Man, i had pretty much forgotten about the three stooges. gonna have to check some out.

Try Google Docs. Itās a free substitute for MS Word. Easy to figure out, and it automatically saves your work.i'll have to do it in a word file, but my puter's on the brink and i can't open word.
Iām about to use mine for the first time. Great tip on the added wick. Iād love to know if itās working. If I could ask one thing, do you prewet your medium before placing the pot in place or just let the wick do its thing on dry medium? I intend to obviously moisten it unless I learn otherwise. I would appreciate your input. Thanks.A few more quick posts regarding the garden. Note that the phosphorous deficiency is only in Plant #1ā¦.the plant that I flushed more thoroughly than the rest this week. Once I added Liquid KoolBloom to her reservoir, the ppm climbed to 1100 and I adjusted the ph to 6.0. I then ran 1 gallon from the reservoir through her coco to increase the available nutrients in the root zone. Runoff ppm was 1100 too, so I donāt plan to replace the reservoir. She just needed some food.
Daytime Tent conditions shown below. Running at a VPD around 1.25.

The wicking system on the Vivosun isnāt quite enough in my opinion. Their 1/6 inch wicks are small too. Iām only running 3 gallon fiber bags, so perhaps I would do better with 5 gallons. In the interim, Iām going to run two more 1/4 inch wicks across the center of the pot to see if I can get more nutrients to the medium.
Before and After Vivosun wicks on 1.3 gallon reservoirs

Big thanks. I just ordered 50ft of 1/4ā wick material. I appreciate your guidance. Iām amazed at how little info is out there about the Vivosun pots as opposed to the ACI ones. Iāve hand watered all my grows and didnāt want to repeat other peopleās hard learned lessons with these pots. The added wicks made a huge difference. My plants soaked up almost one gallon each today (in 3 gallon pots with coco). They had been taking up less than .33 gallons. This solved it for me. I believe I did top water a little at first before the tap root could reach the bottom 1/3 of the pot. I also wanted to settle the soil so I watered before planting. However, I planted them in their final 3 gallon container at a really young age (using pre-moistened soil).
Good luck with your grow. If I could do it again differently, I think Iād swap out coco coir/ perlite for ProMix HP/Perlite. Thatās just a guess though as I havenāt tried it yet.

Iām using a 70/20 FF OF and #3 perlite, and a top layer of FF frog to help my transplant. I put your ProMix HP/ perlite recipe in my notes. Cheers.
Iām really enjoying your journal. I've had my self feeding bases sitting in the corner for a few weeks. I'll definitely upgrade the wicks to 1/4ā and add more when I get started. Just started growing again after a break of a few years. Just set up my 4 X 2 deluxe Vivosun tent and I'm looking forward to growing again. I've never grown in a tent or in winter. So its been interesting. Heaters, thermostats, and humidifiers is all new to me. I'm in a cold dry basement. Again, thanks for the information and inspiration. Happy growingGreat news on the Vivosun wick modification!! My plants are now wicking moisture again. Each plant wicked .3 gallons since I swapped wicks. I lifted each pot too to verifyā¦ā¦they are holding more water.
My adviceā¦..add more 1/4 inch wicks before you even start using them.
Thanks PlumberSoCal! I did this self-feeding base to get away from hand fertigation too! They are extremely easy to use. Between the constant feedings and vacuuming out runoff water with hand fertigation, it was a huge time investment and it felt like a waste of nutrients before I started using these.
Vivosun actually has a small pump (called Flex Feed Drip System) that will fertigate the plants sitting on these bases using the nutrients in the 1.3 gallon base. See attachedā¦.small pump is shown sitting in bottom right corner with tubes feeding the top of the plant. I would need to replace nutrients every 2-3 days I suspect, but it would prevent the salt buildup Iām dealing with. If I werenāt moving towards a DWC grow next, Iād be inclined to try this. Maybe next winter.
I survived my last grow with only 1-2 flushes. Iām hopeful that I can finish this shorter grow with only one more flush needed. But this little Vivosun $18.00 pump looks promising.
