So really what you are looking for is a PPFD number to set your sweet spot. Most hobbyists do not have access to that kind of meter. There are some phone apps that some people use, but we might just have to wing it with your setup.

Please post a pic of the whole grow from the base of the pots to the top of the useable space - max height you can raise your lights and we'll help you get it dialed in.


Without any kind of meter reading or more detailed info we can only speak in general terms and you already have that covered with your 12 inch to 30 inch range. With a good pic, we can look at the whole, see the options, and look for light stress or areas lacking light.
