You need to understand fully how to use UVB light, they come in different percentages, the T8 and T5 comes in 14% if I can remember correctly, the natural sunlight is only 5%You gotta be super careful with UVb as it will fry your eyes and plants. I ran mine for 15 minutes at a time a couple times a day about 5 feet above the plants during the first few weeks of flower. One day I forgot and left it on for 4ish hours and youd think I fed my plants straight fertilizer for a week, everything was burnt to a crisp.
The risk isn't worth the reward imho. Plants that didn't get burned just looked normal. I couldn't tell if there was a boost in tricromes or not. BUT I want to add my CMH adds UVb so that's conflicting. Maybe if the CMH didn't already add UVb I'd see a difference?
UVc is what you put in your ducts. The bulb should ALWAYS be protected and shielded from eyes, that's why they're always hidden. Everyone should rock a UVc in their grow room. I use a GermGuardian.
I appreciate for your feedback! I think I will leave UVB alone, thanks. You need to understand fully how to use UVB light, they come in different percentages, the T8 and T5 comes in 14% if I can remember correctly, the natural sunlight is only 5%so even at a distance of 5 foot and your calculated distance for an UV index of 5 or 7 with your bulb, the UVB light will still be too strong and put out a higher mW/cm2 which translates to a higher energy, mJ/cm2 on the plant, you need to research it properly and do the math, otherwise don't bother with UVB lights it's not for the inexperienced looking for benefits and not knowing how to use them, you won't get the added thc and trichomes you're fine with just managing temperatures and lighting, UVB lighting is very complex, it's for advanced experienced growers and botanist who take up the research and calculations on a medical level, not intermediate or for the purpose of supplementing, UVB lighting is very complex and in depth, but not necessary, managing temperatures and lighting is perfectly fine, you still get the exact same strong bud, with UVB there is little to gain, but most notable is gains in flavour and THC and if done correctly buds should be sticky to the touch when trimming after harvest
