Well I'm always here just not able to post.

So I hope with no more Health problems with my wife we can have a thread start to finish. So here we go with the 2013 project

Just some photos as the garden is almost in . Only the Veg garden 3 plants. Have to show I grow something. These plants are in out veg garden by the house and are for fun. They get hand carted inside when it rains LOL. My RR garden will be planted this weekend. It gets low light and I want to control size so it will be the last planted. Mainly OG crosses

Will focus mainly on the Green House and WR. One thing I'm concerned about is the amount of wind we have had. For the month we wil have had gust above 10 mph every day. The plants just don't grow well when they are being blown around all day. I'm expecting slower growth but will know on Sunday. I measure the plants every week to compare to previous years and know how the plants are doing.

Fabric grow bags
65 gall full sun
30 gal green house

No I lost that great cut with C's last Hospital Stay. Friends helped in keeping the lab going but over looked her special chamber :( . I still have 2 seeds left but the 4 I started this year only 2 germinated and both are males. Same with the LSD and Chemdog #4 NL. So will be doing some interesting breeding this year.

The OG POW should be nice and dense this year :) Pineapple OG well it's very much like the OG mom. Just hope it finishes.

We also are looking forward to seeing you guys. Also anyone else interested in the party shoot me a PM. It's July 6th weekend and will be a lot of fun. Just camping spots left if interested.

Have 2 nice Sat Queen phenos this year and bot are the best in a while.

Finally got the last garden planted with the Larry OG in the old school garden. Not holding out for a lot of yield since it was kind of a dumping grounds for the last clones. Just can't toss them. The last ones always seem to have a long slow under watered death. The garden was just prepped with compost , worm castings, and some sea bird guano pellets 12 12 2.5 and chicken pellets 4 2 2. Good timing as it should start raining any minute,, for the next few days. Should give the roots time to get adjusted without the full stress of hot days.

50% of the irrigation is so hand water time has been greatly reduced. All that's left is a good soil builder , Carb load and nitrogen drench on Wednesday after the rain. Then the garden will be good to to go while we party :) BAron A gets in Friday and its food prep time. Should be another fun party with 3 bands and lots of family fun, and of course some wonderful joints floating around.

Thanks Sea

Chef Blaze is coming along along with the long hours we do. Very nice to have a member on board in the kitchen .Its was so nice to have the two of you up for the weekend and 170 of our friends for a party. Just wait what we put together for the harvest party :)

Now its back to to the garden. More photos after this LONG planned weekend of work. Hope those sat queen cuts work. I will be be taking next years cuts in a few weeks . Did loose most of one garden to deer, but that's why what you start with is not always what you end up with. time for plan C

It took a bit of time to get back to what makes all the work worthwhile. The parties took a bit m so far. Yesterday I was pollen collection day part II. Collected the Chemdog #4 nl and , LSD pollen. The males are reverting back to veg well. Might be ready to roll out some new seeds if any turn out well. Have some plans of where I want to go with the pollen so stay tuned.

So far I'm getting what I wanted out of the new crosses, lots of vigor. Select phenos are great for the end person but a pain for the grower as plant vigor is not as predictably as it is with seeds. But then people always want one particular pheno type.

First Photos in quote are from JUNE 16th. The below new photos are about a month later and doing well. The got their first soil fert drench today. They have been grown on the pellets ( 12 12 2.5 ) when they were planted. Drenched Growmore and Organic nutrients

So seeds actually grow more vigorously than clones outdoors? Damn, learn something new every day. Now I really want to try outdoor next year so I can try some seeds. My girls are dispensary clones haha.

Oh yeah, seeds always have much more vigor than clones, even with the same strain. They tend to yield more and have better resistance to stress as well.

[QUOTEHey NCGA, just wanted to stop by and say thanks for your advice on thinning the middle growth. I was a little cautious about it at first, but I am really starting to see the benefits in vigorous top growth. Thanks again, bud!][/QUOTE]

Can somebody explain this to me please?

Canopy control, Kings, and forcing (or helping) the plant to use its energy to our best results.

That was a quick response. In actuality it's WAY more complicated, Lets say new vigorous clones can out grow a root bound mother plant.

I'm also very envious of your clone and seed selection this year. Hell, i'd be happy to have proven genetics. I've learned a lot so far, but that means I've made a lot of mistakes along the way.

Well I look at how long I have been at this and the changing markets and taste. Having a winner is truly a moving target. I'm in wine country and that is where I get my knowledge and thinking from. Think local. I think all growers can benefit from local farmers who have a feel for the area and what works. Most will not know but Sauvignon Blanc has change a lot over the years from Way to Oak-ey to now being more crisp and New Zealand fruit flavor. As a breeder one needs to keep up with the consumer. I'm one of the only outdoor breeder around. Its nice my strains tend to work well indoors. But its outdoors for me. It takes me several years to find the right selection but keeping the phenos within a strain limited. An outdoor grower can not start 100 seeds and have say 50 females but only 2 good pheno types. For a strain to be acceptable to me there should be no more than 5 phenos and stand out every 200 seeds. I tend to do new breeding every 2 years, then trials for 2.

It boil down to a number of factors and I have no science to back this up. I have found when a plant has a lot of interior growth it is a place where bad things can hide and happen. For example

If you don't clean out those lower branches that hang down on the ground a number of things can happen

They hold moisture and create an environment that is perfect for rodents and mold and mildew
You can not see the stalks to determine if you have pest
1 Ants are a pre courser to bad things
2 Pill bugs who will strip the
3 Rodents who will gurdel your stalks and kill your plants. Rodents prefer covered forge areas and now open ones
4 Disease. whith a thick inner canopy of of leaves alive and dying it holds moisture and is a breading ground for mold and mildew to take hold.

5 THIS IS THE MAIN PRACTICAL PROVEN REASON.
So think back to harvest and all those small inner branches that have hash making material. Are you growing buds or making hash? This is the constant conflict between land owner and worker LOL. You can trim what I call AGDS (Aintgoing To Do S**T ) branches off now by yourself our pay workers in October. We are all optimist but, come on...... look at your optimistic branches at harvest and you will see what I mean. Right that on a YOUR HARVEST WALL, and let me know :)

The other side is more theory but, seams to work well with almost all fruits and vegetables. When a plants energy is focused on fewer areas the results will be better. Based on wine grape production you will thin some bunches to have a higher yield and sugar content. I believe fruit growers do the same. Tomato growers remove some sucker to get better yield

Now for a quick update. Photos since last update

Main things that have happened were getting the first layer of Hortinova up to support the plants in the event of the possible rain before harvest. I have tried many methods over the years but the Hortinova is best. They will be supplemented with bamboo on the main stalks.

I spent an hour with 5 others to put a Happy In Mendo plant back upright after a rain. He used steel T post and a plant in a 6 ft bed bent them over

The most important this was to preserve and prepare for next year. Oh how I hate this. I liked the old days when any one of 3 phenos would work. Now the market wants SPECIFIC phenos
