My guess is from an evolutionary perspective the plant doesn't want to waste resources because of a windy day or a cold rain it wants to know that the ground temperature is changed
Im sure they are signalled by air temp, change in light intensity, nutrient availability etc. not just ground conditions.
But indoors we can play god and let them keep growing in a stable environment. I do t want to copy the harsh conditions outside.
Only a few times have i ever smoked outdoor weed that was better than good indoor.
I wish i could have grown those flowers indoor to compare.
