I'v'e been researching my ass off but I'm really stuck when it comes to comparing lights, even after reading about PPFD. One unit shows a PAR diagram at 18" within 5'x5' and the other's diagram is measured at 12" within 1 meter, on top of that I don't even get to know which of the 3 measuring type they used. Fuck capitalism.

Anyway, cocoforcannabis.com said that 700umol PPFD is optimal. I could be wrong but I think the dead center of the PAR diagram was 1320 on the SF-4000? If photosynthesis is inhibited beyond1000 PPFD what am I supposed to make of this? What does it take to figure out THE perfect grow light arrangement in a 4x4 and 5x5. With billions of people growing in exactly this measure of space, you'd think there would be a lot more easy to find information on what's currently the best?

Same....you want the biggest dimension light you can get to cover your grow area... ppfd's over 1000 require co2..to benefit from the extra power used..so I read.... example..I'm getting bar lights...they say 1800+ ppfd at 6"...then they show for 18" which is about 7-800 average..like 1000 in the middle area down to like 700 on the outside...I think that's about as close as even as your going to get...they listed that over a 4×4 area..light itself is 41" square...it's easy to get a veg light..it's harder to flower because we have to lower the light and lose coverage area,

For a 4x4 space I think the bar style lights are the best design out there right now. They range from relatively affordable Chinese clones like Nugg is talking about to commercial quality lights like Fluence. I can personally vouch for Fluence Spydr 2p's being great lights (see my grow diary in my sig), in general I think bar lights of some kind are the way to go for a 4x4 space if you can stomach the price ($800-$1500). My next choice would be lights similar to the ones you posted but then you run into the light spread issues you discussed.

Capitalism is why we have LED lights in the first place. POS carpetbaggers who prey on our ignorance is responsible for the lies, confusion, and junk lights

PAR is meaningless. The designation we are concerned with is umoles and a proper spectrum balance for veg and flower

Ideally, we want 2 lights; one for veg and one for flower, or one light that could be switched on to introduce the flower enhancing spectrums when needed.

Alas, most of us are on budgets, myself included, although I own both BML SPYDR 600 (Nick, but pre Fluence) and Amare Technology. Both are pricey. I see SF as a very good budget minded option. Instead of a 4000, I would get 2 @ 2000. The available space in the middle would allow adding a reptile light to use during flower

There are some excellent YouTube videos and a lot a bad ones

Migro has some great ones like this
