Im a few months into my first grow excess heat has forced me to keep my tent open. In doing so i had to light-leak proof my lung room. So now im thinking the tent may get taken down and the room turned into a grow room as opposed to a lung room with a 5x5 tent. This has me pondering on the pros and cons of the decision. The room is a finished bedroom with central air. Since i opened the door to the lung room and all tent flaps my heat problem is gone.

Anyone want to help me run the pros and cons of the lung room made into a grow room?

Mounting of the lights on my celing requires drilling and adding supports up in the attic because i dont fuck around with questions of supporting expensive lights or fans. (I do all the building and work myself because im good at it). That seems like a small con.

Reduced temps is a pro
Improved circulation is an absolute pro.

I see a bunch of people on the farm with tents in a lung room that could possibly be used as a grow room also so....i dont know if most peeps have a better reason than ease.

I picked mine up because i thought having my grow contained in a tent would be this awesome self contained deal and they look so cool blah blah....but im not so sure i need it after getting started. In fact im not even sure its a good idea to have a tent in a bedroom anymore.

Happy Toking!

Will you be able to keep the room cool with the light heating the entire space? Right now your tent is removing a bunch of heat out of the exhaust.

I believe the heat from the driver is greater than the heat in spread of the light. But yes that a consideration to keep in mind.

A room would be awesome. Just seems like it would need additional equipment or just larger equipment.

The tent does much better at controlling the smell, unless you can seal the room.

Tent already has reflective material, you will have to either get some white walls, grow panels, panda film, or mylar in order to get the same reflectivity. Without it, I would think you would need more lights to accomplish the same coverage.

Tent will keep pests out much better, unless you seal the room.
Tent will contain any spills or mishaps.
Tent walls won't absorb moisture and grow mold like drywall.

I'm now running 3 tents all in the same room, I can have different environments in all 3 tents which means I can grow plants at different stages and/or perpetually. Less time between harvests, more bud!

I don't exhaust into my lung room, I have it ran through a wall into another room. This alone keeps the temps lower because I'm not exhausting hot air into the lung room.

I am in the same boat. 3 tents in one lung room.

I have a similar setup!!! My lung room is my bedroom and my 5x5 tent is in my big closet. I had to have a custom window installed in there so I can exhaust out of the closet to another part of the house. I am not a big fan of exhausting into my lung room either.

Like most have said, the separate tent in a lung room offers you options.

Are you venting the tent external to the lung room? That would be the place to start if not. Even if you can’t go outside you could go through the ceiling into the loft/attic (maybe put a dehumidifier up there if there isn’t airflow to outside).

Also you could try and divert some of the central air (I’m guessing this is like an air con for the whole house?) from the vent directly into the tent, with a bit of flexi duct fastened to the air vent. Maybe even put an inline fan in to suck the central air directly into your tent.

Oh and can you remove your lights driver and place outside the tent?

Captn suggested the same about air into the tent. The brutal az heat is the reason i did not and frankly cannot divert the airflow into the tent. It would then reverse the heat situation and make lung room too warm and cause me heat problems in the lung room. 115 degree heat in the day causes problems....90s at night doesnt give us time to recover from the heat with open windows. Lol. Ac needs to remain distributed.

Driver extension cable is on backorder and my light makers wont give me any word on possible replacment. (Kindleds customer service is NOT responsive)

I do relly like the idea of multiple tents as that seems to be the best way to have different enviroments in a single room. My room is pretty small. Smallest room in the house. Only 11x10. Close to that. With a tiny closet. The 5x5 has left me a narrow space between all sides of the tent with a bit more room in the front.

So if i keep just the equipment i have now do we think the spread of the light would be less effective without a mylar or reflective surface? So if i wanted to keep my plants pretty centered in the room think i would make it?

I guess i need to study some small grow room set ups on a real level and do some further pondering....

A dampened exhaust vent into the attic is an easy install. If im already up there putting up 2x4s with thread rod for holding the lights and fans i might as well.

I think this might be next years project.

in that heat I would think about open too. what's your light? to think about open and in the middle you will need bit of power for light penetration.
Have a happy pondering and snooping around 😉
I would be more than happy to have designated grow room instead of tent

Tbf I would be more worried about me dying in that heat rather then the plants 😂

Just thinking out loud but you wouldn’t have to cover the whole vent, only partially so the bedroom should still get cold air.

Does the tent vent into lung room at the moment?

Also, if you do go down that route you could consider fixing unistrut to your ceiling (screw through ceiling into trusses)

This way it’s easily adaptable, strong enough to hold anything you hang on it and most importantly much less time spent in the loft in that heat

Staying alive isnt that difficult. Staying alive with an outdoor job and no ac in the car makes it challanging.

Yes currently my tent vents directly into the lung room. I have 2 fans pointing upward at the light and a large exhaust fan pulling the heat out. When i stand on that side of the tent i can really feel the heat being removed from the tent.

I do 2x4s over the truss with allthread and a big ass washer drilled through. Thats how i did all my celing fans.

I fuck with unistrut for work. I didnt think abou that....putting a few of those on some allthread with strut nuts gives me a shit ton of options for hanging about anything. Very good idea!

Likewise I use it all the time, any useful sized off cuts from site come straight home with me 🤫. I’m in the process of making an adjustable height scrog net frame out of it.

Honestly I think venting your tent preferably outside or if not into your loft will solve your problem as the negative air pressure in your tent will constantly drag in the cool air from the lung room
