Has anyone ever tried to re-create a natural light cycle?

I'm wondering, if rather than instantly switching to 12/12. If you went from 18 to 16 for a few days or a week, then to 14 for the same, then to 12... do you think this would have any measurable impact on the plants flowering? Kind of simulating a more natural switch to a new light cycle?
You could also go 18 to 17, 17 to 16, 16 to 15 etc. over a period of time until you reach 12/12.

18/6 or more is ideal for vegging plants so I think all that would happen is the plant would grow slower.
I've never tried it though so I don't know for sure.

Plants start to flower well before 12/12 happens outside so I don't know how natural it would be on 12/12 anyhow.

Yeah. I mean, what if after a few weeks you slowly started bringing the light down in a more gradual and natural way. I think I will try it out.
