Hi everyone!

We are new friends of THCFarmers and thought this would be a good opportunity to get to know everyone.

We are launching a new type of VPN service in just over a month and have taken up advertising with THCFarmers. To kick things off in just over a month we will be going into open beta - where it will be free for everyone to use. Our VPN works in a different manner to traditional VPN services. We have spent around 2 years developing our system outside of our normal jobs. This is a passion project and the VPN we built is literally the VPN we ourselves wanted to exist.

We are based in Melbourne, however our company is based in Hong Kong for privacy and security reasons ( Australian law sucks when it comes to privacy ). If you would like to learn more about our VPN, please see the following pages;

https://www.oeck.com/features/
https://www.oeck.com/faq/
https://www.oeck.com/manual/
https://www.oeck.com/privacy-policy/

We would absolutely love some feedback on the website and the information found on it. We would also like to get to know everyone! So please feel free to interact with us!

My name is Peter and I am one of the directors. Cameron is the other director. We have worked with each other for over 15 years and now we are close to seeing our hard work come to life.

Please feel free to ask any questions regarding the VPN or anything else you may wish to speak about.

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

Would you mind giving us a quick breakdown of its benefits, specifically over Nordvpn and Expressvpn? Is the streaming content seamless, or does it get hiccups when configuring location?

How does the geo-un-blocking affect search engine results?

Hi @Kanzeon,

Thank you for taking interest in this! I will try to answer your questions as best as I can.

Our VPN tries to almost appear to "not be there". I will list some benefits, and where you can read up about it.

  1. We own all of our own hardware. Servers, routers, you name it. We purchased the physical items and shipped them. Read more here.
  2. Our VPN exit nodes are load balanced. This means you don't need to go server-hunting. Simply pick a region and our system will make sure you connect to the best available server within that region every time.
  3. Our VPN exit nodes do not have any hard drives. All of our exit nodes run off RAM and do not log. You can read a detailed description here.
  4. Our unblocking is automatic. This is something new to the industry. This basically means you can connect to ANY VPN region and it will always unblock streaming services regardless of if they are based in the VPN region or not. We even take this a step further by allowing you to specify which region the streaming services should come from - and you can set this on a per device profile basis! You can read more about that here.
  5. You can have up to 100 device profiles. These are basically sub-vpn accounts. You can read about them here.
  6. You can create your very own filter lists. You get to control the internet the way you like it. You can read about that here.
  7. Our port-forwarding is done in a unique way. You can read about that here.
  8. We offer obfuscation!
  9. You can fine-tune your DNS settings.
  10. ALL of these features work regardless of if you use our apps or a third party OpenVPN client.
  11. We have a killswitch available on our apps.
The features listed from 1 - 7 are unique to Oeck. No other VPN offers this functionality as this is new to the industry. It is an expensive way for us to do it, but it absolutely provides the best customer experience.

P.S - Geo-unblocking does not affect search engine results. The only thing that will affect your results is which region you connect to, as it will display results for that region.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask!

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

That's all actually pretty awesome. At a lower price per month than Nord or Express as well.

How's your linux support? Is there an app with a gui or is it terminal-based?

Hi @Kanzeon,

We offer apps for Ubuntu 16 and Ubuntu 18. However, we will probably also release an app for Fedora as well. Aside from that, we also offer apps for Android, iOS, MacOS and Windows. All of our apps are GUI based.

EDIT: We also supply .ovpn files in case you wish to use your own client.

We also offer full IPv6 support.

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

Whats the story in relation to information retained by your company.

Connection logs in/out
Personal Information
Payment Information

Basically. If I came to you tomorrow with a fully legitimate search warrant that you were forced to comply with, what information about your customers is available to YOU.

Hi @whitexcloud,

Great questions! We love it when people ask the most important questions.

Connection log information can be found at https://www.oeck.com/privacy-policy/

Here is a detailed response though.

In order to avoid abuse of our service we need to limit the amount of connections you have simultaneously. The way we do this is to take a timestamp of your connection time during each session. This connection timestamp is something we do not keep a historical log of. We do not monitor disconnection whatsoever. The best way to show you this is by this example;

You login to our network at 9:00pm and you disconnect at 10:00pm. As soon as you disconnect, we no longer have any knowledge of you logging in whatsoever - this connect timestamp is lost. In other words, at this point, we have no idea if you have used our VPN 1,000,000 times or no times. However, from 9:00pm - 10:00pm (during your active session) we can see that you logged in at 9:00pm - that's all we know. Your ISP will also have this data as they log all of their customers metadata, however - they keep it for years.

The personal information we keep changes depending of how you pay for your account.

Best case scenario ( us knowing the least amount )
We know your username and e-mail address ( assuming you paid cash or crypto for your subscription ).

Worst case scenario ( the maximum we can know about you )
We know your username, e-mail address and a transaction history of your PayPal or Credit Card ( processed by Stripe ). We do not know your credit card details as we do not handle the payment.

In either case, there is nothing of value here as there is nothing PayPal, Stripe or your ISP don't know. This is how all online services work ( all VPNs ).

If we were ever forced to hand over information then that is the maximum we can do. All of which can easily be obtained by your ISP and PayPal/Stripe. There is no need to ask us. There is nothing else we can hand over except the hardware.

The hardware however, due to the way it is setup, gets completely wiped upon loss of power. Even though we don't log anything that can identify a users traffic/behaviour/movement, we have taken this as an extra measure. There are no USB or other ports made available on the servers, there are no hard drives or other storage media. If a VPN server disconnected ( dies, is seized by authorities, etc ) the only thing that happens is the users who were on that server need to reconnect to their VPN again as the tunnel would break. The hardware itself can't do anything as there is no operating system or programs on it. It will literally be a waste of time taking any of our servers.

To get an better understanding of our ethos, please read https://www.oeck.com/about-us/

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask :)

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

Damn. So essentially it seems like you pulled a Richard Hendricks, but with VPN's. That's very impressive.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick post due to some people asking. This is what our port-forwarding looks like. As you can see, it will always work - regardless of which VPN region you are connected to. This takes away the need of having a dedicated IP address.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update. I have made a small video which further helps explain how our features work.
