Can Stress/environmental Factors Cause A True Hermaphrodite?

I'm creating this thread because I seem to hear a lot of different opinions on this subject.

Anyone who has seen my other threads knows I have recently found a couple true herms in my grow room. By true Herm, I mean it's not nanners, but both male and female parts. Some say I could have played a role in this, and some say it's purely genetic.

I wanted to hear the opinions and experiences of current members here as I can't find any concrete info on this subject...

This is just my opinion by the way, so take it or leave it. In the past I was real big into growing landrace strains, its all I wanted to grow. I think if you look at genetics from Thailand (or similar) ratios of female to male seed seem to be much higher than with straight Indica seeds from Afghan (or similar). The Thai strains seem to also have a much easier way of reverting to herm. I think this may be a necessity for survival but it could just be luck of the draw. With hybrids though it makes it tough to gauge. Again, I don't have any science behind it but when I grew strains from Thailand, almost all of them would be female. I would very interested in learning more about it though.

How many hermies did you get? I only seen the one you posted last week. If it was several then i'd say there's a problem.

I doubt its an environmental issue as i've been following your grow diary and don't see any cause for alarm in how you're growing them.

Also i've seen varying degrees of hermaphroditism in plants and usually when its just minor stress it's usually just a few nanners here and there not a ton of them.

It kinda sounds genetic to me, but I hate to cast any aspersions without knowing for sure. Sucks cuz I have a pack of the same beans as well waiting to grow, heh.

So far I've found 2 in the SLLP. If you get a chance, check out this thread about my 4 kings.

I don't know much about genetics. I believe fudge said the cookies are causing the Herm issues. I could be wrong tho...
That sounds about right. My cookies n cream I found a hermie and killed it and the #3 pheno which i've been growing the last couple rounds throws a couple naners here and there. They are sterile though but I make sure to pluck them off. However it's just a couple per plant, not a bunch of them.

I have heard that being an issue from a few folks. And don't doubt it. Thats why I crossed the male with a female AK-47 which is very stable and should hopefully reduce the chances of that trait being passed down. But of course we won't know until I grow them out.

So I'm starting to think it could be environmental, but can't figure out what. I've found 4 so far and possibly have one more. Temp swings are a good place to start. I wanna try to bring my night temps up a little anyway. Fudge said 61 degrees could hinder their growth.

But I've never seen someone's grow journal with this many true herms caused by environmental factors. It's usually nanners. This is stressing me out...

What are your environmental conditions? Everything from temps, light cycles, soil, ferts, soil ph, fert solution ph, additives, etc. I doubt we’ll find anything but you never know. When it’s all laid out it might make the picture a little clearer.

11/13 light cycle, my typical temps and humidity are posted above. Rh- 25-40. Temp 61 at lowest. 81 at highest. Fox farm ocean forest soil with perlite mixed in. Some getting fox farm nutes at 50% some getting full strength nectar for the gods. pH 6.3-6.8 going in. I don't check runoff lately.

Your not getting nanners though dude..you get nanners mostly through stress.the true herm is what your getting..its in its genetics.
I concur. The amount of pollen sacs leads me to believe it’s just shit luck. We tend to blame grower error as we are used to that being the case. But here I don’t think that’s it.

Although it can happen to even the best breeders and grow gods.

I popped some AK47 F1 seeds and for the first time in 4 packs got a true hermie. I was looking for a male to make seeds with and had it labeled as a female and then one day lo and behold pollen sacs.

I was quite shocked and did some resaearch online to see if it’s a common issue or one that has ever been reported and I didn’t find much. So I just culled it and chalked it up to getting unlucky.

How weird tho? I popped 2 of the 4 kings. Both look like herms. I got 4 herms in my sllp. Both different breeders... That's REALLY bad luck!
