Because they grow so fast, I'll put them in 4" pots, then 1 gallon, before I select who's the prettiest. LOL

Thanks much! Do you have pics of the plants? Were the leaves that fell off near the bottom?
And did you spray the plants too?

The septoria that ruined my plants last year eventually reached the sugar leaves and I had to destroy all.
Here's what it looked like:

Heya C is see you’re back at it. Happy to read along and learn what to do about septoria this season I’m going to move my plants into the sunniest part of my garden and give that a try. I wish I knew what stopped it on my plants somehow I think it was the frost I got cuz it only affected the bigger leaves and didn’t really affect much of the sugar leaves. I’m going to look for something here that will help early onset. I’ll look for something up here.

Hey Rooke! Glad to 'hear' from you again. Good plan to stay to the sunniest side of yard, but that didn't help with me.
Turns out this Spring has not been near as wet as last year at this time, so my little umbrellas might not have been needed. But, better safe than sorry.

And YES, the temperature is important when it comes to the various fungal infections. Last year I also noticed a slow down when the temp. dropped.

If I spray anything on the plants it will be diluted H2O2, or a very dilute citric acid, anything to change the PH so the plants are less hospitable to the pathogens.
I also have biofungicides to use on the soil and some can be sprayed on the leaves too.

Hmmmm, I see alot of spraying in my future. LOL

So, it looks like the umbrellas WERE needed. We've had 3 days of on and off rain with 2 more on the way.
The little ones in the house now have *2* fans going all the time. 😁 (learnt my lesson)
I have a few too many, even after culling some while transplanting.
6 flats with 18 in each, that means.... too many! LOL
How are your volunteers doing?

So, when is D-day? (dirt day)
Trying to figure when I'll be able to tell which to keep and which to cull.

Around here is anytime after the first week of June to be safe! I don’t know about your neck of the woods! You have a lot better veg weather than I do! Last year, I didn’t get them out into the big pots in back till June 28! But come late October and early November I didn’t see any difference between them and the ones put out the first week of June in previous years! So I don’t sweat it too much anymore!

I'm thinking about putting 2 or 3 plants in each pot so I can just let them grow until the boys show themselves.
But I have sooooo many different ones.... ahhhhh!

I think I can use those thin fiber bags that are approx. a gallon before I have to put them in their forever homes.

I'll have to think about that in dreamland, nighty night. LOL

I hear you! I will up pot once before they go out back! Then probably three in each pot till they sex! With reinforcements, waiting in reserve! I would prefer one to a pot, but don’t have a problem with two! Given the chance might even try three each bent in different directions! Nighty night!

I am sooooo stressed right about now.
In addition to the weed, I have 4 flats of geraniums, 3 flats of Roman Chamomile and a flat of Large leaved canna flowers.
And the funny thing is... I have no idea where to plant them all. LOL
Wait, AND a flat of basil. Lemon, Dark Opal and Greek mini. Geesch.

Oh, oh and I have 2 flats of zinnias, 1 tall and 1 short. Now THOSE are going in the flower garden and THIS year I'm put up a trellis to help keep them upright into the Fall season.

I had them under LED shop lights augmented with 'grow' strip lights stuck stuck on between the original lights.
A very low budget setup, but I thought it would be fine 'cause my geraniums and roman chamomile did wonderfully under them.
Now, I DID notice the tomato seedling's cotyledon leaves looked fried and they haven't done much for a week.
Possible that I over stressed the weed seedlings too and it wasn't as obvious.
i start seeds and veg under 5000k shop lights pretty often. Theyre fine, just dont let em get closer then 6 inches or so, white and blue wavelengths carry a lot more energy for their intensity. When they burn youll know. Burn under those 5000k lights almost looks like mineral nutrient burn along the tips and margins. 8-10" is fine with 5000k. Node spacing stays tighter under higher energy wavelengths by default. It is however the hardest color of light to wean a plant into real sun from. i dont usually use them for plants that will end up outside. I pop many outdoor seedlings right into full appalachian sun. And give it to them as often as possible as soon as possible.

They look to me like they were in too much humidity for too long at too low a temperature while being exposed to more light then they were expecting. Seedlings dont have the surface area to regulate their transpiration rates/temperature much yet. And i start giving mine direct sun the same day they come above soil too avoid light weaning issues. And the only reason temps in the 40s dont hurt a plant inground is because the ground or larger containers dont actually get that cold, they lag behind air temp swings significantly. Little seed containers will though. Seedlings can also get a lot leggier then that before they fall over, just ask my pan i left out in the cloudy rainy weather this last week lol. And if they dont turn the ends back toward the light against gravity within an hour or two then theres something else awry with em.

TL:dr, if the seedling and its root ball gets cold enough, and the humidity is still high enough, especially if dew point isn't actually reached, the seedling wont actually be able to cycle moisture or transpire pretty much at all. (pretty environmentally rare circumstances, everywhere but a greenhouse in spring lol.)

Sister if i had your space and a handy hubby i'd make a farm stand. I'm ashamed to say i had failures on my flat of zinnias and the simple marigolds crazy eh? I don't know why other than they had to sit under the patio that probley was too cold. Now i planted more of something really simple sunflowers all colors 3 flats those are popping up. I planted more bushes around my backyard fence this a.m. ornimental grasses and butterfly bushes i like color. I still need to plant my corn.

I tried to grow coreopsis and they came up grew 2 leaves, then turned dark and stopped. Something was off with my setup 'cause the tomato plants did the same thing.
Basil and chamomile were fine, weird.

I put everything in the greenhouse last night but this morning the temp is already down to 32 degrees and it usually gets colder in a couple hours. Oh, ya, I couldn't sleep again and it's 3:30am. 🙁
