Are you using a speed controller? Depending in the motors used some do not play well with potentiometers.

Remove the speed controller if its not part if the unit. Im about 99% certain y your description it is not ok and will cause your motor to burn out prematurely

Nope remote came with intake it was next door that lives under me was cooking burgers and some how came through the ceiling some how but my intake is this one https://growlights.ca/products/8-inch-fan-filter-kit
