Could be! All I know is, it didn’t have any negative effect on the product! But myself and the guy I was going to give it to had negative effects on our heartbeat!

My question is this... At what point of the grow or drying phase does the taste start to come out of the flowers?
The role of chlorophyll could be a factor regarding flavor. I recall reading recently that chlorophyll can reduce flavor, and it has been used for this purpose in cooking. If the opposite is true, that reducing chlorophyll increases flavor, then it could help explain favorable reports about aged weed, presuming aging diminishes or deactivates chlorophyll. I always dry and cure my bud in the dark, thinking it deactivates the chlorophyll, and everyone seems to like the flavor. It's not the only thing I do, though.

I have taken the ring around the top of the jar off of some that I’ve been sitting around for a year, and went to remove the seal, and it blew about 2 feet into the air! I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but the weed was good and smelled good and smoked good! Probably Jarred it up maybe a little early!
I have had this too, I guessed I stopped burping a little to early, the weed was great though.
Now that I use the groove bags, curing is so much easier. I get it down to about 60 then heat seal. I am making up a few 1 oz bags to test every 6 months. Just to see if I can find and ideal window with the bags

The dispensary leave em for 6 month and after a one year or one an half the terps will degrade.

Hey Top,

If you’re growing in soil I wouldn’t use RO. Sort of a waste of money. Get the tap water tested. I doubt whatever you’re smelling in the tap water is going into the soil up the plant affecting the final aroma of a bud. Flushing prior to harvest is another waste of RO. It does nothing.

So why is my bud not blowing me over with wonderful scents?
There are many environmental factors to consider: growing season (really hot or normal or really wet one), plant genetics, soil quality, harvest timing (critical) and curing.

Good luck. How do you like living in Thailand? Is weed legal there?

Zill.
I did have a heat issue near the end which probably reduced some of the smell but it still has a decent enough aroma, it's more the actually taste that I'm concerned with. Even back in England, growing weed in winter I had amazing smelling buds but no 'terp flavour'. Maybe I'm just not curing for long enough, I'll get this lot in the bags/wine fridge and leave it for a few weeks. Hopefully that will bring out some taste.

I've been coming here for 6-7 years and moved here last year after the legalization. It's certainly different to being on holiday here with a pocket full of cash every day, but I'm doing alright. Just need to get this weed business off the ground! Yeah, been legal here since June 2022.

certain strains no matter what is done to them they will have a bland flavour / taste. you need to find something with the terps in that your searching for and keep that. different sorts of nutrients can also effect the over all taste / terp content.
I've read that somewhere, probably on here. If that's true, then It would make a lot of sense.

Are you thoroughly checking trichomes at the end and not harvesting too early...

I agree with with @Zill about ro water... tap is fine... also i would try not flushing at all.... if that makes ua nervous... just keep feeding 1 plant until chop down and see if you notice any differences...
To be clear, the tap water doesn;t smell. It's not for drinking though and I'm not overly keen on showering in it, but for now it is what it is. Like I said, very high ppm and seemingly fuck all else in it as the plants cry without calmag. So I'm wondering what is in it to raise the ppm, it leaves a yellow residue in my humidifier as well so definitely not clean. Seriously, tap water here is notoriously bad, I'd feel much better which a RO system.

Maybe! And I’ll bet it’s tricky to dry in a place where the temperature averages 85° never goes below 75. And the humidity probably averages 90%! or grow in for that matter! Would be nice to see the pictures of the plants they are talking

It's challenging, to say the least. Luckily my home has 4 AC units, but the room I had everything setup in is getting battered by the heat right now and it will get worse going into March/April. I have the tent in my living room at the moment with the weed drying in another room, when that's done I'll move everything into there as it's at the back of the house away from the sun. Still gets hot AF without the AC running 24/7 though.

There's some amazing weed/growers here, the best results are coming out of warehouse facilities similar to what you see in Cali.

Terpenes make weed smell like terpenes, not weed. They also taste like shit, not weed.

OP is lying, because this is total nonsense. Cannabis requires oxygen to cure.

You can figure if it's on a pot forum and it's longer than 2 sentences it's probably AI posted by one of those Future Cannabis Project retards. Internet pot retards usually keep it short unless they are trying to come up with some chat gpt breeding gnostism. Chat gpt is like the legal era internet stoner God.

Legal era internet retards: "Weed smells like all these things it doesn't smell like. But how do I grow weed that tastes good. "

Impossible to have this conversation. The retards will blame literally anything then claim Cat Piss smells like mold and Skunk smells like a pair of shoes.
It was in a glass jar, not 100% sealed. OP isn't lying, you are just making assumptions.

Hey Top,

One last question. Yukky water got that. You mention a residue. Are you in a high Sulphur area? But you did mention no odor.

Instead of RO water maybe you can remove some of those contaminants by passing through a bucket filled with peat moss. Not quite the surface area of charcoal but it will bind impurities. Spent soil would work.

This always seems to be a difficult topic to discuss. I suspect it's because there are so many factors that can affect taste and smell (and there are so many opinions). Breaking it down into subtopics is probably the best way to approach it. Those subtopics include strain, nutrient timing, harvest timing, the effect of chlorophyl, drying method, curing method, storage method, etc. (I think I listed most factors, but probably not all.)
This is how I've approached it tbh, but results were in conclusive due to everything being new here. I've tried to keep everything as close to how it was in England but it's juts not doable so I've had to make changes.

I suppose a more simple way of asking the question would be, what is more important: the last two weeks of the grow cycle/harvest or the drying/curing stage when it comes to the flavour aspect. But your'e right, 101 different factors and everyone will give you different answers based on their personal experience.

I've been growing for almost 3 years now and I've never produced bad weed, in fact it has all been well above average. It smokes nice, good effects and not harsh one bit. The smell is always on point, but for some reason I can't bring out the taste of the terps. It doesn't taste bad, I must stress that. 80-90% of the weed I've ever smoked doesn't have that kind of flavour, but I know there's weed out there that when smoked you can taste the orange, lemon, Z or whatever. To be fair, I don't smoke top shelf dispensary weed evey day though so maybe that's why I don't see it often.

I come from England but now I'm living in Thailand. I had to start off small and because of that, I didn't have the money to buy everything I wanted. I've had to use the tap water which I've learned is full of 'something', all I know is the ppm is around 260 and there's no calcium or magnesium in it. I have to run calmag with every feed. RO water is available here from machines nearby but not easy to carry 5 gallons in 35-36°c heat with without transport.

Regardless, I'm going to start using the RO water as when tested the ppm was around 20 I think. I grow in soil and the stuff I've just taken down got 3 feeds with water only after tapering down the nutrients, the last one was with the RO water and it has no taste up to now. It's into day 17 of drying and its not done yet as I do it low and slow, hung as whole plants with large fans removed. Most growers here have recommended 3 weeks to me, after that it will be going into Grove bags, heat sealed and stored in my new wine fridge for a few weeks. Tried some today and unfortunately it's burning quite dark. Not black, but like a darkish grey colour. No harshness or bad taste as mentioned above. There's still some excess moisture in it but I think it could also be down to whatever is in the water. I should have tested the water a lot sooner, I hold my hands up to that dumbass mistake.

My question is this... At what point of the grow or drying phase does the taste start to come out of the flowers? I've had flower that literally coated my mouth with flavour, and then I've had buds that smelled amazing and tasted like burned flowers. I can't seem to get this part right, definitely switching to RO water and flushing harder next time which should fix the ash colour, a minor issue in my books, but I need to know what it causing my weed to have no translation of the terpenes. I want to make a legitimate business out of this here and getting my weed to taste right will make it stand out from 90% of the stuff here.

The only time my weed has had 'terp flavour' was when it was left in a jar at very low temperatures for 3 months without being opened (I was on holiday). The house had no heating on so temps were probably around 10-12°c. There must be a way of doing this quicker though as I bought some Gypsy Soap here not long ago that clearly wasn't cured for long but was the most flavoursome weed I've ever tasted, the flavour was still noticeable a few minutes after having a bong. In 20 years of smoking this plant I've never experienced flavour like that and since then, I've been obsessed with trying to figure this out.
Once bought some weed somewhere where they usually only have mids and im telling you the lemon smell and the sweet sour notes was just exploding in my mouth so crazy but good questions

What temps are you roughly drying in... does your stuff dry relatively quick???

Nah it's not sulphur, I actually did get some residue back in England but nowhere near as much as this. It's made me want to use RO water in the humidifier as well, may seem a bit extreme but I'm trying to produce medical grade cannabis and would rather leave no stone unturned.

And although that sounds like a good idea, it's a lot of extra work. Is there a reason that RO water would be bad when used in soil?

There's water filter shops everywhere here which further raises my suspicion about the taop water. Funds are a little tight at the moment but there are RO machines on the streets here, you just need to take your own bottles.

I can get the rtoom down to 16-18 (celcius) during the night but for the last week or so it has been reaching 22-23 later ij the afternoon when it's like 36 outisde. I'm into day 19 now and it's still not dry, RH is always between 58-62%

The higher temperatures causes terpenes to degrade about 15-16 C is perfect with a humidity around 50-60rH
Allows for a slow dry and gets rid of that hay smell 👃

Yeah man, I've had a few strains here that have been like that. The Gypsey Soap I had was insane, proper creamy gassy gelato taste that was still there minutes later. It may be strain/phenotype dependent though like someone else said, which would explain why it's somewhat rare unless you're buying top shelf, branded flowers.

Yeah, I do try to keep it below 18 but it'svery difficult here. The heat is 100% the biggest problem for growers here, the wine fridge I've just bought will be a life saver when it comes to long term storage. It can be set between 16-18
