So far, I have 6 out of 6 jars that are about 75% colonized. This is a first time attempt at growing these after a very foolish experiment 30+ years ago. I DON'T recommend consuming 14 grams of tried shrooms. It was beyond anything I've experienced. I'm really on the fence about trying these again, but the experience of making it happen is cool as hell.
On a side note... The spores were supplied as a syringe filled with water and spores to te best of my knowing. How do I go about making a water suspension from a spore print... if it can be done? I've tried growing from spore prints without much success, although I was totally clueless on how to do it. This was before computers came onto the scene and decades before the internet.

Im pretty excited, gotta tell ya. I havent been so hooked by a hobby in a long time.

Tomorrow ill prep the grain and soak it overnight. Saturday, itll get loaded into jars and pressure canned. Sunday, if all goes well, I'll do the deed of dropping some fungus!
Good lord, man.
You said you have teenagers?
How the fuck do you fit it all in... I talked about starting up my projects what... 2 weeks ago? I still haven't done shit but type up some preliminary stuff while I'm killing time at work.

These two cats are a handful, I guess...

Im basically busy up to something from 6 am till 11pm everyday, with a 3 hr break from 5-8 for family time. But being self employed gives me a lot of creative freedoms.

Yeah.. heftier doses are best done over time. I worked my way up to a tea made with 30 grams, but that was after weeks of building tolerance tripping about twice a week, incrementally upping the dosage.
When you get up there, it's almost no different than DMT... with a different flavor.

You can make a spore syringe with a spore print pretty easily... it won't be clean at all but..

Boil a small pot of water > draw up a full syringe > shake it around a bit > expel in a sink > draw up another almost-full syringe > let it cool > put the spore print in a clean (preferably sterilized) jar > in a clean space (like a Still Air Box), shoot the syringe on the print and swish it around > draw up that solution.

To do it clean (as possible) is more involved and pretty much necessitates taking a spore print in a clean (as possible) way to begin with.
Spore prints and syringes are inherently dirty, and that's why you've seen a shift to making clean cultures on agar

Can you tell im excited! haha, oh man i can't wait to get this on. Picked up 4 shoeboxes and a sterilite gasket box for an SAB today. Ill likely fill all the shoeboxes so ill probably pick up 4 more once theyre ready for fruiting to "dub" the tubs so to speak.

I think ive got everything to get started now though. Alcohol, gloves, thin utility knife blades,... Pretty much set. Only thing left to pickup is some reptile coir and vermiculite from town next week.

Yussssss!

I'm gonna make some agar and inoculate/germinate spores this weekend!
I'll throw together a little tutorial to add to my other thread, too.

Channeling some of that productive, 'I-have-teenagers-and-am-self-employed' energy.

Nice, I look forward to checking it out!

I have to admit im feeling pretty well prepared. Compared to 2 weeks ago, i feel a lot more confident that ill be able to hopefully pull this off.

One more thing 🤣
What would you recommend for target temperatures for culturing the jars, bulking to coir, and fruiting stages? I have a temp controlled mini fridge i used for brewing, but it has a heater in it too so i can set it at whatever temp I want. Thinking about using that for culturing the jars in. Ill just need to drill a few holes in the wooden collar for fae.

70°F/22°C is perfect throughout.

Cubes are very tolerant, so anything that's comfortable for you is comfortable for them. They'll get a little slower in colder temps and contamination can catch a little easier in higher temps.

I'm usually around 68°F and it's great.

They also generate heat as they metabolize, usually around 2-5°F hotter than ambient temps.

Awesome. Well, im fukin pumped. To me there is nothing more enjoyable than the honeymoon phase of an exciting new hobby.

This video is what really hooked me a couple weeks back when I first started thinking about doing this. I have to admit its highly worth a watch just for the Alan Watts speech alone. He is so right, without having a skill, there can be no pleasure in life. And for me the pursuit of new skills is seriously what brings me the most pleasure in life. Growing mushrooms is no exception. In fact, the ability to cultivate something with such profound mind altering affects, that really gets me excited.

I love watching this guys videos.

Man... Now im tempted.. lol. Ive been eating a lot these last few weeks. Usually at night, wife and kids go to bed by 9 or 10, so ill drop around 9 and trip in the living room by the fireplace until 12 or 1, listening to tunes or whatever.

Maybe tonight is the night! Again! Lol..

Does regular lemon juice work as well as lemon extract?

It’s the essential oil if I remember correctly. Squeeze some of the lemon zest in and then float it. I need to find shrooms locally lol.

FWIW, and I m certainly NOT the fountain of information on growing these, but I initially had my jars at room temp... around 70-73/ I recently moved them to a location that was about 80 degrees and the growth rate doubled, if not more. In south Florida, the temps rarely go below 80 upto about 90 in the summer, when the shrooms are most prolific. I'm sure different strains have different temp preferences, but the Cubensis (sp?) seemed to like it warmer, which seems to be verified by the increased growth/colonization.
Someone earlier posted about high doses being similar to DMT. I've never tried DMT (though not for lack of trying over the years!) but perhaps it's just as well if the experience was the same. I've taken mega doses of the old, real acid but it was nothing compared to wherever it sent me. It was sheer panic and terror until I took a sip of water, which was like a bubble bursting and I lost all of the fear, but that was an hour or so later. I never experienced anything like that before or afterwards.

Yeah.. I made a pretty big batch and didn't make my normal ice cube cubes out of it, so I'm just trying not to be wasteful.
I usually just sit on the couch and my cats immediately swarm me and make a little purring feline blanket over me.. chill tunes in the background... maybe go out and look at stars.

I don't use the lemon oil for the extraction, it interacts with the neurotransmitters responsible for the anxiety/nausea and mitigates those symptoms to a large degree. It's great.

Just spores and mycelium for the most part.
Trying to plan out a course so I don't get into the mountain of petri dishes that I've had in the past that was a constant struggle to keep them from overgrowing.
Might even switch to glass dishes so to avoid that... but still have a good 200 polystyrene ones to go through.
