I started inside early spring and had poor success with the 12 seeds making it to fruition. Mostly because something bit the tops off of 9 of my plants I had under a growlight in basement. A mouse? I wasnt happy. The last 3 grew well but one died oddly, wont get into the details... the other two had no indications of becoming male, did not have the 2 sacs. As it grew, I noticed no buds, lots of flower sacs and tons... I mean TONS of bees. I had nothing else planted so I let them grow. They grew very tall, about 7 feet. I have been told I can use the leaves in tea or juice them which i will definitely do as I have a lot of joint pain. Can I harvest seeds from it and germinate them next year? Or did it need to pollinate a female and get seeds from that female? Sorry if this is a basic question... I appreciate any help anyone may offer. thank you in advance

Males don't make seeds, so you will have to collect the pollen from the male sacks that have released pollen. This can be collected in a large plastic bag with the male flowers placed inside. Don't close the bag, just let it catch the pollen as it falls. I mix the pollen with a little flour or cornstarch to keep it dry, as make it easier to use as you only need a tiny bit to make seeds via pollination. Simply take a Q-tip and roll it in the pollen that you have collected and brush it onto the female pistils. After about a month, you should have some viable seeds which will be a cross between the father (pollen provider) and the mother (the one that grows the seeds).

Oh man. Guess Im up the creek then. They definitely did not look like males when they were young. I have a friend that is a CBD grower and she said they looked like herms from the pic I took but Its not looking good since they have matured more. Beautiful plants tho and seriously hundreds of bees every day on them. Just gorgeous.

Since there aren't pictures, I can't say if they went herm or not. A ray of sunshine though... if they ARE females that went herm on you, any seeds will be feminized that you collect off of them. You will only get seeds if they are actually females, but they are pollinating themselves when they turn hermaphroditic. I never thought of bees when growing... what makes them so interested? On a side note... although just about everyone will turn their nose up, but when we got male plants in the 70s, we stripped off the leaves and flowers, soaking them in as strong of ethanol/booze that we could find. Grain alcohol was preferred but not always available. 100 proof vodka or 151 rum was a substitute. Soak everything for a few days in a;arge ceramic bowl and strain out the juice, letting it evaporate off. When everything is evaporated off, it would be collected and either smoked or mixed into brownies. It worked surprisingly well, but that was in the day when you couldn't easily find buds, unlike today when you can almost mail order.
