Fruit Quest: The Great Terpene Treasure Hunt

Hey guys!

So today is day one for my attempt to find the most delicious terps possible with 10 seeds!

I hate that I’m running seeds again, but this is the only way to find that unicorn!

I just planted 5 Super Boof and 5 Rainbow Sherbet seeds from Barney’s Farm in 10 peat pellets.

They’re under 18/6 with a Viparspectra P2500 240w light at ~25%

So as of today, all 10 seeds have come up!

Now begins the selection process as I have to whittle them down to only six!

Just a little bit about this grow…

As you can see, I started all 10 in Jiffy pellets, and now that they are all showing their first leaves. I am feeding with a very small amount of Ruby, lightning start, and equinox all from new millennium.

As soon as the roots start poking out the bottom of these things, I am going to move the six that I have selected to their permanent home in 2 gallon fabric pots of canna coco With a little bit of pearlite and a little bit of earthworm castings. I find that the earthworm castings gives me a little bit of a buffer rather than just straight coco!

But I’m also thinking about putting half in the grow bags and half in 1 gallon plastic pots just to play with that dry back and my drip system…buuuuutttt I don’t know if I’m ready to keep up with it just yet ha ha. It’s pretty intimidating ha ha ha!

I run the full line of new millennium nutrients, and have always got the best results from them.

Does anyone here know anything about these two strains? I can’t really find much information about if they are heavy feeders or if they stretch a lot.

I’m just really excited about the prospect of cool terps in these new strains.

Nothing much to report until I get my tent cleared out, and it’s on day 60 today. So hopefully within the week!

These seeds are growing quick though!

Trying to keep the stretching to a minimum so I took the dome off the tray yesterday morning because I heard high RH can cause more stretching!

I kept the same feed going, and it’s so hard to judge waterings with these peat pod things ha ha.

I’m starting to wonder if these plants will fade now that I removed all the fans…

My favorite smelling plant…VERY gassy ️….is starting to purple but only on the tips of the buds…wondering if it’s environmental, the feeding with plain water, or genetic…

Thinking about running RDWC in the future just to say that I did, but then again I think about skydiving too ha ha ha.

I just can’t understand why when I grow plants outside, you can smell them from a literal half a mile away, but these indoor plants don’t really smell that much in comparison.

I was told that they’re holding onto terpenes inside, and it’s good not to smell them intensely except when disturbed…the cure will draw it all out…I hope he’s right!

Oh yeah!!

So a good grower friend of mine has been working the same line/strain for over 30 years now, and still has his original mom going.
I was talking to him yesterday, and think I got him talked into selling clones because these plants are like every older growers dream!
He bred the plant using an old school northern lights with a strain called Chronic from back in the day…yes it’s a strain ha ha…but the result is a heavy yielding monster that smells like “old school KB” in such a way that you can’t describe, but you know it when you smell it ha ha ha. So I’ll keep you updated on that front as wel ha ha. Trust me when I say…you’ll want to know!!!

So...

grow journaling is pretty boring until your plants are further down the line ha ha ha.

I will say this though...

If anyone has ever seen any early 2000's stoner movie, then you will remember the term Goofy Boots used for cannabis in How High AND Rolling Kansas!

Now...

Im going to spray one of the Rainbow Sherbet plants with my STS spray that I make myself...its way cheaper and super easy....and then im going to pollinate a choice Super Boof plant...

This will create the perfect combination for a new strain called BOOFY GOOTS!

I also got inspired by the PhenoForge logo my buddy sent me, and now ive been glued to this ChatGPT ever since!

Man seedlings are my nemesis at this point! I’ve seen them do all sorts of weird stuff because of what i do (or dont do) to them! Hahaha! How’s the progress coming along? : )

Nothing out of the ordinary so far.

Still at like day 9 or so since germination.

But you’re right! It’s crazy how quickly you can mess up a seedling!

Also…I’m pretty sure what I’m going to do is veg all 10 of them in one gallon plastic pots (so I can check the roots) for 5-6 weeks or so, and then select 6 for the 2 gallons to flower in.

I really wanted to put them into 3 gallons but I’m on the fence about it.

Whats your hesitation on the 3gals? I have a couple in them and for what im doing I feel they are just to big (like the difference for what im doing isn’t going to be a big deal I dont think)

Hell yeah man! Thats a “hold your breath” and hope that smell goes away! Hahahah!

I think for fitting 6 plants that 2 gallons are the way to go.

So.

Update on the dry tent!

You guys ever just open the dry tent, and shine a light in? Only to find that your buds somehow when from leafy wilty buds to glistening delicious buds? I love that ha ha.

Anyways…

So I’m smelling these buds and the terpenes are definitely getting stronger and more complex as the grassy fades away…

4 of them are some combination of the typical berry, gas, lemon, and skunky terps, and I like that…

But the crazy ugly fox tailing sativa that was just out of control from the start has now gone from sharp lemon smelling to VERY pungent burnt rubber and like used motor oil ha ha.

I’ve never personally had a plant like it!

Really interested to see if it carries over after the cure or even evolves more!

Anyone ever have any weird stuff pop up before?

It’s weird that it’s from a modern breeder though.

If it was a bunch of open pollination or something maybe.

Today is the day that the children move into the tent!!

Finished drying the last run, and managed to pull just over 11oz!

I feel pretty good about it considering I’ve never grown a plant indoors before!

Ditched the Grove bags…

Don’t like em.

Everything sticks to the edges and you have to MASH an oz into the oz size bag h/aha.

Anyways…

I wish ALL plants naturally grew three branches at each node instead of two like this one I pictured…HUGE plant!!

I topped the plants, and fimmed a few…here they are…still pretty boring still hahaha.

About 3-4 more weeks until flip!!

I also lost a plant due to being too aggressive with the breaking part ha ha ha.

So for fun I put one in a five gallon pot just to see how much more water it’s going to take since I’m in coco and gotta have runoff.

I got annoyed with the whole runoff thing, and put a small sump pump in a big flat tote angled to one side, and now I can just water to runoff and pump out the extra.

Hopefully that makes it easier…we’ll see…

I also took down the net already ha ha ha.

I’m too afraid of locking plants into place…so any guidance would be helpful ha ha.
