Why is it a girl?

And you are correct you kill all or you let them fight each other and make a controled enviorment. Both doesnt work.

Is there a chance you break your roots each time you go look at them? That doesnt look like a lot of roots for 30 days
The nail on the stem says '''female'' and I take great care not to brake any roots when I lift the bucket, Its just that there are not that many of them protruding,
Your plants and root balls are very very small for this point in their life in a hydro system, they should be 3 times that size. I did a 6 week veg and my plants are almost 3ft tall and the roots are the size of basketballs.
I just supposed the majority of the root system would be inside the 20 lt of hydroton in the upper container of the aquafarm which I dont think is considered a dwc. But the size of the plant tells all. I dont know what I do wrong. EC is per instructions, PH is controlled between 5.5 and 6.5 water temp is 20C ambient temp is 22C led light is 18/6 60cm over the top of the plant at 70% power, humidity is between 50 and 60%. At this point I am tempted to uproot the whole plant and scrap it just to study it, since I do my first grow as experimental-educational, but my hand refuses to do it. I shall veg her for another week and then flower her just for observation and learning if not for anything else. I'll keep posting.

Thank you both for taking the time.

No your roots wouldn't be hiding in the hydroton, the would be racing down to the water. Looks to me like you have some bad root rot that is causing this. I use hydroguard and keep my water at around 68F and haven't had any problems.

I can see what you mean by racing down,,,, The central ones are 3ft long. It seems I lost quite some time dealing with root rot. The roots you see sprang the last 10 days between posts and some days after I started using microorganisms in my water after I abandoned the sterile way. I know about hydroguard but since I cant find it readily available I use another product with baccillus amyloliquefaciens (the ingredient of hydroguard), plus a load more invisible critters beneficial to the root system of a plant. Plant Revolution Great White premium myccorizae is what its called. Water is 69F temp and ambient temp abt the same with lights on, PH regulated 5.5 to 6.5 in 48 hour intervals, EC 1.800μs. water level droping 1lt/24h. Light schedule is 12/12 for a week now but I dont see any sign of the hairy female genitalia that denote the preflowering stage yet. Instead the plant is making more leaf growth. I think in the next rez change I shall cut the nitrogen in the food a little and up the potassium accordingly if any sign of pistills is shown (hopefully). Today I also noticed a white soapy substance on the walls of the lower pot, probably colonies of the bacteria Im using.

Your plant is looking somewhat ok up top but your roots still look bad. My roots will be a out the size of a volleyball by the time I flip to 12/12 and I literally mean a mass the size of a volleyball, by the time I cut them down it's almost filling the 13gal bucket on some of them.

Yuletide greetings to all. Today after 22 days of 12/12 lighting regime I got the first signs of preflowering. Now she drinks 3lt/48h and also ec is droping from 1800 to 1600. PH is also droping slightly and I cant understand why. Anyways next step would be to flush the system with clean ph'd water and go for a change in the nutrient schedule. I use GH tri part system wich seems to do the job well enough. The roots have grown a lot also. Now they have reach a respectfull 5ft length which makes it difficult to lift the bucket without them sweeping the floor. RH is 40% ambient temp is 71F lights on 63F lights off. I might have a problem with that if the weather gets any colder. I have a heater in the rez that keeps a steady water temp at 68F but Im thinking of adding a thermal curtain for the night time.

Your plants may want a stronger feed, also are they getting enough light? Seems a little behind to me for week 3 of flower in a hydro set up. The pic below is week 4 of 12/12 for me.

4th week of 12/12, trimmed the leaves, spread the plant a little. Then I did a whole cleaning operation with peroxide solution because the PH was droping constantly and I think it might have been roots dissolving and ending up in the rez acidifying the solution. I douched the roots with clean water (the hydroton also) and then 24 h in a peroxide solution and today she will start eating with a full flowering schedule, meaning less N, more P. I shall also keep the EC to the low side. I discovered the origins of my plant the seed wich was lying in my fridge for a couple of years, is some kind of ayahuasqa (the first word had faded) and it seems it is very sensitive to overfeeding. EC at 1700, PH 6,5 temps 20-22 RH 50-60%

And yes she is a little behind because she was stunned by all the mistakes I made. Next try will be better probably. I will also have to built a dedicated room for growing.

Despite all the mistakes it seems that there will be something to show at the end. She is entering her 13th week and yesterday I spent the best part of 3 hours exfoliating her. She is sticky as fk, i cant remember how many times I hat to clean the resin off the scissors. I had to change gloves 3 times. and I am left with a bag of leaves almost a kilo heavy. She drinks 2 lts a day now and the EC is also droping slightly so I pinched it slightly upwards at 1.900μs/cm. I let the PH rise to 7ish before I amend it to less than 6. This takes 3 days or so. Temps during lights on are 68 in the rez, 70 ambient. The problem im facing right now is that at the coldest part of the night temperature drops to 59. It seems the specialised heating intrument I got for 55 euro doesnt do anything. I think Im gonna go buy a small air heater with a thermostat.
