Hey All,

I'm nearing harvest time on my first grow. The plant is slightly too close to the light in the vivosun VGrow, I can't get it further away at this point and I'm not sure super cropping at this point is a great idea.

Grow info:
  • Medium: Fox Farms soil
  • Liquid Nutrients: Fox Farms Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom (and some Ph Down on occasion when required)
  • Seed Type: Auto
  • Strain: Sour Diesel from ILGM
  • Tent: Vivosun Growbox

Over the past few days I've noticed a lot of this, just on the top canopy, nothing like this below it. I've dropped the light down 15% today when I saw this. Looking to identify potential cause and also solutions/risk mitigation from here til harvest.

This is day 75 from seed. Other images showing trichomes and plant in general.

Any and all suggestions and advice are welcome. I don't want to lose my first one this close to harvest!

Man that's a heck of a auto huge gal. But fella those leaves are very concerning almost like rot. Can you check the branches your seeing this on and check the stems for mold. Is it drying out well?

Thanks, agreed. Very concerning! Just did a closer inspection of all the stems and they actually still look good at the base. No visible evidence of rot in the buds, but these yellowing/spotting leaves are definitely dry and crispy to the touch.

Looks to me like a late stage deficiency exacerbated by the the wavelengths of light that are produced by LED lights which is why you see it higher up. One thing I didn't see in your regimen was Cultivation Nation Micro, presuming you want to avoid mixing brands. It may help keep it in check next time around. Sure it's ugly AF (leaves) and maybe not the best she can do but pat yourself on the back, you grew a nice plant so far, all said and done.

Appreciate the uplifting words! It definitely looks like it may yield more than I anticipated - as long as I can mitigate problems for the last couple weeks while the trichomes finish out.

You're right - I avoided mixing brands. Had a lot of learning to do for my first run, and a LOT of learning I did. But it made sense in my mind to keep it so one brand and learn the ropes before getting too crafty with it. I'm already excited for my next grow haha

i agree i can see some led light burn on those top leaves, it looks like leopard spot when it starts.

For sure - unfortunately, in this vgrow box I can't raise the light, and I can't move the plant any lower (I already removed the water reservoir to add a few more inches of clearance when I super cropped it (I hand water anyway)). Different/taller tent setup in the future... but for now, just trying to get this thing to my first successful harvest!

I turned the light down from 100% to 80% to try to manage it from here on out since we're nearing the end.

For your first grow you did it right, you kept it simple and with the encouraging results hopefully you want to grow some more. There's lots of stuff you can do to keep distance between the plants and lights but it's done as you go so your not having to fix it later. Before your next grow, look up LST and scrogging. Or even HST where you bend the branches 90 degrees. The latter isn't for the faint at heart though. I've snapped branches trying to HST them, with nothing to do but yell, "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU..."

Haha definitely have PLENTY of new things to try and improve on for next run. Already looking forward to it too! I did HST on a couple of these main colas a few weeks ago actually. Definitely was a major "FUUUUUU" moment or two 🤣. But she survived and recovered in a day. These things are crazy to watch.

Don’t obsess over fixing a problem that you won’t even have the time to correct because it’s day 75 with an auto!!
Yeah, I agree. We're too close to the finish line at this point. I think my only choice is to lower the light intensity and ride it out until those trichomes look ready.
