What do You Fellas have running now?
I have some Blue Mystic going into week 9.
I also took some blue mystic clones and popped a swiss cheese, all Nirvana.
The BM is taking a while to finish up.

I know @fatawa will not agree. I let all the fan leaves fade then juice it another couple days. You should literally be able to just touch fans and they fall off. I have a great article explaining why.

"Is it ready yet?: SpruceZeus's take on marijuana ripeness.
This is by no means meant to be the definitive guide to knowing when to chop your plant, only my views on the subject.

I'm personally of the opinion that 90% of the growers on this site (And probably in general) harvest too early. By letting the plants go a little longer you're ensuring that the've plumped as much as they're going to.
Despite popular opinion to the contrary(and don't fool yourself, the jury is still out on this one) Recent studies have shown ;contrary to what was previously believed, that THC itself (And its predecessor THC-A) are quite guilty of causing the confusion and drowsiness associated with burnout and other cannabinoids (our friend CBN, and a handful of others) to be the catalyst (along with THC) to being 'high' rather than 'baked'
Regardless, whether or not theres any substance to the aforementioned study, its easy to get the high you want.
If you want a soaring 'cerebral' high: Get yourself a tropical sativa that contains a high level of THC-V and grow it until it is ripe.
If you want the narcotic couchlock stone, grow a rugged indica until its ripe.
Notice a pattern of growing it until its ripe? Its a really good rule to live by.
OF course we have to remember that there is more to a good high than just THC. At last count there are at least 66 cannabinoids, and we don't know what most of them do.

Now alot of people will tell you that you should harvest based on the colour of your trichomes. But (again, in my opinion) that is far too simplistic and there are too many variables to make that an effective strategy. I've made that point a million times before and i'm not going to re-hash it here,(maybe just a bit) but rest assured there is more to the picture than just trich colour.

A ripe marijuana plant will be filled in, will have an amber tinge to the buds. The pistils should have browned (or orange-d) off and receded into the buds. The seed bracts should be swollen and the trichomes should be sticking straight out with bulbous ends. Also, because you're coming close to the end of plant's life cycle, the leaves should have yellowed off and started to die.

one of my plants, 3 days before chop-chop.

Another very important (imho) reason to let your plants mature is Terpenoid production. Terpenes are responsible for alot of the complex (And enjoyable) flavours that cannabis produces. Some of the most intense flavours are produced on the "downslope" of cannabis's life cycle. My personal experience with this first came when i was growing GH cheese. One of the plants i harvested at 8 weeks and it tasted pretty nice and had pretty dense buds. The other i grew until about 9 1/2 weeks and it had most amazing, sour, skunky, delicious taste with rock hard buds"

here is a one way to get the right time for harvest: Once you determine that you need to harvest the plant - then give/add 1-2 weeks before harvest . this way insures that you have the correct/or come close to correct harvest time

Hi . Hopefully someone can help or lead me in the right direction.
I am having a hard time seeing if the trichomes on my most advanced plant are clear or milky or a combination. I took some pics with my phone and zoomed them and snapped them . All of these are from a variety of buds on that plant. Is there enough resolution or zoom to see them? Can someone tell me what stage they are a and how long I have. I am hoping its still early but it is what it is. I want to flush my plants 2 weeks before they are ready to harvest and I want to put them in the dark for a couple of days just before chopping.

Thanks in advance

if your "pistal" are 80% amber, then it's a good sign that your plant is ready for harvest . one grower once told me that when you think it'd ready then give your self another week then harvest. as for trichomes when they start to change to amber they do it a the rate of 5% a week

No need to comment on old threads but your flowers are no where near done. You have thick white pistils that have only barely started to turn. You check trichomes directly on the calyx not the leaves and only when most of those pistils have does back and the flowers have expanded.

Thc has peaked when most of the trichs are tall bulbous and cloudy. After that when you see amber/ brown and dented dark leaning over trichs they have degraded into non psychoactive CBN.

And the bud leaves tend to turn early and can be ignored. Look to the calyx trichomes.

And there is no rule on how fast they mature. In my experience growing 100’s of different plants they can be quite different timing.

Hi thanks a lot. Newbie obviously, and I am don't have any guidance from experienced growers other than what I read online and you know what that is like sometimes. So from here I should expect the flowers to expand and the pistils to turn darker colour and then I worry about the trichomes is that pretty much it?

much appreciated

Yes. You can see plenty of flowers that are past your stage all over the site.

Here is a Dinachem flower. I let it go a week or two past this point.

Hi folks
Almost a month ago I posted up some pics of "no where near ready" flowers and got some great advice. I have attached a couple pics off that same plant 28 days later.
I am wondering if these would be a a stage to harvest by Oct 8th? My problem is I will be away Oct 17 thru Oct 25. I could wait until after that but the weather is not great here in the great white north thru that span. Lots of rain and getting cooler; although not quite 0 Celsius. I Ideally would have time to trim (1 day), hang to dry (5 days), and then jar & begin cure. I have 3 plants to do. So should I harvest Oct 8-10 or should I wait till Oct 25. Alternative is to harvest whole plants on Oct 17 and let hang for close to 9 days until I get back. So I guess its about how close are they now and is 9 days to dry whole plants putting them at risk to over dry or mold . I have a room to dry that stays 65-70 degrees F and close to 50 humidity.
