Hello Gromies.

I have a plant, just started 3rd week of veg.

Soil is 70% pro-mix 30% fertilizer / amendments

So far I feed her 32 oz every 3-4 days.

First time trying Organic / Living Soil. Seems to retain alot of water . Everywhere online has a different answer. Usually going with if its dry finger tip in, then its ready for water. But this stays moist ...

Usually, the advice is to water slowly till you see some runoff. It's important not to water too often. The life stage of the plant matters, though. Drying the soil helps promote deep roots, especially during the vegetation stage.

I don't think finger-deep testing is good advice, even though it is somewhat helpful, because it can lead to overwatering. Lifting the pot to get a feel for its weight when dry is probably better.

What size pot and what type of pot are you using?

A vivo sun fabric pot ( square ) . I'm making sure it is not sitting in water.

This time I watered 32oz, so that's about 2lb of water. I could watch and see. ( and next time weigh right before and after ) .

This is my first run with pro-mix hp . Definitely holds water more than Fox Farms. Pros and Cons ...

I switched to promix bx+ and added perlite from fox farm ocean forest/happy frog 50/50 with added perlite and yes i agree promix seems to retain water longer i definitely was over watered and have had a hard time adjusting so a slow start to this grow but finally figuring it out
When I transplant, I'll probably add some Fox Farm to the mix. and more bio-char ...

Yeah Pro-Mix definitely can hold some water. I'm using 1 gallon fabric pots , one feeding ( 18oz ) last 3-4 days.

Depending on plant size I give 10-20% of the pot volume. Watering frequency depends on the situation. Outdoors during summer heat and peak growth then twice a day. Indoors about 3-5 days. But the volume parameter doesn't change.

I weigh my containers empty in the beginning than after watering when runoff starts.
I always know when they are near empty and full.
Been working great. I never water and I can time it perfect for flowering.

That's badass... goes against everything I thought I knew about organics really. That fox farm looks like it has everything you'd need for a healthy grow. The Bud Explosion is synthetic stuff though. You did a synganic grow... nice. works.

I use pro mix hp. Right now growing in 5 gallon fabric plants. Woih this promix I didn't need to add any nutes till like probly 8 weeks in almost. I just gave about 1 gallon of water per plant and didn't water again for 7 days. I'm in around 3rd week of flower now and starting to add water more often . Probly 4 or 5 days. I give nutes every water but a minimal amount.

Thanks for the replies guys!

10% volume of how much soil I have is what I am going for. As well as keeping the soil a little damp up top to keep the microbes happy. ( Im not growing flowers, I'm feeding microbes - Build a soil )

Nice to see all the organic growers chime in!

I'm leaning the same way,

I feed plants gaia greens ( via top feed) , with kelp and worm castings.

But I want to add silicone .... I cannot find any " organic " ways to get silicone into the soil.... Unless you gents do?

From NPKs website "RAW Silica contains 45% Silicon Dioxide which is the highest concentration of silicon dioxide available to the home gardener"

What do you guys think? ( sorry off topic )
