Hey everybody! I am a first time grower and I need a little advice. I bought five OG Kush seeds from growers choice they all germinated I put four in Hydro and one is outside. I use hydroponic research nutrients. I feel like they are doing really well, today marks week two of flowering. I vegged for 5 weeks. Pistols are starting to develop. I used low stress training for most of the veg cycle but have left them alone for a couple weeks now. In hindsight, I would’ve only started one or two plants in my 3 x 3 grow tent had I know they were going to get so big! I just did a full reservoir change this morning and they barely fit anymore and they are overlapping each other. My question is, should I be defoliating or taking clones at this time? I have done a lot of reading on the Internet from what I gather I should not until the end of Maybe week 3 of flower? I bumped the nutrients up to an EC of 1.85 and my pH is at 5.8. They are just so thick and concentrated that I feel it is inviting problems. Any advice I can get will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi welcome yes I would take cuttings from it now . Regards Od .
Thanks od! I appreciate the response, I can definitely do that. But, how much should I take? They are SO bushy and have grown a lot just since I started this thread, obviously I want a high of a yield as possible should I go to town and defoliant all the new growth as well? I’m tempted to move them into a closet but don’t want to mess up a good thing either..

As long as the diameter of the branch Stem is 4 to 5 mm just pick your best I only take lateral branches I don't use the tops .

Welcome to the Farm & Nicely Done! 🥂

To your specific defoliating question; I typically like to clean out the bottom 2/3 and place a fan underneath blowing up through the plants as well as one above blowing down. I have been told it is over-kill but i have never had PM (yet) or any other moisture related issues. I too suffer from overcrowding syndrome (check my past grows for a good laugh) so i feel your pain. I have been trying to use a scrog net for the last three grows and have failed miserably. The last was the closest where i got half of it right.

Everyone has a different way of doing things, the question i like to ask is "why are you doing that"? Then look to see if it applies to what i am trying to do.

Here on The Farm, you will find lots of ideas and experience based advice from the OGs' as well as some very smart & innovative new members, who can help you through whatever issues you are having. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Happy Growing 🍻🥂

Thanks for your response and advice to that particular question! I am definitely learning a lot from this first grow And have read as much as possible before asking for help. I’ve learned four plants is too many in this size space and my sore back has learned I have to get this setup higher off the ground lol! I have also found taking clones and keeping them alive is a difficult task but from what one drop has said I may have been taking them when they were too small. At this point I have my hands full and don’t think I’m going to get greedy and try to take any more clones especially since the flowering stage has already begun. I have more seeds coming anyways and will start fresh later. As far as the defoliating, that makes sense what you said and I think tomorrow I will start on that and see how it goes... I guess I’m most worried about those nice big fan leaves I have, I’ve read so many different responses on keeping or leaving them.

Lol,; i remember the feeling. Try starting at the very bottom and slowly work your way up. The hardest part is going to be cutting the lower branches. It actually hurts... 😢 Like taking a splinter out of your childs foot. It has to be done; just do it with lots of LOVE. 😍 Try trimming off the leaves and leaving it. Then when you get the nerve (a few minutes or a few days) go back and cut the branch itself (anything smaller than a pencil). You could also just cut off one lower branch at a time. Kind of like ripping the band-aid off. The trick is not to go crazy. If you go slow you will notice that if you remove the lower fan leaves and wait a few days, it fills in up top and you don't feel so bad. 😌

The goal is the keep your canopy only as deep as your lights will penetrate anything else uses up nutes and growing juju.

btw; if you do go crazy, don't worry; it will grow back. Just slowly. 😉

Good Luck & Happy Growing 🥂🍻

Yeah man hey, they look good, as ur defoliating usenurncuttings for clones,. If they're in week 2 flower u won't have long before u really prob shouldnt be doing too much cutting or cloning but if ur already hard pressed for room make sure I DNT REALLY get urself in over ur head and have a bunch of clones u DNT have aNY room for. But really looking good man keep that up ur first how will be a good one

Well, as you can see I wasn’t shy about the trimming! This only makes sense, they look sooo much better(and smaller😩) but I know it’s for the best. At least the crowding issue is much better also. Thanks again for the advice I really appreciate it! I will keep you updated on the outcome.🤞

Smart. I think you'll be happy you did that. Have you flipped yet? If not you really should.
This is my current grow at the time I flipped, and again mid flower. Gives you an idea of how much they're gonna grow in the first month of flower...

Damn! That’s a nice set up!! Yes, I flipped a week and a half ago I’m on week 2 flower

Right on. Seeing as you're in DWC I think the plants should recover quickly, but for future grows do your best to remove most of the shit a few days before flower. I'd be nervous pruning plants that hard in flower since it can shock them and slow them down a bit, which isnt something I want happening during the stretch. But again you'll probably be fine since hydro recovers a LOT faster.

You'll be fine. DWC recovers scary fast.
And you should be able to rig up a scrog net. I've seen people make the frames out of 1/2" PVC for tents before. You will absolutely need some form of support. If not a net.. something, otherwise those heavy hydro buds will be laying on the floor in a month. lol
