Distance between lights in grow area

I have a 600W and 1000W mh lights in by basement grow area (12x3.5) I need to know the distance between the 2 lights to optimize space and light. I haven't bought my clones yet but I'm thinking 4 plants at a height of 5 ft max

I think you have a little more space than light.

I'm thinking along the lines that a 1000 watt should be good for a 5 foot length of your space and the 600 another 4 feet, since they are classically used in 5' x 5' and 4' x 4' tents.

Maybe the 1000 watt 2.5 feet from one side and the 600 watt 4.5 feet away from that. The effectively lighted area would be another 2 feet beyond the 600 watt lamp, for a total of a 9 foot long lighted area.

This what I came up with @mysticepipedon. I got the 600W 3 3/4ft off the wall and the 1000W 4ft from it. I have 1 more 1000W fixture but I only plan on growing 3 mother's from clones for now. Maybe I'll use it to flower them 1 at a time

Keep in mind that walls can be valuable reflectors of light (depending on color of the wall). That's why I was kind of herding the lights over to one side or the other.
