I am an homeowner/hobbyist starting my 1st outdoor grow in SoCal. Looking forward to using this forum as my go to for info. I just transplanted a OG Kush clone that I purchased from a retail dispensary. This is day 3 in a #7 nursery pot with FF Happy Frog. Watered slowly to light runoff this morning and placed in indirect sunlight. Expecting 90+ degrees today...fingers crossed!

Welcome to the Farm. Good idea to keep it shaded for now and do a gradual exposure to full sun. Dang 90f already friggin so. cal. i've got 2 brothers down there Covina an Pasadena. My sister an i are up here in Oregon a couple hrs from the boarder. Been hot here also for us it's early 75-80+f. That's hot for this early. Good luck with your outdoor adventures, mine are still seedlings and i cut my own clones off my indoor grow all still to early to place outside. Did you check your sunrise/sunset lengths of daylight? You want 13.5hrs or more of light so photoperiods don't flower early. Keep us posted.

Definitely too early to be this hot! At the time I transplanted I was at 13:42 of daylight. I planted in a container so I could move around. Parts of my yard are in direct sunlight all day. I’m trying not go overboard with this 1st attempt. Trying to keep it a fun hobby!

Got past our HOT SoCal weekend. We are back to May Gray with daily highs from mid 60’s to mid 70’s. Would this be a good time to introduce direct sunlight for a few hours a day? Pic is from this morning. Haven’t watered since Saturday. Soil still seems moist.

Happy frog user here. Even slight runoff is nutrition running out of the soil. The soil will run the plant fine for about 4 weeks with just water. At the 3rd week would suggest nutrition addition or organic top dress. I do not presume your level of growing so if anything is unclear just hit back. Lots of folks here to help

Appreciate your quick reply!

I only watered to minimal runoff because of the predicted high temps and being its 1st real watering. My thought was water deep to keep hydrated especially since I added perlite to my Happy Frog.

What do you use for nutes? Thinking of Fox Farm liquids just to keep it simple. I figure I won’t need them till the end of May.

Like I mentioned above…this is currently a hobby grow. Trying to keep it fun without chasing every rabbit down a hole. I remember back in the late 70’s throwing seeds out of my bedroom window that sprouted without thought. Luckily I saw them before my Dad!

Fox farms is a good choice. Lots of folks use FF. The biggest choice will be to continue your organic grow or start with the chemical fox farms. All organic is my choice and I can help with any specs of growing organic. I use a fish poop pour for flowering and natural top dressing in the pot at week 3 where you just add a soil conditioner made by fox farms.

Best resource would be
www.growweedeasy.com
Second best resource is right here. We have a section called diaries. You navage through the 3 horizontal bars and click forums then scroll for diaries. Once in diaries use the search feature to keyword things like fox farms, autoflower, organic, or whatever. This will pop up links for diaries closer to your goal rather than read through hydro rdwc or smart pot or drain table grows which prolly sound like I changed to another language LOL.
In my opinion the easiest grow is organic. The major thing to master with organic grows is watering the plant. Most PH related problems I truly believe start as overwatering. Also overwatering is not to much at one time. In an organic grow overwatering is not letting the pot get dry and light before adding water.
My last 5 gallon pot grow my highest water input at any one time was 2.8 liters and that gave me slight trickle runoff. 2.8 liters of water is like 5 lbs. You can feel the heavy. Get in the habit of checking weight and look for a slight bit of pull away at the top of pot to soil contact. Dry cycle is important.
In Organics it is not necessary to pH water. If you have hard water it may be beneficial to have a source of pure water. Your local water provider is required by law to list water test data you do not have to pay for a lab test. Pure water can be expensive as a daily but there are alternatives. Ro buddy makes a 3 part filter for aquariums that was $50;shipped and yes it has a 2-1 waste but it will make about 500 gallons of RO water before filter changing.

Once you add nutes to water you will want to check and adjust pH to whatever the bottle says or 6.2 to 6.8 pH. Test strips worked fine for years but I do have an apera 60 pH test kit cause my old eyes see like 4 colors and they progressively look darker to me. Shades are beyond me for discernment.

Kool hobby. Last hobby I would sweep up the brass and go clean firearms. Unfortunately running a 3 gun course unless I can use my mower is no longer gunna happen.

Feed schedule is on website but OMG shitty website for navigation. You have to download feed schedule.

This is what I use in flower only. I top dress ( pour 3 inches of stuff ) with fox farms soil conditioner yellow bag
Dr earth is also all organic and hard to mess up. You will need 2 bags one for veg and 1 for flower
So 3 organic choices from bags that last a long time to liquids that need pH adjustments.

It’s been warming up in SoCal. Transplanted my clone on 5/7. I move my pot into direct sun in the morning, indirect sunlight from noon to 3 pm, and back to direct for the balance of the day. So far water only but will add nutes in another week or so. My question…does this plant look ok? Anything I should do to help it spread out?

Looks good to me, let it grow! All the cats on here that grow in pots will keep you abreast of what to do. I’m in the ground, no clue about potted plants. Looks great, full speed ahead!

I would top it. Then after your two new tops have 3 nodes, top them. Will make a very nice bushy (and manageable) plant, with lots of bud sites. (You’ll also want to cage it before it gets wider than your final pot size, so it doesn’t break apart during an October rain.)

That black plastic pot will get pretty hot when the temps get up there and is out in the sun all day! Keep your eye on things!😁🐒
