Hi, New to the forum. I have come over from grass city to see what people are doing with tincture. I use everclear 190 and am currently working on infusing simple syrup for beverages, dessert toppings etc. I have had decent success using perfected xanthan. Recently moved on to a product called 210S. These two binding agents come from the modernist pantry, I do not work for them. I was wondering what other folks are working on with their tincture. To date I have made chocolate and grape syrup. Both syrups tasted great with no cannabis flavor detected. The taste of cannabis in edibles puts me off. There is no interest, besides one or two people, on grass city. It may be the same here. I am working in an area called nano-emulsions. There is recreational application and possibly medical because of the bio-availability of the cannabis compounds. So, I am looking for filtering advice and if anyone else is working with molecular gastronomy. Thanks, stay safe everyone!

Here are some pics of my infused simple syrup attempts. A hit and a rare miss ( mixed too early). Anyone else working on things like this with tincture or distillates.

Xanthan is great stuff. Thickens and emulsifies, with synergistic effects with agar and carrageenan.

The simple syrup will be difficult, as the oils from the plants won't emulsify without some trickery. You could try making an agar agar fluid gel (2% agar, 0.5% xanthan gum to the liquid by weight)

I like using tincture to deglaze pans, in any cream-based dish, in pesto, and added to chai. As long as the flavor is good and there's fat for the oils to dissolve in, it'll go in almost everything. The days of weed mayo aren't far off.

I'm just starting in nano emulsions, so I have a ways to go. Mayo should not be hard, I used 210S from modernist pantry. It is a combination of gums and emulsifiers. I have tried and had success with perfected xanthan, very thick. The 210 maintains better fluidity and so far mixes cold into cold solution (ice and club soda). 1 tablespoon equals 50-100 mg depending on the material and how well the extraction went. I have made chocolate milk that greened me out and tasted like chocolate milk, no cannabis taste ( I can't stand it, sorry heretical!).

I am just lurking on future4200. I was going to start with a short path distillation set up and a buchner filtration if cleaning them is not too much of a problem.
I am researching carbon powder, celite 545, diatomaceous earth and some others for filtering, but my backyard method of two nylon mesh coffee filters with filter paper separated by a 90 micron bag gives me a nice filter on one pass. mostly lipids and some wax, sometimes sediment. If I want to move onto water soluble crystals then filtration matters. My ethanol extractions are pretty clean and potent for using a regular freezer for the etoh. The color is simply an aesthetic, the syrup functions fine. I could set up and vacuum on layers of carbon and celite. The drawback is potential loss of cannabinoids according to future 4200, these guys are the real deal.
For the mayo, use some infused coconut oil. My infused oil runs about 75mg per teaspoon. It may just mix with bottled mayo and some xanthan. All hail the milk frother!!!!!

As far as the filtering, I’ve purchased a vacuum pump and filter that will work with coconut oil, so sure it will work ith your syrups..

Experience wise this is working. I'd recommend vacuum pump and filter.

Just to clarify, we are talking about filtering tincture not the actual syrup? Simple syrup will crystallize quickly when processing from my experience.
I have tried xanthan, arabic, carageenan, and polysorbate 80 (food grade) to infuse the syrup with varying degrees of success. The 210S did the best job. A two week old refrigerated infused syrup will mix into cold club soda and ice. It even dispersed into alcoholic beverages. I am working on a video, it is pretty easy if you are familiar with tincture.

Here are pics of my infused simple syrup at work in a strawberry seltzer, I forgot to filter the seeds out of the strawberry syrup.

Here are more pics from the cold infused simple syrup in cold seltzer and ice. I did not take top down pics and I may have missed the separation yesterday. This is the final and gold standard test. The syrup has held up to all the cold tests but this one. It has the least amount of 210 (1%) and can be doubled if needed. I reduced some juice and poured it into to rescue the cannabis oil. The fruit juice gives the oil and 210 something to bind to and pulls it off the ice and into suspension. The downside is loss of fluidity. I have to find the sweet spot between enough 210 to hold the syrup together in the worst environment and fluid enough to mix easily into a drink. This is the frustrating part and have me the most trouble when I used xanthan.
I actually want to acknowledge psychedelic Sam from another site. This syrup is actually his, I have just been working with him on it. The term "my syrup" is misleading, his tincture and pointing me in the right direction saved so much time and money!

Here are some pics of the separation and how the beverage looks after some reduced fruit juice and a little more 210 added.

Here are photos of the almost three week old syrup. I mixed with tang and it held together pretty good. I will repeat this with ice on Saturday. Next batch of syrup should dissolve in seltzer or club soda on its own without separation, hopefully.

Final draw down with a syringe to filter out the rest of the sediment. Pretty much lipids and wax which do not hurt the emulsion process. I continue to research filtering techniques, any input or guidance is appreciated.
Microphone and tripod arrived, tincture is ready. This is my first video, ever! If you are going to ding me please tell why so I can learn.

Sorry for the delay, had a medical issue. I need to do a portion of the video over again. I did not do a good job on the lighting. I put the the lights on the opposite side of where I was instructed to put them. I have a lot of respect for audio/visual people. It's a lot harder than it looks, never mind the editing.

Hi, long time since I posted to myself
Still working on the video, I have a couple of cringe worthy attempts not suitable for public consumption
Still cranking out edibles

Here are some pics of my projects, once the video is filtered through psychedelic Sam ill post it here
I feel its 99% done, the 1% is my execution of making the video
I have a roughly made peanut butter cup made with infused simple syrup and infused coconut oil, some fruit leather and popsicles made from berry puree and infused simple syrup,
Last is a picture of the simple syrups prior to being used
Currently working on a water cure to help reduce any of the cannabis taste in the edibles
Right now it is a slight floral taste way in the background, may be able to eliminate most of it

Hey Tincandtoke! Im researching making some simple syrups and tincture, Just read your threads. Did you ever make that video? id love to know your recipe! Also why do you filter your tincture so much?

Hope your having a great day~!

I filter the tincture to remove or eliminate as much of the cannabis/chlorophyll taste
I do edibles almost exclusively due to asthma and the taste of most edibles made me feel nauseated

Here are some recent pics of new syrups
You can see the difference from the filtering
Working on a filtering video right now will post if there is interest

Just watched the vid. I think im gonna try it out! ive made alot of tincture and oil infusions and i think this will be the perfect thing to add to my arsenal.

One thing to add, If you really dislike the flavor so much, have you experimented with frozen tincture? Its not as efficent at grabbing all the good bits off the flower but it leaves almost all of the Chloropyll and waxes behind.
