Hi community,
I want to start my first indoor grow soon. As I am living in spain, I want to by a light in a local shop. Could you please tell me, if the light, I would choose is OK?

I add a translation here, if you cant read it.
power 50W
Opening angle 120degrees
CRI >80
wave length Red: 620-630nm / Blue: 460-470nm
Temp. of work -20° - +45°
label A++ chip Epistar

Projector with led chip designed for indoor cultivation. Stimulates plant growth by combining the ideal light spectra for growth. They do not emit heat and the plant does not burn or dehydrate. Offers a full spectrum of red light color for all stages of plant growth and flowering.

Thanks!

Hello rabo! I wanna go back to gran Canaria and be misunderstood soon again. Good times were had.

I would suggest going on alibaba and order a light from kingbrite f.ex. they have a good reputation online. Also spiderfarmer have a good reputation and they have a sales rep here as well. You might get a discount if you ask.

If this was unclear please ask and I will try to be clear

The light in your link looks okay but I think it will produce a lot of heat and is maybe made for another purpose.

You dont want it to produce too much heat

Hi Goblinkiller,
no, the heat is not the problem. It nearly produces no heat. The main question is if the spectrum is OK. And if yes, I would like to know how many lights are needed for a single plant.

How large is your grow area or tent? That light seems small.
I will build a 6ocm x 60cm x 160cm growroom. In inches that should be 23,6 x 23,6 x 63
I could buy several lights. I guess 2 or 3 might be OK. maybe even 4. But the main question is the spectrum. Adding lights is no problem.

I only want to grow one plant. I don't need more.

I'm no lighting expert here but I think you're going to need full spectrum light rather than focusing on the red spectrum, which seems to be the case with that light if I'm reading the specs right.✌️

Maybe someone knows. In the description, it is called a full-spectrum light. and as far as I know, plants can only use some wavelengths. But I am not an expert. Does anybody know about that?

What is an old blurple? Do you mean a light made from red and blue? Maybe. ;)

But as long as the plants like it, it is OK. don't you think? It is sold by a professional shop for growing plants. I do not think that weed has special needs compared to other plants. After all it is just a plant.

Blurples are old technology — stripped down lights so space station astronauts could try to grow plants. The newer, full spectrum LEDs are big improvements.

I am not the kind of person who buys the latest and greatest thing. I wait to see what proves to be good. The newer, full-spectrum LEDs are superior to the old blurples. However, the old stuff will work if you have your heart set on it.

It would be nice to see more of this . . . people supporting their local shops and economy. Don't listen to the idiots who suggest alibaba/kingbright . . . support your local grow shop regardless of what country you live in. These Chinese companies steal the research and development of companies such as HLG, manufacture a cheap knockoff of their products that they then market on the internet worldwide disregarding any patents/copyrights other companies worked for or earned. If we keep supporting these Chinese thieves they'll be the only ones in business. Myself, I'll spend the few extra $$ to support manufacturer's based in my own country whenever possible . . . and if it weren't 120+ miles to a local hydro shop (I can't see to drive any longer) I'd buy from them and damn the internet retailers. I do try and buy from more local shops that offer shipping, but that's getting harder as we force them out of business by supporting the likes of Amazon and Alibaba. If a few extra dollars in your pocket are more important to you than your local retailer and nation's economy don't go to whining and crying when China starts telling you what you can and can't buy.

I just had to order an adaptor for a microscope from Amazon. Many items are just not made here. Sometimes you have no choice.

Yes, i also buy products at Amazon it is necessary. but for a grow lamp I do not think, I have to buy it there. There are many other opportunities. But about that particular lamp, I guess it is not OK. So I will look for others.

No doubt . . . we all are in that position with far too many things these days. I'd just like to see people support their home grown businesses whenever possible before they do China (unless you live there) . . . I just see us (USA) and others becoming far too dependent on China and their manufacturing capabilities for too many things and I've never thought it would be a good idea to be dependent on a communist nation for anything.
