There are two materials that will give soil great CEC . Those are HUMAS and CLAY. One of the best clay is Calcium Bentonite Clay, cat litter is just that, read the lable before purchasing. Cations have a positive charge. Some of the cations are Calcium, Magnesium, phosphorous, pottasium and most all others .Nitrogen has a negitive charge
That's why we have too supply it often, the Humus and clay will not hold it, it will leach out.
