Hello everybody!

This is a thread for my first grow, ever, hence the title name. I've always loved this plant for many reasons but haven't had the time or patience to do anything with it until now. It's been a crazy time of it getting to this point. When I originally bought my tent (used) it was from a guy hours away and we ended up forgetting the connector pieces for the corners and to extend out the middle. You know, those things you need to build a tent with. So instead I frankenstein this contraption that ends up being roughly 2x2x3 and the plants start their life under a 230(ish) apollo T5 light....waaaaay not enough life for the girls for the first half of their life. I was kind of intimidated about the whole hydroponic, shit goes wrong in 3 days, one false move and your ass is grass (get it?) No margin for error. So I opted for soil as a medium, my local places don't carry fox farm and the closest hydro store is an hour away (awesome guy tho, I have since bought some cool shit from him) so i created a base of dr. Earth cow bags and pot of gold (also dr. Earth) for the plants. Ok so after a couple weeks in veg the girls need more space, so a buddy of mine and I came up with building the frame out of pvc. We also found out that the tent is NOT a true 5x10x10, no, that shit is like 4 1/4 x 8 2/3rds x 9 foot. Like who the hell lies that bad about their measurement. I don't even know who the tent company is since I bought it second hand. Anyway, off on a tangent, so we rebuild the frame and hang the T5s I got (came with the tent) now it's a little over 400 watts of T5 and they look better but not great. Ok, fuck it, in for a penny in for a pound, so I buy a 600watt HPS with the ballast and all that good stuff, hang it, with the new hurricane fan, AND put together the new 4 inch inline fan with duct work and run it to the HID. The tent goes from a tepid 70ish to over 90 fucking degrees. It hit over 100 one day. And I'm like what the fuck. The AC is on, and the tent is vented, the fan Is blowing (straight from the ac) cold air and it's still fucking 90 degrees. So I smoke... a lot, and think about what it could be, for at least a week. Finally when I'm in there with the tent wide open, fretting about the plants and letting it cool, I realized something. I left the fucking T5s on the whole God damn time!!

My wife says "no, that's not it, they dont get that hot"....to which I replied "what do you know devil woman?!"

low and behold, 3 days after turning the t5s off it's down to a brisk 75-86. Not Maine but you know, baby steps. So these girls have had a rough life, but they're all fighters. They've been under the HPS 600 flowering for a little over 2 weeks now (17ish) days, I forget exactly because ... I forgot to write it down Haha. Regardless of being deprived light, wind, burning, way too high heat, way too much water l they're starting to thrive now..... I'm so proud Haha.

these are all right after the HID was put in, the light made the frame bow a little bit after I had to rework the design. I screwed in all of the joints that are supporting the weight so they're not going anywhere. I dont know what the strains are, I know that one is an auto.

Welcome. It looks like you have 2 or 3 sativa dominants and a couple indica dominants good luck with the grow.

Ok it's been about three days since I fed the shielas. This last round I gave them 5ml/l of medione, then 2ml/l each of emerald harvest: king kola and sugar water (forget the name, honeycomb or something), calmag (still a bit of a mag deficiency going into flower) then a full shot of liquid microbes through the Microbe Life Hydroponics line (my hydro store got a shipment of these boxes in for customers). I love this product line so far. I tried my first batch of clones in clonex rooting hormone solution for my hydrocloner, 1 packet per the container and 2 T. Of great white mycrohaze powder that I stirred into warm water then added to the hydrocloner. Turned the air on half way and let the clones set for a week under, a single 25 watt t5.... and nothing happened, for 2 weeks! Finally I started to get frustrated and see what else I can do. My local store told me about this stuff after i said i had a problem with the clonex. So I went with my intuition, I snipped higher branches from the veg plants (roughly 2/3rd up) cleaned the bottom, scored the end and shaved off the outer skin. Then I let them sit in the root dip for around an hour, and then let them sit in the water on minimum air feed, oh I also changed the water and added some of the new root dip and the photosynthesis mixture. Now one is shitting out a tree stalk and the 2 new ones are already starting to root. My old clones that didn't root, I stuck back into the new root dip and put them all under the 600 watt led for 18/6. They seem to like that.

Anyway back to the shielas. I had a gnat and trenching problem with all the plants and someone had suggested on another thread to use clay pellets to act as a barrier for the gnats and water pooling. Seems to have worked for the water, as I watered today and everything ran off from the middle of the pot to the sides. As I'm using cloth pots, everything came out of the side but was then reabsorbed fairly quickly from the drip pans.

I also started a new crop from seed to go with my clones, but they all seem to have died since moving to the LED tent from my t5 closet except for kingpin. I probably won't be ordering from canuk farms again, at least half the seeds I ordered from there died shortly after germination or they never germinated

Alright I was able to get some good pictures (with help from the mrs) of the shielas today. Finally I can start seeing pistils for each of the kolas aw well as some new baby popcorn buds sprouting on the autoflower. I had no idea what an autoflower was when I planted it... so I did the exact opposite of what I was supposed to do with everything. It's pretty much just one giant bud. I'm happy that they just made it that far!

Alright big day today! Transferred all the clones and planted some new blue dream fem. Seeds I got today. I cant wait for the blue dream that's my medicine. That helps me more than anything else. The rest of the clones are part of the batch in flower that I lost the name of. I used Dr. Earth black and white (cow bag) and fed the water with the Microbial Life Hydroponic line of liquid microbes for the seeds and clones. We'll see what happens next week!

Alright got the tomato cages and clips in to help LST the shielas in flower. I kept the canopy pretty trim their whole growth so it's nothing but tops on these. 5 girls got caged today, all about 2 ft tall 1.5 ft around

Alright so it's been 12 days since I saw pistils come out of the plants. I did some LST today for the girls since my test plant worked out really well. Also gave the clones their first feeding today. Calmag, and emerald goddess grow A and B at 1ml/L the ppm was under 700 so that's great for the clones from what I've read

Alright, so the shielas are rounding week 4. I love the new TDS/PH combo meters to help really get the details right for the feeding. The plants are really coming along great. The clones seemed like they got a little bit nutrient burn. I've found that the big girls in flower need 2-3x the recommended dosage sometimes. The clones and seedlings (tho 2/3 weeks old now) only got fed 250 PPM according to my TDS and it still looked like a little bit of burn on the leaves. The seedlings are Blue Dream fem. They are what this whole thing has been about. I'm going to have a constant mother of one of those going at all times.

FIRST HARVEST LAST NIGHT WHHAAAAT?!?!!!

I harvested the autoflower based on an expert's opinion that it was ready to clip. I tortured this girl not knowing how to treat autorflowers, it has been transplanted, lighting was changed, LST/HST, and that is the one that got watered waaayyy too much in the beginning and started my whole fucking gnat problem. Now that it's gone hopefully they will weed themselves out
