A little over a year ago my wife was diagnosed with diabetes and had been experiencing foot and leg pain for months before. We both suffer with lower back pain and I had made a sauve for pain and skin ailments that helps.

After researching and reading every scientific study and home made recipe I could find, and my wife's doctor saying the current literature states a sauve made with 3-1 THC to CBD has shown the greatest relief of diabetic pain, I once again made some changes to my recipe and now make as much sauve for not only my wife and I but several friends as well who suffer from arthritis to cancer and all ask for more on a regular basis.

Before extracting the cannabinoids the cannabis needs to be decarbed or decarboxylated. A fancy way of saying the acid molecule attached to both the THC and CBD molecules needs to be removed to activate the cannabinoids. For THC it's a simple 30 minute stay at 250F in an oven

(toaster ovens are better suited for this purpose as they hold a constant temperature better than an oven due to their smaller size, and you can take them outside and not smell up your kitchen). CDB takes longer at 90 minutes.

I never break up or grind the flower/sugar leaf before placing in the oven which makes straining out the plant material much easier and the heat will do the job either way.

Once the flower is decarbed I weigh the flower and place 1 gram of plant material into each ounce of coconut oil. For example 1 cup of oil is 8 ounces so I would add 8 decarbed grams of cannabis in a canning jar with 8oz oil then place the jar(s) into a slow cooker with water, enough to cover the jars to below the lids which are loosely on the jars. Turn on to the high setting and allow to cook for 3 hours.

Once removed and cooled a bit I pour the oil into a French press coffee maker

and strain out the plant material or you can pour the oil through cheese cloth.

Now you've got THC and/or CBD oil

that can be processed further. You can also put this oil into caps

for internal use.

For sauve I place 12 ounces oil (9oz THC and 3oz CBD) into a clean canning jar then add 1/3 cup bee's wax, 1/4 cup olive or avacado oil and return to slow cooker until wax is melted. Once removed add 1 tablespoon of tapioca starch and 1/2 teaspoon of xanthan gum which keeps the mix from separating and blend well. I use an immersion blender.

Pour warm into containers and keep containers in the refrigerator or a cool location and use as needed.

The oil extract can be used in baking recipes or even used to make gummies.

I've also started adding 1 gram of fresh lavender

to each 8 oz jar while decarbing to help cover the cannabis smell. For caps I do not use the lavender.

Any high THC strains will work. Personally I prefer indica so that's what I use. For CBD I grow Cherry Wine hemp which has 18% CBD but of course any high CBD producing hemp plants will work.

I keep to making 8 or 12 ounces at a time as I had a half gallon jar break and lost a lot of infused oil.

This works well on any topical skin irritation as well as muscle and joint pain and of course diabetic neuropathy pain. Deep tissue issues like back pain not so much but the caps do help most body pain but keep in mind the TCH caps will get you high.

Man this is awesome. It’s like you’ve read my mind, I’ve been planning on asking you how you make your salves for a couple weeks! I’m an electrician and this last year I’ve started getting real bad nerve pain in my elbows and wrists so I’m so glad you’ve posted this.

I’m thinking of getting a decarber that seals in the smell as I think my whole street will know if I do it in the oven but apart from that I’m definitely going to do this recipe.

Do the buds lose much weight after decarb?

Also I’ve got a load of cbd that’s a couple years old, do you think this will still work?

Cheers mate 🙏

Not much, a gram or two per quarter ounce.

Depending on how you've kept it, freezer I hope? If not who knows without getting it tested. You may not have to decarb it.

It’s been dried cured and left in mason jars, but now you say about freezing does that mean you use fresh bud not dried?

Either way I may use this old cbd as a practice run anyway, I’m going to pop a couple of new cbd ‘s this weekend

If it looks good I'd give it a try and no I don't use fresh or frozen, always dried and cured for at least a few weeks. I've smoked the hemp I grow, by its self and mixed. Tasty stuff but I prefer the THC.

Appreciate you taking the time to post this. The gel caps got my interest when you first mentioned them back a spell. I run a heavy ounce (30grm) per quart for my cooking oil which is close to yours (32grm). I just ordered some size "00" gel caps, might make a small batch and run that ratio a little higher say 45 grams per quart. I've got a surgery on my shoulder coming up so the suave might be my next project.

Thanks bro 👍

For the decarbing process, I’d definitely recommend using a toaster oven, it’s way less smelly and keeps the temp steady. I’ve had good results with a similar approach, but I usually grind the plant material before decarbing.
I've made a lot of tincture and found that the alcohol will remove the cannabinoids whether I break up the flower or not. Same with hot oil and makes straining out the plant material much easier😉
