The way I do mine: I veg out a mom first by LST-ing her as much as humanly possible to allow for a maximum number of cuts. Once she's beginning to get too big for my mother cabinet, I take another 2 or 3 clones from her, root them, and when I'm confident that the clones are in good shape, I'll move the big momma to the flowering room.

Then she'll turn into something like this:

I always replaced my mothers with clones from them................ I don't have space to have a mother room a veg room and a flower room so I veg my mothers out take cutting from them and put them in flower................... it seems more effective this way and it keeps me from having moms that are way to big

Not that this doesn't work for a certain amount of time, but every clone has less and less good DNA to copy from.

Taking a copy of a copy of a copy is going to lead to errors in the DNA code eventually. You'll probably notice less vigor from your plants along with some other things.

I have a mother of the OG KushxAfghan Kush and I plan on keeping her forever.
