Still researching Zone but ive always used Roots Excel and am being told not to run DM Zone with Roots Excel. Makes sense it kills off the beneficial microbes but im weighing the options of which is best to run for a RDWC. I have a theory that the benefits of using Roots Excel over Zone will be seen in the end result, but i also dont want to lose a whole crop over an issue Zone would've handled.
Please share your thoughts.

First off the the workman ship of the whole set up. You cant tell that you paid close attention to detail and everything was well thought out.

I like you will be fine with out the zone. I have see BudGoggles dropped the zone at out his recipe and just went straight roots excel. As long as you have low rez temp I think you should be good.

Other than that I what your doing. Looks great I'm glad I discovered this thread.

Busy week

Been swamped workin on the shop and other projects. Had one of the corner buckets crack near the uni-seal so it leaked out over night. Plants wilted on top the screen but revived within a day after i added tap water for a quick emergency flush. a lot of leaves were damaged and dried up. Not too happy with this issue and kept me busy. Drilled another bucket and wrapped with insulation. Drained the water and swapped the buckets out. Was a battle to do with the screens in place, air manifold in the way, and not able to move all the other buckets. Note taken, on lining up my drill press better next time to avoid weak spots promoting cracks under pressure.

So moving forward;

Mixed a new batch of Veg nutes and waiting for RO to fill up overnight. i will remove tap water thats currently flushing the buckets tomorrow. Gonna start off lower PPMs to avoid tip burn.
700+ppm seemed to be too high this early in veg with this strain.

Ive been monitoring temp inside the air blower soundproofed box and added an 8" fan to the intake. This helped cool it 5-10* easily.

Havent been running my 2ton Split AC since its been generally cold here but my humidity is 80-90%. Room temp stays at 75* with lights on 24/7. Only running the 3x 600w MH lamps and lowered them to 24" above the canopy. Before it was actually at like 28"-30". Im lookin to fire on the other 3x 600w MH lamps once i feel the plants regain vigor and can handle more lumens.

When i get a chance this week i will post photos with a detailed update.

Really nice beginning, lurking to learn ins n outs of rdwc as i design a system for myself. I am concerned your humidity levels are high enough that your plants can't transpire and move nutes effe tively? Thinkin sweet spot is closer to 60-65%? I live in colo so my problem is trying to keep rh high enough!

Looking really good, Boom - what material is that screen made out of? Not the PVC, but the actual screen........looks like a coated metal?

thought u were king of HD? ha
its in the building material section. 2"x1" screen mesh meant for keeping rodents out of ur yard/garden. they have galvanized, black vinyl, and green vinyl coated rolls. galvanized was like $20 cheaper but i liked the appearance and the smooth coating to protect plant limbs.

Week 4 (veg)

Starting week 4 this weekend.

Did a flush a few days ago and added new veg nutes. Waiting to see how it balances out in the buckets after a day or so but specs should look sumthing like;

PH @ 5.8-6.0
PPM @ 600-650

Water Temp @ 67*
Room Temp @ 73* 50-65% RH
C02 @ 900ppm

Still Running:
Heavy 16 Veg as my base
Cannazym
Roots excel
Superthrive

Heavy 16 Foliar/once week

Im thinkin about 1-2 weeks more of veg until the screen fills out, then flip.

Looking good BL........might consider something more like 400-450ppm. Plants will uptake more water which will probably speed growth. They look a little nute stressed to me. IMHO

ya its been a rough ride from the get go. two buckets cracked when doin full water changes, plants wilted, then had to do a quick nute rez water add with too high of nutes, saw tip burn so did a flush and trying to get bak on track since then. i was waiting a couple days to see if they do ok at 600ppm but i will def consider lowering the ppms now. just gotta dilute it down with sum RO tomorrow then. thanks for checking in and giving sum good advice.

Ya i was able to have all the space but not all the equip! lol. in time tho ill reinvest and fill that room full of green/ :harvest:

i have had so many ups and downs with changing out the water and balancing ppms/ph that i dont wanna make any judgements but the Heavy16 seems to be doing fine.
I really like their foliar spray, its got a lot of beneficial shit like kelp extract, carbs, sugars, B1, and helps with stress. after everything ive put the plants thru i think it def helped.

From what i was told, he has sent roots excel to his lab and having them check out the proprietary blend and see if it is truely sumthing special.
So it will be interesting to see what he comes up with for his beta roots blend. im more then sure i will have a few diff beta blends to try out and see how it compares to my grows done with H&Gs Roots excel.
One thing i was stoked to hear, Heavy16s roots product will cost way less then H&G Roots excel.
ill keep u posted.
