When you dim the bulb you burn off extra heat through a resistor. Not too many ways to do it really... High power potentiometer and resistive load. Kind of like two garden hoses on one spigget when you open the other hose the more you open it the less the water flows out the other side....

I have no reason to believe that AN can make a better ballast, than lighting companies who have specifically been doing this for decades.

The possible options are, rebranding an existing brand (and adding cartoon logo's), or if they actually did design something from the ground up, I'd give it 2-3 years before I would test/try it.

Agreed, the resistor burns off power, and creates heat. Heat or work must be produced, the energy cannot dissappear (conservation of energy. - Wiki "The only thing that can happen to energy in a closed system is that it can change form, for instance chemical energy can become kinetic energy.) Translation - It either produces heat or does work. It cannot dissappear.

But the lumateks do not get hotter when dimmed, I have 2, I know. So if there is not extra heat, then they are stepping down the power. I will look for the post where someone took a killawatt to a lumatek and shows that it decreases the amount of power drawn from the circut.

Think about it, the electronic ballasts already have a complex circut to use power inputs from 90 to over 240. Not much harder to put in a circut that after igniting simply lowers the output power. Im no electrical engineer and if im incorrect in my knowledge please correct me. :)

Got word I won't have my unit till April. We are getting 3 of them. They are for real. You'll see soon enough. As soon as I get my unit. I will post pictures for everyone to see and list all info that comes with the unit.

I have not seen anything bad about Galaxy Ballast. I was gonna pick up Lumatek's. But After reading this thread, I am sticking with my Galaxies. Not one problem with them. :cool0019:

But i would like to see how these ballasts work. BG post it up once you get em.

I personally dont think its any better then any of the other ballasts out. They are all made in China all the same parts, just minor changes, but different covers.

It looks like the lamp output receptacle is an IEC connector. It would make more sense to put a chassis mount IEC receptacle, instead of a little pig tail. Why not use the standard Hydrofarm receptacles, or offer digital ballasts with any of the three most commonly used lampcord receptacles.

I know the units will be coming in Sunsystem and Hydrofarm setups. I'm a sunsystem fan myself.
Take care,

I post a pic and no one says anything for a week, lol
Olyver it is a hydro farm plug just hard to see and the power plug is just like the old lumteks with a built in fuse, which i dont like after having one melt. I ended up with the same power plug on my new quantums but they do fit tighter.
Looks like they put a cheap plastic cover over it and a skull lol I hate when comapnys do shit like this thinking it will sell more product. Come on let the product speak for it self and keep the the logos simple. Who ever is in charge of maketing(probally mike) at AN should be fired. KISS This goes for there fert also. I have to read the back of the bottle to see what it is because the front has a cartoon on it.

I think, because someone already posted the picture from the rosebud magazine in post #46, maybe that's why no one has said anything about the picture.

I'm going to wait and see about passing judgement till I get my unit and see the difference. I can't understand how others might feel.

O lol dang i feel dumb.............didnt see the pic
Im sure it works great, most the probelms in digital ballasts have been figured out about the RF interfence and they will become more like magnetic ballasts where they all work/look the same. Mags should be gone in 5-10 years. lol

at the THC expose, Advanced had there hardware out. There ballasts look nothing like those pictured. They look like red lumatek's. I didn't really pay much attention to them. Donno if i saw a dimmer on them or not. They also had some huge LED arrays and some new kind of rapid rooter type products. Oh and also RED fans.. Nothing special if you ask me.
