If you have any questions just ask!

Managed to be lucky enough to get my hands on this intralight for beta testing. Thought some of you on here may find this interesting. Here is some info on the light, IntraLight is effective on small soft-bodied insects including spider mites, russet mites, thrips, aphids, and more. The IntraLight pesticidal spectrum targets the DNA of pests and pathogens while leaving crops unharmed. This DNA damage impairs pests’ ability to reproduce, hatch and grow. As DNA damage spreads within a pest population, the DNA damage of IntraLight technology keeps pest populations at bay.

If you want more information here is the website https://intralight.co/

Let me know what you think and how well you think it will work. I’ll be running mine throughout my current grow.

I’m surprised no one on here is interested in this… a first hand look at a product that you can only pre order right now. A passive ipm management where you prevent pest molds and more with just a 1-5 minute light treatment every night.

I'm scared. I really hope it works for you and causes no damage to plants or people.

I was not aware that they have come up with a stable UVC LED that does not burn out in 5 minutes of use.

I think most growers don't even have it on their radar. I know I'm super interested to see; but I'd be more interested to try it on some petri dishes or in a mycological application.
This grower has no place in a grow for UVC personally if it was free. But I never discourage experimentation if you got the itch.

I do wonder if there would be an effect on the plants. I was concerned about it effecting photo period plants but was told by the company it won’t effect it because the light gives off less light than a crescent moon. It’s also only ran at 1 minute intervals every 24 hours best after 4 hours of dark, which doesn’t seem like a whole lot of time but they say it is enough to effect the dna of soft body pests.

I had no idea about uvc and what it’s possibilities are until I came across this product. It seems super interesting. I’m sure the company has done testing of some sort but I don’t find it published anywhere yet. Possibly because it’s proprietary but I’m not sure. I may send a message and see if they have any data available.

What do you currently use for ipm management? I’m glad you chimed in moe, I really respect your opinion. I think they are really gearing towards organic companies which may explain the price tag, it is a bit steep but I figure over time I would spend that on other ipm products. The biggest thing that got me would be the prevention of an outbreak and not just being reactive.

And plants?

Do you have a pest problem? If this kills spider mites that would be interesting.
I’m not sure if the pant is effected by it, I do know ladybugs are not effected by the light. It is supposed to kill spider mites as well. I normally don’t have a pest issue other than I do get gnats just about every run.

I will ask Intralight if they know the effects on plant dna. Any questions I don’t know or can’t find I’ll bring up to them and reciprocate there answer on here.

Are you in dirt?

So you will know it's working if you don't get gnats. You got a safety system for your eyeballs?

No I run coco. That’s what I’m gonna use for my base, seems to never fail and end up with gnats so if I get none this run I would say it worked. Multiple runs would obviously be more conclusive but I’m not sure if I’ll get to keep the light or not at the end of 12 months. They say to not be present in the room when doing your light treatment, I did check to make sure they all worked and then just plugged it into a timer. The instructions say it’s best to do light treatment 4 hours after lights out so I doubt I’ll ever be in there when it’s running.

i disnt want to rain in a parade either… i feel like gnats will fin thier way in other than top soil… drainholes etc. UVC and plants is not for me but interested to see.

UVC will absolutely damage plant dna also. If they say otherwise they lie. Damage is in the dose and id assume (not presenting as a fact) that if it will kill pests it will damage plants. Much like ozone… its hard to use effectively at safe levels.

Alternative id suggest is.

completely safe and you want to use from start to finish… do not wait for an infestation. It kills many species of larvae including gnats

I sent them a message asking for info about the UVC and plant DNA so it will be interesting to see what they say. Why such hesitation with UVC? I would imagine that’s why you only run the light for 1-5 minutes every 24 hours.

Well intensity and time determine dose… UVC is usually a fluorescent tubes… they produce UVC the most cost efficiently. If infact those are producing UVC i can say a UVC tube can kill plant tissue in seconds at close range. These tubes are used in hospital wards that generally are immune compromised like chemo patients.

I would do a little reading on UVC if i was you. But i find the 60 sec time on must be extremely low intensity of UVC which makes sense because LED is extremely poor for production of UVC and very expensive

I do know it can be dangerous to humans and the company dose say to not be in the room when doing light treatment. I guess it’s only logical to assume it is dangerous to plants as well. I’m thinking the dose will be low but I don’t know enough about it to say if the plant will be effected to the point of yield loss.
