Hello everybody!
This is a thread for my first grow, ever, hence the title name. I've always loved this plant for many reasons but haven't had the time or patience to do anything with it until now. It's been a crazy time of it getting to this point. When I originally bought my tent (used) it was from a guy hours away and we ended up forgetting the connector pieces for the corners and to extend out the middle. You know, those things you need to build a tent with. So instead I frankenstein this contraption that ends up being roughly 2x2x3 and the plants start their life under a 230(ish) apollo T5 light....waaaaay not enough life for the girls for the first half of their life. I was kind of intimidated about the whole hydroponic, shit goes wrong in 3 days, one false move and your ass is grass (get it?) No margin for error. So I opted for soil as a medium, my local places don't carry fox farm and the closest hydro store is an hour away (awesome guy tho, I have since bought some cool shit from him) so i created a base of dr. Earth cow bags and pot of gold (also dr. Earth) for the plants. Ok so after a couple weeks in veg the girls need more space, so a buddy of mine and I came up with building the frame out of pvc. We also found out that the tent is NOT a true 5x10x10, no, that shit is like 4 1/4 x 8 2/3rds x 9 foot. Like who the hell lies that bad about their measurement. I don't even know who the tent company is since I bought it second hand. Anyway, off on a tangent, so we rebuild the frame and hang the T5s I got (came with the tent) now it's a little over 400 watts of T5 and they look better but not great. Ok, fuck it, in for a penny in for a pound, so I buy a 600watt HPS with the ballast and all that good stuff, hang it, with the new hurricane fan, AND put together the new 4 inch inline fan with duct work and run it to the HID. The tent goes from a tepid 70ish to over 90 fucking degrees. It hit over 100 one day. And I'm like what the fuck. The AC is on, and the tent is vented, the fan Is blowing (straight from the ac) cold air and it's still fucking 90 degrees. So I smoke... a lot, and think about what it could be, for at least a week. Finally when I'm in there with the tent wide open, fretting about the plants and letting it cool, I realized something. I left the fucking T5s on the whole God damn time!!
My wife says "no, that's not it, they dont get that hot"....to which I replied "what do you know devil woman?!"
low and behold, 3 days after turning the t5s off it's down to a brisk 75-86. Not Maine but you know, baby steps. So these girls have had a rough life, but they're all fighters. They've been under the HPS 600 flowering for a little over 2 weeks now (17ish) days, I forget exactly because ... I forgot to write it down Haha. Regardless of being deprived light, wind, burning, way too high heat, way too much water l they're starting to thrive now..... I'm so proud Haha.
these are all right after the HID was put in, the light made the frame bow a little bit after I had to rework the design. I screwed in all of the joints that are supporting the weight so they're not going anywhere. I dont know what the strains are, I know that one is an auto.
