Is this the start of fox tailing?

The temps are anywhere from 76 to 79.... Maybe at times. That one is closer to the light at about 10 inches, but the light is only at 80%

Just wondering if it's bad and if there's anything else I can do.

Is this the start of fox tailing

Foxtailing isn't bad. More bud is more bud. I've also heard that foxtails can have more thc than their normal bud counterparts. The only down side is that foxtails continue to grow as the rest of the plant finishes off. So you almost always have to chop down when the rest of the plant is done, leaving the foxtails a bit premature. But nothing major, still smokes good. And foxtails dry real fast, so you can just cure them separately and smoke them while waiting for the rest of the bud to cure.

It does look like the start of foxtailing.
So far, my last grow has the best foxtails I've seen!

That's a nice chunky one.

Like most, I wanted them to be pretty, but I'll just tell myself it is. And that's a bonus skipping some time to smoke early.

I also noticed that one (meaning I've of the two plants I have) has calyxes so far, I thought there were seeds. Maybe hermied, but I don't think so. I pulled off a little larfy one near the bottom and I think I'm good

It's getting close. I hope I don't screw this up!

Yes, this is the beginnings of foxtailing. If you notice the way the tip of the bud is getting elongated? That is usually one of the signs that I use to determine the end of flowering for my Sativas. The picture shows the very beginnings, but if it progresses, like the picture a few posts after the initial one, it can grow multiple spikes of new growth that are cylindrical and don't fill out the same way as a normal bud. Like it was mentioned, not all foxtailing is bad. Some growers turn their nose up to them, but they smoke just as well although might not be quite as potent.

It's gotta be from the heat but I also read it could be genetics. The last few days have been unreal with hear and it's tough to control that while I'm at work. I guess I really don't mind that much. First time I've done this in decades but I was an idiot in my 20's and was careless with everything.

I'm looking forward to the next one a we get deep into fall and winter. I'm thinking my setup will be easier to control climate then.

Glookies are next!

Mine was genetic, under some LED lights White widow will foxtail. My tent never got over 26c so it wasn't heat.

Also if you were wondering like I was if you can just wrap a paper around one of those long foxtails and smoke it. No, you can't. They are too solid and do not let the smoke flow through the joint 🤣

I've seen a lot of grow pics where plants under LED have tops that are foxtailed but the rest of the plant is not. Not sure what's up with that but I suspect the light Intensity at the canopy is too intense and/or is giving off too much radiant heat.

According to the time, I'm on day 40, seemingly a while to go. It's tough getting shots of trichomes, but how does this look to you? My eyes aren't as good as they used to be but the all look clear to me.

As I mentioned before, I am not a fan of using the Trichomes as the sole indicator of ripeness, as some strains will continue growing new pistils and buds forever, or so it seems. I use a couple of things, the one being the beginning of foxtailing on some of my Sativa strains, along with the yellowing and dropping of the larger fan leaves. The fan leaf method only is reliable if you don't overfeed Nitrogen late in blooming. The overall appearance, heft of the buds, and mine seem to get a cool, greasy feeling when you touch them. The difference in THC/CBD ratio between perfectly timed harvesting VS a week or two late is minute. There is a lot more variation in the ratio between the individual plants than the difference fom going too long or the strain being grown, so don't fret too much about harvesting too late.
From what I am seeing of the bud shown, I would say that you are pretty close to being finished. A pic of the whole plant would help, but things look pretty good now. FWIW, Triacontanol, which is an ingredient in some plant mixtures, tends to cause foxtailing, along with bigger buds. I have really only seen foxtailing on Sativa heavy strains, but I guess it could happen to any of them.

This is Tuesday. They're crammed in there (2 of them). The tallest one is the top in that first pic on this thread. Not the best pic in the world.

Thanks for your help

Yep, well every single top of foxtailed. Both upper and lower. From my research, I've excluded nutrient problems or too much light and have concluded it was the heat we had here for a the week stretch. Dammit.

After learning more, it's the"good" kind, but still. I just wanted them to be perfect after my first run in decades. I think I got cocky, so I'll call it a lesson in humility.

Like I said, I'm looking forward to the fall/winter run where it will be much easier to control the climate.

My plan was to give most of it away to friends and family, and I will work the nice ones, but I think most everyone is getting edibles. :)

Ok, here's a good example from this morning. She smells great and is super sticky, but damn.

I started to taper the nutes. I'm guessing two weeks and she'll be ready. If anyone thinks I'm off on that, please let me know....

Thanks
