Question about IBC Totes as irrigation reservoirs

There must be some other folks here using IBC totes as irrigation reservoirs. Since they allow for the passage of light after a while algae starts to grow and can clog the valve and timer. What is the best way around this? Cover it so as to not allow light in? Is there an amount of chlorine...

Has anyone heard of this cure and dry method?

I like mine to take 5-6 days to dry to the point where I cut the buds off the stem, than 2-3 days in paper bags, then in the closed bags in an ice chest until they're trimmed, then into glass. If the initial dry happens too quickly they get brittle and crumble. If they dry too slowly they will...

Post the titles of your favorite grow books! GO!

When I started outdoors there was no internet so I read a bunch of books. When I started indoors a few years ago I spent HUNDREDS of hours searching this forum, wading through lots of conflicting opinions and different ways to do things, did what made the most sense to me, and it WORKS!!!!! Many...

Removing 64 Cu. Ft. of soil from a basement?

Dude, you are way overestimating the weight involved. Soil mixes come in 1.5 cubic foot bags, 64 cubic feet is 43 bags. Depending on moisture content they should weigh 30-40 lbs. apiece. Worst case 43 bags @ 40 lbs. =1746 lbs. Two bags at a time is 22 trips, If you're a young guy that should...

Dovw season started @ half hour before Dawn Today in Cali

I don't think rippers have to do that much sneaking around or pretending to be hunters these days to find grows. In my travels in Mendocino, Humboldt, and Trinity counties the last couple of years in the Fall I have been amazed at the number of grows that are plainly visible from the paved...

Dovw season started @ half hour before Dawn Today in Cali

As a grower and dove hunter and one who has dealt with trespassers I would say that you can bring down a world of problems by being too heavy handed even if they were on your property. Those guys could well return with law enforcement to reclaim their shotguns. If your land is properly posted...

Truth in advertizing or plain BS

All I know about AN is that when I had a question about one of their products their customer service line just rang forever with no answer every time I called during their stated hours, and the e-mails I sent them were never answered.

The real magical additive, Ascophyllum Nodosum

I picked up a recycled 275 gallon IBC tote for an outdoor irrigation reservoir that was labeled ascophyllum nodosum plus 5% FE. It had about 6 inches of liquid left in the bottom that smelled just like fresh kelp from the ocean. It was imported from Ireland and used for turf fertilization. I...

Stem Support for Newly Cracked Beans... Ideas?

I start under flourescents and keep the light an inch or so above the seedlings. That, some air movement, and some space to add a little soil and you shouldn't have any problem with the stems being not sturdy.

    What causes crowning/foxtailing?

I don't think this was nutrient related. I'm not a big fan of lots of nutes. The only added nutes these plants saw were two light feedings of Age Old Bloom a week apart at the beginning of flowering. Also, the clones and from seed plants received the same treatment, and only the tall, from...

    What causes crowning/foxtailing?

Fellow Farmers, In 30 years of outdoor work I've never encountered plants foxtailing or crowning. In my first indoor run I had about 15 clones of 4 varieties and about the same number of plants from seed of 3 varieties. I switched lights (4 x 1000 HPS) when they were all about 2 feet tall. 5...

How many plants would you run?

Your run sounds really similar to the one I just finished....4K HPS, similar dimensions, similar soil, though I used less nutes......I did 31 in 5 gallon smart pots. It was too many, they filled the space and working in there was a total pain. I had 8 strains, half clones and half from seeds...

    Mosaic virus or cochilcine treatment.

Colchicine was used in the late '70s to induce a chromosomal mutation making plants grown from treated seeds have diploid chromosomes, which was thought to increase potency. I grew some plants from seeds a generation or so after a treatment in 1980. They did not have variegated leaves, but had...

    Pollen From Male????

Paulycali, I few things I've done that might be helpful.... I usually cut away most of the male, leaving just the top or a single branch, less to keep track of that way. Before he blows I take him to a closet with flourescents so he is isolated, or I have sometimes cut the branch and put it...

    Trimming - buzz cut?

I've always trimmed down to resin. If you can see the stem of the leaf, take it off. If you have to dig for it, and the leaf is covered with trichomes, maybe just take the tip off the leaf. But then I've always preferred my women the way nature intended, and can't relate to that baldness...
