i just upgraded from a 2 light grow bucket to a 2x4 apolo grow box and i was wondering if i could grow two plants on 3 vero29s (D) 2 3500k and 1 4000k leds running on a hlg-120h-1400b ? i see people running like 6+ cobs and i am afraid my leds wont be enough to grow but i also don't have 400 bucks for a huge cob set up. i also don't understand drivers, it says my leds are compatible with the 120,185, and 240 and i understand these allow more leds to be added but will i be ok with the 120h? please help.

I recently had the same issue with my setup @SmithsJunk helped me out a lot maybe he can jump in here but this is my current set up. I have 4 x 100w COBs that are run off a 320 watt driver so that means my lights are operating at about 80% of their capacity which is safe but still very bright for my space check it out. If you have any specific questions I’ll try to help as much as possible.

Looking good man. Nice to see you able to help other people now. It's the whole point of this forum.

Vero29 are very similar to the CXB3590 that Twisted13 is using. If those lights put out 100w each then you should have no problem. I think I went over this with Twisted13 but I'll say it again just in case. Vero29 are as efficient as CXB until they drop below 70% power. Luckily for you you only need the two 100w Vero29 3500k's to run your two plants all the way through till harvest. The 4000k is dead center between veg and bloom lights. You can run all three all the way through but you'll need to raise them up for more clearance and then turn them down to around 70% if you want to keep that high efficiency.

I'm sure Twisted can help you with that setup now. They should be almost exactly the same as his (barring a few minor adjustments).

So watts equals volts multiplied by amps. Is you are running the standard 36v cobs (I cannot remember the vero29 specifically but I do know they come in different packages so the model matters.) I.e. vero 29c or d or whatever the other models are.

If you're running 36v per cob you are multiplying it by 1.4 (the amps) and you get your wattage.

Choosing a driver is as simple as picking something in the voltage and amperage range for your cob. You can look up spec sheets for both and match them.

Growmau5 on youtube has 2 or 3 videos on this subject I would start with ac vs dc drivers if you want to look it up.

As for the grow space... try it! I would guess you'll be fine for a 2x4 though

hlg120,185,240 is the max power these drivers put out.so 120 is about 120w max, 185 does close to 200w and 240 does 240-250w depending on model used and cob wiring. for a 2 x 4 tent you want 240+ watts in there and 300w would be better. cant remember on the veros if those "d" chips are 37v or 72v but i think those are 37v. either way you wont get enough power from the hlg 120 driver. you should grab the hlg 240 if you havent already got the 120.

I think a concern in a small tent is the waste heat produced, at 50 watts a cob, I read somewhere that was the sweet spot and as wattage/current increased across the cob, more heat was generated, of course with more lighting intensity. When I was considering cobs to buy I looked at the Timber set up, at 100 watts per, with their big heat sinks, versus the Rapid kits and more normal heat sinks. I ended up with the 50 watt per cob design over the hundred watts because of that.
