Yes, air stones do have issues, but those stones are cheap and disposable too. Air stones make big bubbles, medium bubbles, tiny mini-bubbles, micro-bubbles, all sizes of gas bubbles. When the pores occlude they make no bubbles. Many growers seldom admit they have a problems with ambient air too... that problem is low DO in res water causes plant and microbial suffocation, hypoxic water, sick, dying and dead roots inviting fungal break-outs. Fungi do love those dead rotting roots to feast on and grow their young colonies. Yet root rot, fungal outbreaks, special brewed teas, various poisons and “the cure” is always a popular topic of interest.
So, have you ever heard of nano-gas bubbles or nanobubble technology?

Oxygen and Air Nanobubble Water Solution Promote the Growth of Plants, Fishes, and Mice http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0065339 Published June 5, 2013 Kosuke Ebina, et.al. [email protected]

*Oxygen-nanobubble significantly increased the dissolved oxygen concentration of water as well as concentration/size of nanobubbles which were relatively stable for 70 days.

Nanobubbles are special and of more interest for the serious Pro-grower, commercially growing for profits. And, nanos are probably technologically far beyond the interest or reach of the average hobby growers scope of growing and budget, yet interesting.

I saw this thread and did a bit of digging, it seems that the easiest way of buying and installing a "nano bubble generator" is from here http://www.oxydoser.com/
Any thoughts??
