Hello! Christmas came early! Santa left me a Vipar XS1500 Pro grow light and a newly-sprouted plant!
This plant has lived under similar light - at 60% power and 8" height - 24x7.
My question is, with a new home ... Can I cut the day/night cycle to 18/6?
The book on this lamp recommends it to be set to 60% and 11.5" for the vegetative stage.

About me and my first cannabis plant. Long-time consumer, first-time grower.
Thinking the plant is about a month old? I on the other hand am a senior citizen.
This first plant is in a soil mixture in a 3-gallon plastic pot. Not sure if I want to go soilless.
I plan to grow with a fully accessorized 4x4 tent.

Been reading for several hours and getting excited!
Considering pruning to branch out and get bushier.
Thanks for the advice and support!

Welcome to the Farm Fam!

Do you know if its a photo-period or an autoflower? If it's been under 24 hours of light its probably an autoflower (be sure), so you can give it whatever light you want really (still has to sleep for a few hours though, I use 18/6 myself). If it is an auto and you prune it, it's likely to stunt it's growth. If its your first plant, just look after it and let nature take its course. Don't over water it, just get used to its dry weight, and its full watered weight and judge it that way. I also never go below 16" from light to plant. Good luck :).

Growing a Blueberry photo myself, still a seedling, so I'll be looking forward to your grow too. Best of luck. 18/6 as already stated is fine. But just make sure that when your plant is in darkness, that there is no light getting in at all.

I am not into tech; will try to post pictures. My guess is the seed was direct-started in soil around Nov. 15. It was raised under 24-hour light cycle; until switched to 18/6 on Dec. 19. It is in a basement; quite cool, water only (no fertilizer). Grow tent is due for Christmas. Photos taken today.
p.s. I am starting another thread - a flowering (?) plant arrived and I need help!

It looks very small for a 1 month plant, was it given in that substrate to you? Any chance to know what substrate that is? Whenever I see those kind of substrates I see problems (peat with half decomposed stuff and chunks of wood). That could explain the slight yellowing as she doesnt seem to be taking nutrients from the shadowed leaves to survive. Its probably a small phenotype that the owner didnt want because the others were bigger? It has sativa leaves but looks like a small indica.
That said it looks healthy enough but those kind of soils greatly benefit from beneficial microorganisms to take advantage of their organic content. Sometimes they come with the substrate sometimes they dont, depends on the ammendments it has and if they added some. Those kind of soils sometimes even come with critters, which are not harmful for the plants but goes to show that the ammendments are not fully composted.

Sorry for the long read, it looks good I just wanna make sure I can give you some valuable info to make it even better! Also dont forget to swap to 12/12 when you want it to flower.

looks like some light stress. 11.5 inches is too close imo. one should never go by

the manufactures recommendations. personally, i would go at least 24" for a plant

that size. prolly help it stretch some as well.

Appreciate the valuable input. I do not know the substrate. Fairly sure no amendments.
Should I add beneficial microorganisms?
I have moved the light up. Heck, discovering those adjustable rope clip hangers is 'priceless'.

i would recommend great white, it's a little pricey, but a small bottle

will last a long time. you will also need hi-brix or some other kind of

molasses to feed the little fungi & bacteria. i'm not a dirt farmer,

best to wait for some others to chime in & get a concensus.

it should def be put on root balls & in transplant holes.

i use a little solder flux brush to sprinkle it.

I was down with a stomach funk but all is well today!
Some current pictures ... been 'straight' watering; light is 18/6 cycle. I am raising it every day trying to keep 10 - 14" distance.
Thanks y'all for your support!

Today's update - pictures attached. In the basement - temp 60; humid 25. Still straight water (no nutrients).
This is my first plant - so no training; just let her go!
@R4V3N @Cophiljay When will she be ready to flip to flowering?
The lower leaf tips are starting to brown. What does this indicate?
Thanks ya'll!

Your going to need some nutrients bro.... And she looks like she's asking for a little more light... Your leaves are praying... Meaning they are pointing up. Usually a sign of wanting more light. They should be flat. She's already or flower so I would flip to 12/12 and get you some cal mag and some bloom nutrients
