Strains of Yesteryear by DJ Short

I've wondered the same thing myself. DJ was getting stuff from the BOEL and others in Oregon in the 70s and while I know they're famous for the Maui Wowie, Blue Orca, Oaxacan, etc. I'm curious what they might have imported from African countries. It also makes me think if a kid in Oregon was...

Hello! First time grower and having some serious problems!

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I've seen that (holes and the leaf looking like it's eating itself) in my current grow and plenty of grows before. This is with everything from modern polyhybrids to heirloom sativas. I only see it in Veg usually and it's always after repotting...

    1990s Mexican Brick Weed Genetics

Interesting, thanks man! That makes sense that it would be Oaxacan from the weak but happy buzz and structure of the smashed buds. I go to Guadalajara pretty regularly so looks like a side trip is in order! 🙌🙌🙌 Thanks again and good looking out

    1990s Mexican Brick Weed Genetics

Nice, the A5/OTH they offer is a miracle in a world of endless cookie crosses. I've tried running their hazes a few times and have never succeeded indoors, but someday I still plan on using males to beef up potency on other strains. You'll appreciate Malawi for sure. Zamaldelica was a hit when...

    1990s Mexican Brick Weed Genetics

Oh yes, Ace is my favorite bank! Unfortunately their one blind spot seems to be Mexican strains but I've run a lot of their gear and they're one of a kind. Zamaldelica, Orient Express, Panama and Malawi were all amazing but I got a pheno of Nepalese Jam that was a heavy Nepalese, rose...

    1990s Mexican Brick Weed Genetics

Awesome, thanks! I'm heading back to SD in a few weeks so I'll ask around!

    1990s Mexican Brick Weed Genetics

Hey farm, I know there have been discussions in the past about our old friend schwag, boof, brick, vato, etc. and even reports of people growing out the plants. What I'm ultimately trying to do is figure out what the genetics were and what chance there is of growing something similar. The...

    Grow taking longer than expected

This should be at the top of every grow forum. Plants are living things, you can't just pump them full of crap and expect them to make magic. It's like pumping a baby full of steroids and expecting it to grow up like Arnold. Instead you get a mutated monster who dies from a million health...

    Mango x Bubble gum

Sounds like Dr. Underground gear. He has a "Melon Gum" I ran as well as a Brooklyn Mango (ERSBxSD?) and they were both amazing plants but fem only. Enjoy!

    Homemade Nepalese Temple Ball Hash

Actually the Nepalese would harvest the entire plant and store it in barns for the remainder of the year, then in spring of the next year, they would roll the now decarbed resin into temple balls and eat them. Fun facts!

Is there any original strains left

Good looking out, I'd still just suggest him for getting ahead with landrace. You can still hit Ace, Norstar, Bodhi and Seeds of Africa if you want to go with the originals and spend some time breeding!

    Landrace? Where You At?

I totally feel where you're coming from. However, as I've become a connoseuir of sorts as regards landrace, my opinion is that a solid hybrid is generally in order. For example, Oaxacan just feels like you have a blindfold on, so you feel like you need something else to round it out. Thai, which...

    Homebrew420s' Seed Creation and Selection

Yeah, he did the same to me! Came to san Diego and we had a few local ales and then next thing you know he's forcing me to take a tub of the most beautiful bud and seeds. Definitely watch out. I rocked his Chocolate Thai x Vietnam and it was AMAZING. Currently have a seedling of the Jamaica x...

Any feedback on Barneys Acapulco Gold?

Yeah, I'm a huge fan! I love Nepalese (I didn't recommend Nepalese Jam to the OP because the Jamaica 85 phenos went to around 7-13 feet for me) and this plant grows like a hybrid in stature, but has the typical Sativa trait of sitting there in seeming stasis for like 4 weeks and then BOOM you...

Any feedback on Barneys Acapulco Gold?

While there are gnarled sativas on paper, Acapulco is one of the toughest ive found to dial in. Has that old, weak genetics feel to it. I'd recommend Ace seeds lineup as your starting point and accept that you may need to veg out, cut clones and then columnar scrog the clones. My candidates...

    Ethics In Breeding

The most important rule I believe any breeder, closet or ranch, should follow is simply: Be honest about what you know of the seed. If it's an untested homemade cross of two bagseeds, that's fine as long as I know that's what's going in my garden. No one gets to take credit for nature, sorry egos.

    Sexy Mexy?

Well now, what have we here?! The ideal herb for me is that happy, skunky, menthol, spicy mexican! Maybe Guerrero is the state I should be focusing on? I'll have to pm you after this season and different projects in it, when I have some macho frijoles for ya! ;) Much respect and love for the...

    Sexy Mexy?

So of all the seeds I ended up with one plant that made it, a male :) Luckily I had an amazing Maui Haze heavy Afgooey, so this season will be a good one hopefully. Getting hit with some Chocolate Thai X Vietnam goodness from the Raddest of dudes @homebrew420 as well as some Old timers Haze x...
