“How can i tell the difference between a male and a female plant and when do I separate?”

Hi fellow stoners & gardeners,
Do you know how to tell the difference between a male and a female cannabis plant and what should you do once you realize that there are males and females among your group?!

I am making this thread to show beginners how to tell the difference as well as express the importance of why you should learn the difference and then seperate the plants after they show their sex.

Based on my factual research and also personal experience i would say that fundamentally as soon as you see signs of a male you should remove from your grow room or dig up if the plant is outdoors however I doubt you already have your plants in ground unless you sowed them from seed in the ground.

The male plants will produce pollen sacs which are different from the females which produce pistils that usually point up like a single hair next to each node usually beginning with the development at the top working down each node as new growth occurs.

If you are confused further on what a pollen sac looks like & what a pistil looks like I will provide clear pictures at very young stages so you can easily identify and notice the difference.

The importance of removing the males is so that the pollen is not released onto the female plants which to most people is a worst case scenario because when all of your flowers bud they will have many many seeds no matter how potent or fresh your bud is.
The only time you would want to do this is if you are cross breeding or simply just producing more seeds of the same strain for next grow if you're not into cutting clones or just want seeds to add to your seed bank.

This is a short summary of the difference between males and females, I understand I didn’t cover lots under this topic however I would love to hear the input from others experts and their opinions on differences between males and females and also pros and cons to separating and also leaving with the rest of the females.

Sorry dude , couldn't help myself .......
Which pic is the " female" curious
In my opinion leaving the males with the females will produce a harmonic balance that is necessary in nature ...
Otherwise it could cause gender depression

But do you want seeds in your bud you’re gonna smoke? Usually that is undesirable and make are almost always removed from the equation unless you need more seeds or are doing a cross-breed

hit it with 12 hr light 12 hr dark ! flower it
What's the point of growing a seed 12/12 light schedule especially an indica that will flower immediately , can you tell me why you would do that , I think if you want to show examples of males and females , to educate new growers , then this photo might be very confusing
You couldn't have pulled a better example off the web . ? Or do you grow seeds straight into 12/12 for a particular reason ,
I'd love to learn something new ...

Hey thc , can you find viable pollen in that tiny male and use it to make seeds ?
yep i think you could...but its hard to say if thats a desirable male plant depending on the genetics It came from i wouldent say it looks “strong” like some males iv seen.

If you wana grow proper sensi ... pop 10 seeds half will be female ( hopfully) Kill the males . pick the top 2 looking fems and veg them till you can take as many clones as you need then veg those clones for 6 weeks , then flower 12/12 6-10 Weeks strain depending

The veg is 16- 24 hrs of daylight .

If you put any seed under 12/12 my undertsnading is that the stress from that lighting schedule will almost surly make a male.

There is much unknown about how seeds decide to be male or female , stress, lighting , feeding , chemical compounds ( some say ) all play a role i believe.

only time you want 12/12 is when you want to flower your plant, usually around 6 weeks of veg ( grower preference)

Don't even look for females. As soon as you see nuts toss him in the yard. Anything without balls is good enough to take home.

PS no one gets to decide their gender, not event dope, it's predetermined by God you fucking liberals
I am not speaking for humans however you most definitely can manipulate the sex and hormones of a plant to increase your chances of a female. They make a spray to increase your chance of a unpollenated female or also called sinsemilla
