Many of you may have seen this on another site or 2.....lol

The Freak's DIY Cheapo Bubble Cloners - They work like a dream!!!

(Remember: ALWAYS water your plants about a half an hour before cutting clones, much higher success rate, at least for me since I've been doing it.)

Just to let you all know beforehand, I own 2 "EZ-Clone Machines" and these Bubblers work better IMHO. Stay cooler and cost less to operate, plus no noise from waterpump, less room, lots of pro's not too many con's.......lol

All items can be purchased at Wal-Mart (except for Botanicare 1-5/8 Neoprene pucks) got them at local Hydro Shop.

from here on out "Bubble Cloner" will be shortened to BC

Items needed:

Plastic Sterilite Shoeboxes with Lids - $1.27 ea

2 - 6" inch airstones per BC - $1.97 ea

Botanicare 1-5/8 Neoprene pucks - dozen per BC

25 ft of 1/4" Aquarium air line tubing - $3.97

Krylon "Fusion for Plastic" Black spray paint

1-5/8" Hole Drill & 1/4 inch drill, (If using EZ-Clone brand plugs, you'll need a 2" inch Hole Saw)

Hot Glue Gun - $4.99 w/ glue sticks

Good Quality Dual outlet Air Pump ( I use Hydrofarm Dual-Diaphram 4 outlet, and run a couple BC off of each air pump)

T5 lighting or whatever lighting you prefer.

Okay, Here's how I build them:

1. Lay out plugs on lid, leave room in between as the plastic lid will crack and split if they're too close together, mark center as best you can, lay lid on plywood backing and drill your holes, de-burr them with an X-acto Knife. I use the smaller neoprenes as I usually put 2 or 3 cuts into each plug

2. Drill 2 - 1/4" inch holes as close to the top of the shoebox as you can, just under the lip for the incoming air lines.

3. Paint entire outside of box and top of lid with Black spray paint, the more coats the better. to block any light. I've seen folks use expensive foil tape, but why?

4. Hot glue the 2 air stones into the bottom of the box, with nipples facing towards the 1/4" holes you just drilled

5. insert air lines and connect airstones to pump,

6. Fill box with dechlorinated tap water, add 40ml of Clonex solution per gallon, dip cuttings in gel, insert into plug and put plug into hole on lid with at least an inch of cutting down in the water at all times. I usaually spray cuttings with anti-wilt before I put them into BC.

7. Keep the light about 3 or 4 inches above the tops, keep water filled to incoming airline holes and you should see roots starting in about 5 or 6 days.

Good Luck and let me know how you like them...We just built a friend one out of an under-the-bed storage box with 48 sites, 6 airstones and he put 3 cuts in each puck and got over 95% rootrate in 12 days. he uses Olivia's, I prefer Clonex. I've always just had great success with it, why change.

Peace
Freak

Here's a few photos to maybe help you out while building one and to see how well it really does work.

definitely makes for some healthy roots....Yes, I prefer making giant clones!

I really like these nutes for doing my cloning, the one thing I am trying with great success is "Dip-n-Grow" concentrate ($9 for a long-lasting supply, over 1000 cuttings I'm guessing), you mix a couple ml with about 10 times that in water....you should let the cuttings sit in it for a few minutes (NOT seconds), but they ALL busted out roots in under 6 days in these Bubble Cloners last round.

Been using this same nutrient system for years, works best for me.....Don't use the Roots Excellurator until you see the root hairs....
Peace & Enjoy,

Why would you make one like that, that only costs $20 to build? you could go to the city and get one just like it at the hydro store for only $ 123.00.
You crazy do it your selfers! better yet just go buy new clones for $50 a piece at the dispensary and save your self $20 and 10 minutes of you time to hook ALL that stuff up.
...I know people like you, gotta do everything the hard way.

I just built one of these the other day..gonna try it out in the next week or so. Very cool idea and it was pretty fun to build. Im starting to enjoy finding ways to save a buck on gear so i can put my money towards quality meds. Ive had great luck for seed germ with the glad throw away black tupperware lasagna dish things too.

Looks great, thanks for sharing. You could also lower the water levels as the bubbles will spray the roots as soon as they hit the surface.

Used the same bubble cloning technique a while back but without the Clonex and all the other solutions, just water did the trick :)

I built a BC before seeing this. I used a locknlock container. Plenty of bubbles.Took about 3 weeks to root and all rooting happened high up the stalk in the splash zone i.e. no rooting occurred in the submerged areas of the stalks. I'm getting better results old school in rooting plugs (about 2 weeks). I do have a v2.0 in mind using a deeper container to keep stalks above the water level. The whole idea is about faster rooting and just didn't pan out on the v1.0 for me. Perhaps your setup will work better, although I'm skeptical of submerging the stalks at all IMHO.
