Not a bad idea, though you could just use the bucket and an ultra sonic fogger. All items are cheap for the build.

I have plans for a fogger system for full sized plants that i will post up on the farm one day.

Great find though, if someone does the build post and let us know.

I tried making something almost exactly like that a long time ago.
The problems I ran in to are:

1. The nute solution has a corrosive/scaling buildup effect on the transducer causing to eventually stop working. Lots of cleaning and descaling is required.
2. The nute solution has to be stronger when in liquid form in order to be strong enough when atomized. As the fog hits the container walls and condenses, it turns back into overly strong liquid solution that you dont want your roots to touch. BUT, you need the roots to partially rely on liquid solution. A large plant will be challenged to get everything it needs from fog alone. So it becomes a combination hydro/ aero setup. Some roots will develop into "hydro style" staying submersed in liquid solution, and other roots will develop into fuzzy "aero style" that are suspended in fog. It seems that 2 separate solutions are needed - one for being atomized and one for the hydro portion.
That was the stumbling point for me.

I will say that it worked long enough to produce the most awesome root porn I ever saw. Bright white and LOTS of white hairs - no hydro system alone is capable of producing root hairs like that.

It has the potential to be the ultimate growing system. Maybe some kind of computer control device to manage the fog/liquid division could make it practical.

This idea has been around since the early '90s yet I have yet to see a commercial application come out of it. I have since lost my fascination with high tech and am content now with dirt. Its slower but so much more stable.

That's pretty innovative, but I totally appreciate what lead is saying about nute scaling. I've been trying out the same kind of a deal with an ultrasonic pond fogger in this thread growing Sub's 3D. Definitely a learning experience, few probs, but definite potential. I'm also a relative nub when it comes to farming, so probably more effective in a more experienced farmers hands.

I really do not suggest doing this I can see many issues in this system please don't take my comments as insults my intent is to be helpful .
The nutrient build up is 1 issue humidity and bud and even root rot are big issues also .
Hydroponic foggers were invented in Israel in about 1995 they used them in greenhouse production of tomato's and lettuce maybe other produce the reason for the invention was that they were growing in the desert where water was scarce .
The systems had issues at that time I was working for the dept. of soil science agriculture canada I had the fortune of meeting a leading expert from Israel who was filling me in on the research they were conducting and the issues they were running into .
I have a feeling that this system might be less problematic is a super dry area like a desert however in the desert if they had power failure the plants were dead pretty fast .
