincere when he says he won't use federal resources to go after individual users, but when has the federal government (as opposed to the state) ever made users a priority? A: Never. The DOJ also said last last month after the election that "Enforcement of the Controlled Substances Act remains unchanged." These two statements are completely compatible with each other. The DEA/feds will continue the drug war, and users will continue to not be a federal priority. IOW, business as usual.

If you're wondering if I can admit to being wrong, sure I can, but I insist that you be willing to so the same. "I was wrong" are some of the most powerful words that exist, they allow you to evolve past your errors.

I don't put a lot of stock in faith, so I doubt I would feel wrong about not having it. I mean really, you guys have a lot of nerve to expect us to start cheering for Obama after stuff like this.

No this just sounds like the same carefully parsing of words we heard 4 years ago, as lawyers and politicians famously do (depends on what the definition of is is). Is it within the realm of the possible that he is, in fact, a secret drug-war emancipator carefully biding his time, but what is there beyond blind faith to support that theory? No, skepticism is clearly the right call given the evidence and experience (fool me once ...).

I will sing his praises as soon as he makes clear, declarative statements opposing the prohibition policy like Carter & Clinton are currently doing.

Really just wondering if you can admit when you are wrong (and obviously you can, not that you did just that you are willing).....I personally am wrong on what seems like multiple times a day but I actually love it. Like you say admitting you are wrong is very powerful and cool in terms of personal growth. Do I blame you for your questioning? NO, not at all. I just hope that people, like yourself, understand that being wrong can be virtuous if one is willing to learn from the mistake. So often in terms of President Obama, and especially on this site, I have seen such negativity that people cannot even admit when they are apparently wrong. Glad to see you are not of such tribe! Clinton has to stand as one big ass hypocrite though, no? I mean he had 8 years to do something and all he did was say he did not inhale and go after the few clubs in Cali that existed then, right? Thanks for the reply, really do appreciate it. Hope you are smoking some dankity dank like I am tonight.......good evening fellow ganja heads!

I've asked this question a lot, but don't seem to get a totally clear response. Why, in the past four years of federal pressure on CA, has CO seen so little federal pressure comparatively?

I mentioned this in another thread but didn't gets any response. A buddy theorized (a little more hen stoner conjecture as he retains an MMJ atty for his business) that because CO wrote he laws into their state constitution (and ca did not) it added extra layers of complexity from a states rights perspective. I'd love to hear what others think.

Let me just offer a final word here.

What I'm attempting to be is a voice of reason. I don't really know whats going on in one direction or the other. It's my intention to suggest that neither do you guys.

Not that you're wrong, not that I'm right.

In fact I'm not trying to say anything is a certain way or not another way.

What I'm saying is that, within the scope of what's being discussed--you guys haven't made your case, and you are flinging some pretty serious insults and attacks on the back of your zero proof that you have.

When the dust settles, you guys might all be right--and I will be more than happy to admit you were always right, and jump on board with you in protest.

My mind is 100% open to the idea that you guys have gotten everything you've said here correct. I just don't think there's yet certainty in that, and so I'm still holding my cards.

By doing this I have probably the highest likelihood of ultimately being right--because I'm going to wait to make my judgment until the cards hit the table, not before.

Maybe I'm playing it safe and that's wrong, and I can agree that might be the case as well. If you guys end up being right, I will commend you for having been so from day one when the time comes.

I just don't think that time is yet here, and that is really my only argument.

I'm just wary of the GOP and pot policy more than anything--because I believe they have a proven track record of being against it. Not a guess, not cards waiting to hit the table--their cards are ALL OVER the table.

Hell, this is the group that originally made the shit illegal. It is their "family values" that keep it illegal now. Really they were the only justification EVER USED in the attempt to make it illegal in the first place, and they are the first line of defense against making it legal now.

To me there is no question in this, and so while Obama might not be the MJ hero we all wanted, I think he's significantly better than someone coming from a party who's precepts gave the ONLY justification for making this shit illegal in the first place.

While I think some of the things people SAY here are incorrect--I have no opinion as to whether or not their overall belief is correct or not.

I'm wary, I don't know if my belief is correct--but it IS my belief. I think it's a well-founded one.

Time will tell.
here bro, got a dab for you, peace out

Nice, I haven't hit the inverted stem 4 but I'm a lightweight in the oil rig industry, lol
I can't justify spending resources like some of those collectors do...one working daily driver for flowers and one for dabs seems to be all I need on active duty:D

But, I do see how someone can get the itch and keep buying these things...lol
I gave up collecting things as I hit puberty or so, realized collecting material items wasn't gonna do much for me once I was past the point of having what I needed to subsist daily:)

I'm not much of a hoarder/collector or money stacker. Anything beyond what I need to remain happy and fed and whatnot is a waste and someone else should be utilizing it. Call me a hippy I guess, lmao But if you ever saw me you'd prob never guess...lol

I think you're a dumbass and you think I'm one.

Ignored.

I'll make sure to un-ignore you to shove your face all the fuck up in your wrongness when the time comes for that, though. Hope you're still around when that happens :) Peace until then!

If you want to come in here as an Obummer's cheerleader and "protect" him from legitimate skepticism and criticism like Jay Carney, then what do you expect? You're throwing yourself in front of arrows by your own volition. Amazing. This whole thread is about whether this latest proclamation adds up to a hill of beans. Seems a lot people think it doesn't, and for good reason. If you don't like it you can go pound sand.

I don't think you're a dumbass, I think you're a blind ideologue and disingenuous cheerleader, lacking in several areas including critical thinking, analysis, logic and debate, and maturity, but try to make up for it by being a blowhard, apart from being consistently wrong. Also, I knew a few chemistry majors in college. None of them ever referred to themselves as "scientists". The fact that you have is more telling than anything I could say.

Most people don't bother reading all the crap you write much less want to respond to it, and that's why you get away with most your nonsense unchallenged; it easier to ignore than engage. I only do it cause I can only take so much. And I don't easily fall for logical fallacies and debate trickery. I wonder how much of your own BS you believe and with such lengthy and overdone responses though whether you're a toker or a tweaker.

"I'll make sure to un-ignore you to shove your face all the fuck up in your wrongness when the time comes for that, though." - Same guy who wanted to fucking laugh at all the growers who get sent to prison for weed if Romney was elected. Classy, Classic Squirmy. I've honestly held back quite a bit since you're a young kid with a lot of learning to do, but if your ego can't challenge/loss without resorting to childishness, maybe you should take a time out and do some reflecting. Ego and immaturity are a bad combination.

Department of "Justice".

Fines the money laundering organization (bank) for Mexican and Columbian cartels and prosecutes NO ONE, but sends an MMJ dispensary owner who gave site tours to state officials 80 yrs in prison. At least he'll rot in prison happy in the knowledge that at least he wasn't sent there by John McCain.

Yeah I experienced first hand the problem with mmj and Obamas policies: I owned a store in Montana and was forced to close after the change in laws and also because of the apparent federal intervention happening to people like Chris Williams and many, many others. The law in Montana was very grey, we did all we could to follow to the most strict interpretation of that law but wow this was ever so difficult. I lost a thriving business that was legitimately helping many people in need. My heart was broke because the ONLY reason I opened a store was because of the Ogden memo back in October of 09. I do understand the shitty world of politics though, and can excuse the actions of the last four years if Obama does come to bat for us......which by the way saying that he has bigger fish to fry has to be the most any sitting president has spoke in favor of mj legalization, that makes me stoked. I know the saying "fool me once" but there were so many other factors in Montana that contributed to our demise, I will just name a few: advertising, Jason Christ, signage, and most importantly the election of the tea bagging wackadoos into our local legislature that essentially served us on a silver platter to the feds.

I really, really must sit back and be excited about the change that I do see though. Even though the store is gone, I have owned a store that sold marijuana semi-legally!!!! Holy shit I never would of thought that was possible 10 years ago. And now, we are now legal to smoke herb in both WA and CO......that is awesome! Time will tell how the President handles this, but I for one am hopeful that we are seeing the last legs of prohibition falling around us.

Squigs, your posts are easily as long as mine, if not sometimes longer, so I'm going to forego quoting you and simply address some of the points as I recall reading them.

Obama plays word dances, he's a lawyer, remember? As such, what he actually says and what he means don't jive, pretty much ever. Do most Americans realize that? No, they don't. Why? Because of the Department of Education's fantastic job of ensuring top notch literacy in the USA.

So let's go back to Harborside's issues and compare them to what's happening to Sara Herrin and those associated with the collective.

Ms. Herrin, a former hospice nurse who holds a Master's in her area of expertise, went to the powers that be in Tuolomne County and asked for their help in properly setting up a collective so they could distribute medicine in an incredibly underserved foothill area. The sheriff's department, including the sheriff himself, and the district attorney's office, along with the planning commission and building departments all offered guidance. She set up the venture according to what they outlined* and thought she was in good standing with nothing to fear. Not long after, the district attorney, et alia, felt otherwise and they busted her and several others for selling for profit (which is not, by the by, specifically disallowed by state law, which is a common misperception).

The point is that the whole thing fell under the state's purview, she was a collective who believed she was operating according to state guidelines and the moment the state felt otherwise it went after her. So there was no need for federal intervention here.

Why not the same with Harborside? If we go by what the feds have said (are you disputing those facts?), which is that they will NOT go after those who are operating in accordance with state law, then upon what footing? Federal law is the footing, which then makes the previous statement a lie, plain and simple.

Obama is nothing better than Romney or any of the others, and I feel it's incredibly naive and myopic to believe otherwise. It is also naive and myopic to believe that the president has any real pull. All the president can really do is not sign legislation presented before him. The real power lies with the houses--Senate and Congress--and guess who puts those folks into power directly?

We need to make better choices, we all need to be involved, from the ground up. Go vote, then go witness the vote count. It's your RIGHT! And in my opinion, it's your obligation.

*I will give absolutely no specifics as this is an ongoing case.

Well, if you go back through and check out the majority of my political posts--this is exactly what they say. I mean exactly.

To most, pre-election--my cries of "Obama can't do/doesn't mean shit" were seen as "protecting him". I have cried from the rooftops on these forums that congress is the problem/solution.

That said, I still believe firmly that:

1. The president does exercise some influence. I never suggested it was far-reaching, but its non-zero.

2. The GOP is the anti-pot party. That doesn't mean that the democrats are the pro-pot party--that party does not currently exist, by and large because we haven't asked for it loudly enough in congressional elections. To my mind they are the "significantly less, but still ant-pot party."

3. While Obama isn't good, he's better than Romney would've been.

I think it's naive, myself, to discuss these things as though they are so black and white. They aren't (and certainly there are pro-pot conservatives, as an example).

I don't look at it as Obama is bad and Romney is bad. I think there are degrees of bad when it comes to things like this. When I vote, I shoot for the guy/gal that I think is going to make the least bad decisions (both quantity and quality). There is no person who will make all of the right ones. ESPECIALLY not so long as voters are making ALL of the wrong ones.

Couldn't agree with you more about education and the effect it has here.

I think everyone instantly wants to make me out as being some guy who says that Obama is good. I think that if he's good, he's only good because he's done less bad than someone else would've--not because he's doing so many great things.

End of the day--I really look at it from this viewpoint:

To me, legalization will never happen with the federal government in GOP control in any capacity. Never.

Could I be wrong? Sure. However, I don't think the GOP has given me any cause to believe that I might be--much the opposite, they've laid a clear framework for me to ultimately come to this belief.

They have tied the drug war in to morality, and the two have nothing to do with one another. I think to fall victim to this characterization is myopic, and it's been the unwavering position of the GOP for 60 fuckin' years (until, as noted, this election when they came under political pressure).

Note that both of them were bullshitting (Obama/Romney). Neither of them is going to leave your pot alone, but they both SAID they were. In America, that's progress. As you point out, that conceptualization of progress won't change until congress does.

As for now I'm happy with the baby steps, because it's the best we can do under our current system and with the people we have on the hill.

It's considerably better than I thought we'd have done by now--and I can't help but not be pissed off about that.

Bottom line, Obama could write an executive order to stop all medical compliant patients within their state to be immune from prosecution. He could do that, he has the power regardless of what congress and the idiots want to do. He has this power, check it yo!

Obama is a puppet with someones big hand up his ass. 20/20 dont mean shit. The fact is this movement is moving forward and politicians have to make adjustments. period! His lips flapping dont mean shit.
So, when he speaks and doesn't act, it's called b.s. WE have seen it before and most of us are betting we'll see it again.
Why would we expect anything less! ;)
