Not happy with my experiment off SOG. 2 Plants.. Outdoor is no place for manifolding I feel ..Prob a misspell :{
Idk .... mainlining/manifolding was an increadible season and yield for me. I do something different each yr to test many growing methods to see what yields the best and that method by far so far produced the largest amount of huge buds with less larf and some of my best yields for that size (averaging 4+ pounds a plant)
My avatar is a stalk from one I did...

The secret to achieving good yields (both indoor and out) is to allow yourself enough veg time. Much time is waisted in the beginning training them.
I sprouted my seeds in feb when I did it.

Yours looks good tho and healthy and that is what is important. Hope you have a great harvest.
No Choice here in Nor Cal. Oct near always ..That Jewelers loop never lies :}

Hi, this is my first season growing, I decided in April, because my daughter made me build her a vegetable garden, that I was going to do something I have long wanted to do and been interested in...growing weed. I started with some GG#4 Auto's, got them planted, and decided I wanted to try photoperiods too. I think I have an addiction to growing now.....

All my plants are outdoors, I may set up an indoor grow for winter, but I am liking the time outdoors taking care of these girls. All plants have received two compost tea waterings, diluted at 1/6 and Ph adj H2O (I was using GH Ph- but switched to citric acid a few weeks ago. Water has been filtered through a Hydrologic garden hose filter, but today I installed a Hydrogic Big Boy. Neem oil has been applied every few weeks as a foliar spray, but I am doing it weekly now as I have seen some leafhoppers lately.

All the plants that I germinated have been topped a couple of times, trying to decide if I should top the large branches again, but don't want to lose yield. At some point, there has to be a time where the yield stops increasing and starts decreasing because the colas are smaller, correct?

The clones have not been topped at all, as I couldn't figure out how topping a non-symetrical clone worked (as I said, I'm a new grower. Oh, and the GG Autos that started it all, I harvested the three of them about three weeks ago. got a total of 200G after they were dried.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and all the information I have received from the site. Happy Growing.

OG Kush, Germinated 05/01. 20 Gallon FFOF. Lost one of the main laterals (the partner to the one in the back corner) a few weeks ago when it fell off during a little wind squall. Tried taping it back on, but no luck.

Amnesia Haze. Germinated 05/01. 20G FFOF. tied the outside down to try to encourage growth in the middle.

Super Skunk. Germinated 05/08. 20G FFOF. I only germinated this seed, because I thought the other one wasn't going to make it.

Am I wasting my time trying to shape, top, train, Fim and make it so I only have a nice canopy of top colas on my outdoor? I see most people on here are going for height instead it seems. This was what I originally was going to do but after research and reading I decided screw the popcorn and LARFy bottom crap I'll go for colas instead. Is that a bad idea for outdoor or would you try the same given more free time?
I have thought about that also. I'm trying to minimize work at harvest time and figure I'll have plenty of top colas, and I can just make dry ice hash out of the lower stuff and not have to trim it.

Hey farmers, im a new ontario grower. This is my home made smart pot grow.I low stress trained 2 bag seeds to fill these 62L storage tote. I was able to maintain an even canopy with one plant but my other plant grew alot more while i was away and was a little harder to maintain since it is growing out of the pot.

Anything that slows the growth process down will inevitably lengthen the harvest time. That a fact. Topping will lengthen your harvest time AND reduce yield.

Trimming off the LAF why? Who cares you dont wanna smoke it make budder or something. The plant is not going to use more energy growing the under growth than she will making flowers. She will stop growing the undergrowth about 2 weeks before hard flower and then those lower leaves will turn yellow and fall off giving back stored energy and nutrients to the plant.

Google these if you dont believe me. Then figure out why plants do this.

Think about the science.

My plants are already loosing those lower leaves... I didn't have to do anything, just let the plant grow. Indoors yeah I trim that away for better air flow. Outside there's plenty of air flow and plenty of sunlight.

Fir yields - this is a fact bigger plants bigger roots = bigger shoots.

Its all about biomass. You're not going to have a huge plant with small flowers. Thats the genetics that cause that nothing to do about that cept choose your seeds wisely.

Sows ear aint no race horse.

Hmmm I tend to disagree with you on a few point. Taking off lower branches that wont produce is a long time used gardening method for most plants. The suckers do take up energy that could be used towards top colas and or fruit depending on what you are growing.. take two tomato plants and leave the suckers on one and take off the other. Big difference.

Outside airflow is important if you live where I do. I didnt used to worry about it in the beginning but I used to get bud rot pretty bad. I now prune and open her up...and not a problem anymore.

As far as topping or fimming vs not doing it.... they start budding when the daylight decreases. Topping or not doesnt effect that at all. Now do I encourage people to get all of their pruning and topping done a few weeks before flowering begins? Yes... but only because the plant should have time to heal before it starts budding.

To each their own tho...
